Question 1

The specs say: (Does not Convert Voltage) How do I know if I need a converter, or if this adapter will work for me? I'm going from USA to Cyprus.

Accepted Answer

It appears that Cyprus may very well use 230V / 50 Hz as their household, standard AC current. And that they use the same type plugs (Type G?) that the UK uses. I got this info from http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Which_electricity_plug_in_Cyprus Now, the question of whether you need a converter or not is a separate question. Many devices these days are "universal" in that their power supply circuits (whether built in to the device or a separate "wall wart" adapter) can operate off of an INPUT voltage of anywhere from 100V (volts) to 240V (volts). There should be a label on the device or on its power supply and you will be looking for what is listed as the INPUT VOLTAGE. If it says 110V / 60Hz, then it will only operate if it is fed 110V. Inputting 230V into it would burn it up quickly. If that is the case, then you do need a converter to step down the 230V to the 110 that your device needs. If, on the other hand, your device's INPUT VOLTAGE (or INPUT AC) rating is something like "100-240V 50/60Hz" then it should operate with just the proper adapter plug, with no voltage conversion necessary. This plug adapter does not do voltage conversion; it simply adapts the configuration of the standard US 3-prong plug to that which is used in the UK (and apparently Cyprus, too). Conveniently, it also will accept an additional 2-prong plug as well at the same time, thus it is like a multi-tap outlet. Hope this helps

Question 2

Will this work to charge a smart phone and or pre-paid phone in Ireland/Dublin?

Accepted Answer

The OREI will allow you to plug your phone charger unit into the socket provided by the power distribution system in Ireland. You have to look carefully at your phone charging unit to see if it allows for 100 - 240 VAC at 50 - 60 Hz. If not you will need a voltage converter to convert the 220 VAC in Ireland to 110-120 VAC. Most of the better hotels in Ireland provide a 110 VAC outlet near the work station area.

Question 3

Does it work in Northern Ireland?

Accepted Answer

I used it all over Ireland last September. One night in Belfast and 2 in Derry, another 10 days various Southern Ireland. Worked well in all places. Nice feature was you can unplug an existing lamp, plug in adapter then plug lamp into front while using the top for your device. Or plug 2 of your devices in.

Question 4

I'm traveling from the US to Kenya this summer. Does this work for a US electronic power converter in Kenya??

Accepted Answer

This device is a plug adapter only. It does not convert power. If Kenya supplies 110-120v power to its citizens, then you needn't be concerned about voltage conversion for U.S. devices you may bring with you. You will, however, have to be concerned with plug configuration. This item allowed me to connect my U.S. devices to the wall connection in Ireland when I traveled there. Still I needed a voltage converter to step their 220-240v down to the 120v I needed.
