Great value! One of the best $30 I have spent for my kitchen.
This is really hard to beat. I had been looking for a second knife block to put all my oddball knives in. My Wusthof block didn't have enough extra slots for my extra stuff. So I looked. And looked. And looked. And couldn't bring myself to spend $100 on blocks that had so-so reviews, quality issues, etc. So I waited. And looked some more. I am REALLY picky about things, especially my kitchen gear. A wobbly, poorly made knife block would put me over the edge. Finally I stumbled on this one. $30. Good reviews. I took my shot. I am not sorry. This was $30 well-spent. I gave this 5 stars because: - Quality is very good. - Especially for $30! - Lots of slots, and they are deep. You can get most anything in there, with a couple of exceptions. You probably aren't going to jam a cleaver in there, unless it is small. Ditto for something like your 14" carving knife. But pretty much anything else will fit in there. The wide slots are great. - Doesn't take up a ridiculous amount of counter space. It holds a lot but isn't much bigger than my Wusthof block that came with my set. The only thing I don't like is that some of the slots are a little too wide, in terms of blade thickness, and some of my finer bladed knives slop around a little bit. I would like a little more clean fit. But, did I mention this was only $30? Minor thing, and not worth a star off. It's meant to be universal. Super glad I took a chance on this one. I really dislike buying this kind of thing without being able to see it firsthand. I was not disappointed. This is a GREAT value.

High capacity, high quality knife block.
This block accommodates my entire complement of knives. I have several large chef’s knives and serrated knives that did not fit in the slots on my old block, so it’s nice to have all of my knives and poultry shears out of the drawers where I was storing them and in one convenient, attractive, easy to access holder.

Medium-quality block with versatile storage. Exceptional value.
Real nice! I had purchased a Henckels knife block but almost all of the slots were too narrow to hold full-width knives (I own a kiritsuke, chef knife, santoku and nakiri) so I had to return it. This Shenzhen block, on the other hand, fits full-sized knives in almost all of the slots. Additionally the slots are flared at the top which helps to slip knives in a bit more easily. The angle of this knife block is significantly lower (more horizontal/less vertical) than most blocks which means it consumes significantly more counter space. On the other hand it works better under a low cabinet than a more-vertical block would. It could probably stand to be spaced a little more between slots vertically: full-size knife handles (like Shun) will rub up against each other if you don't alternate knife slots or alternate handle directions. I loaded paring knives in the bottom slots. It was a nice bonus to get those out of the drawer. If you put scissors in that middle slot, their handles will block the slots to the left and the right; you'll have to choose between the slots and the scissors. Quality-wise this block is mediocre. The outer edges aren't glued perfectly (there's a gap) and the interior wood quality (plus the carving quality) is on the low side. Still - being able to store and protect all my knives for under $30 is a great deal. I have a 12-inch honing rod and if you do also, get the larger version of this block and not the smaller one.

Mostly Awesome
There seems to be some sort of coating applied to the outside of the knife block. I am also allergic to Murphy's Oil Soap. Not a big deal for me and no one's fault - just be cautious if you have that kind of allergy. I am going to try to wash it off. I do love that I finally found an expensive way to store my knives. I have several different brands of knives, and that top slot fits the Faberware Cleaver. The knife handles are too close together in that there is not enough horizontal space on some of the thicker handles. Not a big deal, I just have to be careful removing a knife. It is just nice to have a bunch of slots that are wide enough to store my knives. Another thing is that if you have a very long knife like a 12” Granton slicer, it will stick out. For me, it was not one of the knives I intended to keep in there - again, not a big deal. I would be interested in one with the changes I mentioned with a few more knife slots. It is an eclectic combination of knives and that makes it easy to find. White handles, black handles and different shapes make it easy to find what I am looking for. A matched set looks nice on the outside, but having to pull out several knives to find the one I want is tedious. Bamboo is sustainable which is nice and helps with the price. Overall, it is a nice way to organize my knives. One more thing - I would like to see a washable cover to cover everything when all of my knives are installed. A clear plexi-glass box would be nice. I am considering finding an appropriate size aquarium that I could invert to cover the knives - sounds like a fishy idea.

My *favorite* knife block, and I have several.
I LOVE this knife block! I have tons a kitchen knives and numerous blocks, but this one is by far my favorite. It looks ok (not the most attractive, but not the least either), but the functionality is great! Most block designs assume you have one chef knife and then several skinny knives and that's it. What about if you have a chef knife, a santoku, a larger or smaller secondary chef knife, etc? This block lets me store multiple chefs knives, santokus, and even a nakiri in it no problem. The large slots are also larger and easier to get in and out of than other blocks, likely with less dulling of the knives two since there is less contact while sliding. The steak knife slots, conversely, are a little narrower than on many blocks, and might give people some trouble. I can get my "skinny" steak knives in them, but not my set of "fat" ones. There were some splinters inside of the slots, which aggravated me at first. I gave the block and good cleaning when I got it and spray some water into the slots before drying throughly, and it seems to have helped with the splinters some. Still, I don't really think those will be a problem, and sliding knives in and out will probably eventually get rid of them. The block, even the smaller one is somewhat large, so make sure to measure carefully. But if you have a knife set with multiple large knives, this is the way to go!

Great multi knife block
The amount of knife slots are phenomenal. Holds all my knives and more. Scissor slot and honing steel slots also. I’ve had it for 4 1/2 years. Still looks like new

Love it!
Just about perfect. Only wish the steak knife slots were slightly wider. It's sturdy, well made, and much more cost effective that many other options!

Great knife block
Great product. It replaced a much wider unit taking up considerable counter space. The old block had a universal top that allowed knives to fall out. The Shenzhen is narrower, has slots, and has room for all my knives and a steel.
