Plugged in 4 lights, ran the driver install, ran the software install, lights come on. Running Win7 x64 Works with most games. It seemed gimmicky when looking at them online, but using them in person makes games/tv/movie much more immersive. For all the people that say this doesn't work, install the drivers, and install AmbiBox. AmbiBox is LED light control for a multitude of devices, including the Mad Catz amBX. I use it for games that don't work with the vendor software.

Really wanted to like this product...
...and despite spending three hours getting the first pair of lights to work, I was so impressed with the effect I bought another pair the next day. Got the second pair 8/18, one of the new lights stopped working 8/20, and I got it to work again by unplugging everything and reinstalling the software. Worked for two days and now the light is dead again and nothing seems to get it working.I feel like an idiot now--$200 for three working glorified light bulbs and one unwieldy paperweight. The instruction booklet tells you if it doesn't work at first, restart the service manually--this actually didn't work for me because the service hadn't even started, and trying to start it caused an error message saying it couldn't start--and I should have seen that as a sign of a terrible quality product. Can you imagine buying a car that you have to open the hood to get it to start the first time? Or a light bulb you have to replace the filament on before it lights up? Despite all that, I spent three hours trying different USB ports, trying to open the Ambx control panel (which hung every time), and finally got them to work by...I'm really not sure. As far as I can tell, the difference between when they weren't working and started working is one additional uninstall and download of the software updates, after two previous attempts at this.As previous posters have noted, Madcatz "support" refers you to a forum on Ambx web site that you have to register to even read. Someone else had my exact same problem, and Ambx told them it was a hardware issue and they needed to contact Madcatz for an RMA. Nice to see these two companies working so closely together to see their new technology take off.EDIT 08/29/2015: Mad Catz web page no longer even has drivers for this device, even though they still sell it on their store. Lowering rating as low as possible and never buying a Mad Catz product again--they are still selling products they don't even support.

Absolute waste of money!
Im not going to be a moron and insult people who say they cant get them to work. All i know is this after 3 hours and a phone call to USELESS cyborg support the light finally came on after half a dozen reinstalls, usb port switches and software reinstalls. Then i tried 6 gamesDiablo 3 using RTS mode, RIFT using roleplaying mode, oblivion using roleplaying mode, the secret world using roleplaying mode, Defiance using RTS mode and LOTRO using roleplaying mode..... these are all preloaded modes and i let myself get attacked and attacked in each game, i shot lots of times and guess what happened???? NOTHING!!! NOT A DARN THING!!!!!!! literally the light are stuck on one color and do not even respond to the illuminate software that is running. No wonder why the product tanked. If you are an actual gamer that does not want to spend the hours and hours and hours it must take to custom configure these then please do not buy them. People may say how great they work and i am stupid for not knowing how to get them to work... well i am genuinely happy they worked for you but i am neither an idiot or a tech noob and i could not get them to work. I will be returning them.

It works. but not with all softwares/games
an awesome addition if it worked without any glitches. First off I am using a win7 X64 system. After installing the drivers and program to run the lights. some of my RAT9 and Saitek Pro 52 flight system drivers got deleted. secondly the lights did not function.after much advice from the support team. I was able to get it running. only witht eh drivers provided by the CD along with the lights.some games still don't work with the lighting system. It works fine with softwares like VLC media Player. and Steam games. but Origin games most of the FPS ones don't work. (Black Screen while game runs).for the amount I don't think it's worth adding it to my rig.

Great for immersion.
These lights are great for immersion! I play many different genres of video games, whether they be an RPG or an FPS, they respond quickly and accurately and make for great experience. I have a full theatre surround sound system on my computer, 3 monitors and 2 of these pods, and it is one of the best setups I have seen. I always have comments from friends and family when watching a movie about how they make such an amazing experience. The bad side of these lights is they are a little more expensive units, they are hungry, requiring 2 usb ports, and I have even tried putting them on a usb hub, they don't seem to like it as much as being plugged in directly. The software that comes with them is easy to use, but can be a bit buggy at times to say the least. Once you have started a game or application a couple times, the software will detect it and add it to a list from where you can configure the profile.I have also had to go in and manually restart the services countless times because the software will occasionally freak out and the lights won't come on. Usually after restarting the ambx saitek hal service, they will come back on and work flawlessly. If they werent such an expensive set, I'd order another and put them in line to have a total of 4 lights running for complete immersion. Otherwise they are great system, if the software was developed to be a little tighter and the price came down, I'd give them a full 5 stars.
