Review: Sometimes it's the little things... unbelievably this works. - So this technology is not odd, nor unobtainable. What's odd is the price point... which is probably about what an empty box shipped next day would cost. Here's my set up: I have a 1080P 3D projector in the basement along with a 120" screen, a nice receiver and an 8 channel setup. No one in my family will go down there... because it's the basement. We have a nice, finished, relatively comfortable, dry basement. In the summer it stays cool; in the winter it stays warm. I guess it's still a basement. Whatever. So I wasted tons of money on a home theater that no one uses... welcome to fatherhood... but there is a solution. Everyone loves our back yard, and so eventually movies in the backyard became a thing. Actually, I think, backyard movies became a thing because it is incredibly difficult to set up, nothing ever works, and I'm the only one who knows how to put it all together. I can bring the Apple tv outside and connect it to the projector, but the audio needs to go back down to the basement, as our backyard speakers are connected to Zone 2 of the home theater receiver. I can leave everything plugged into the receiver and run an HDMI cable across the basement, out the window, across the yard, to the very expensive projector. No one will trip over a 75' HDMI or a 50' extension cord when running around the yard, right? Everything works without a hitch over long cables, right? So further in the backyard is our garden area.... I'm getting to the review, hold on a minute. This area is lit with smart bulbs and has a somewhat complex smart system running various aspects of our koi ponds. This area, without going into detail, is wired for power, audio, ethernet and a few different smart hubs. I ran a backup unused ethernet cable in one of the conduits when I installed all this, and our main distribution switch is directly next to the projector in the basement. HDMI is already run from the receiver to where the projector is. I purchased this HDMI to ethernet set fully thinking this wasn't going to work. I plugged the HDMI out from my receiver to the sending unit along with the end of the spare ethernet cable. The other end of that ethernet cable goes across the basement, outside, and 70 feet across the yard to a waterproof box in our garden. Total run of ethernet is about 100', and it's 5e, not the recommended Cat6. This gave me an ethernet outlet about 6 feet from where my projector needs to be for a 120" screen using rear projection (so no one trips over the cables). I plugged everything in, and my mind started taking bets on how exactly this device would fail. The only thing that would have surprised me was success. I was surprised. Everything worked. 1080P 3D, 5.1 audio (verified on my basement receiver), stereo PCM, and HDMI-CEC. I didn't test any advanced audio modes like True HD because my outdoor theater can't really use that. I have now used this for about a month and have watched quite a few movies with this setup. I can't quite speak for the longevity yet, but if it breaks I will buy another one. I can now set up an outdoor theater in about 20 minutes when it once took a couple hours. These magic boxes work and save me time, money, and frustration... and now we're watching more outdoor movies.
Review: High-quality HDMI extension - Update: 5/13/25 After about 1 month in use, one of these has failed. I can't seem to find how to contact anyone with the company to utilize the warranty. It's nice to offer a 1 year warranty, however, when you can't actually contact anyone to claim the warranty, it doesn't do any good. I used 2 of these in a client's building. I used a different extender to transmit HDMI and USB over the ethernet cable from the front room to a back room. I then used a powered HDMI splitter to split that HDMI output to three screens, one via direct HDMI cable, and two with these. I've never had luck with HDMI cables over 25' long, so I like to use these extenders. These worked flawlessly for my client, and it allows the display and audio to extend much further than a regular HDMI cable, and it's super easy to run the ethernet cable as needed.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do you have connect the two points directly or can the cable go through switches?**
A: It's not actually Ethernet, rather, it's a specific protocol for this purpose so it can't go through a switch. However, you should be able to simply patch the cables together and bypass the switch.

**Q: Does this need 1 continuous ethernet cable? i have my house wired with ethernet and i connected a cable to the wall with the unit and the other end**
A: Yes, 1 single continuous cable is required. This is specified in the product description: "Long distance - Connect single Cat6 cables up to 196ft instead of HDMI cable between TX and RX Extender" There cannot be any network switches in the path. This is not an IP-based solution that can be used over a network. if you want something that can run over a network, i.e. routed through switches, look at Dante AV products that are designed to transmit video over IP networks, just be prepared to pay a few thousand dollars.

**Q: Can you use a USB cable to power the receiver unit?**
A: It doesnt have direct support for usb power, but it doesn't draw a lot of power and 2 amp usb power should be plenty

**Q: Can a hdmi splitter like the orei 4k 1x4 hdmi splitter duplicater be used at the display end of the extender for connecting multiple tv's?**
A: I haven't done so myself because I used the transmitter(input) unit on only one of the outputs from a 1-4 hdmi splitter because I only had one tv located at an extreme distance. It would probably work, with your connection, as the transmitter/receiver units are both powered and I notice the signal from the receiver (output) unit appears strong.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ High-quality HDMI extension

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Security Cameras – From Closet to Office
*by C***S on April 13, 2022*

After spending $3,000+ on a home surveillance system, I was forced to view the cameras from inside my son's cramped closet. It's the one thing I didn't consider - the monitor needed a direct connection to the base unit to view the video. So there I was, sitting in the closet, Indian style, on the carpet floor, reviewing footage. I felt like an idiot. I set the entire system up, wired it, but never considered how to view it from my office. What am I going to do now? There is no way to fix it. I couldn't rip out all the wiring and transfer it to my office. No way! I wasn't going to do that. I tried different solutions - wireless HDMI, HDMI extension cables - none of them solved the problem. When I came across HDMI repeater, I thought, "No way this would work. A $29 solution. That won't work." But I decided to try it. What do I have to lose? I hit the "Buy Now" button and two days later the package arrived. I grabbed my cat 6 wire, connected it to the repeater, plugged the other end into the security camera and monitor...and boom, it worked! I couldn't believe it. It actually worked. The unit was in the closet, and I was 75 feet away watching a streaming view. Amazing! From there, I wired the Ethernet cable from my son's closet, through the attic, down the office wall, and to my monitor. As I'm typing this, I can see on my monitor an Amazon courier pull-up to my house to drop off another package. Before I go downstairs to grab the package, I'll leave you with this...buy this product if you need to run an HDMI cable over a long distance. It totally works.
