I never had liked the Vellux blankets because I did not find them very conforming. That being said, I found this blanket to be very comfortable and plush. initial washing went well - no deterioration, shredding or damage.

This Vellux Original blanket is the same model that I remember using in my youth. I still love the softness and subtle structure of the blanket. It is lightweight and provides a medium amount of warmth. I use it layered between my bedspread and top sheet.

Bought this blanket to use when camping out on the sofa looking at movies and ended up using full time on my king-size bed instead. It is super plush and warm to say it is so light weight and is listed as a King size throw. It didn't shed after several washings and still has the same intensity of color as when bought. If you are looking for a light weight year round comfortable throw / blanket that fits nicely on your bed and as a throw this one is well worth it. Definitely would buy again.

I needed new bedding for our new king-size bed (upgraded from queen) and was very excited to find a Vellux blanket at a good price. In my experience, these are nice warm blankets and great quality. Wisconsin winters mean warmth is top priority in a blanket, not softness. I personally like a blanket with a little weight to it, but apparently that is contrary to the norm, as all the blankets seem to be advertised to be lightweight. By the time I make my bed, though, with sheets, two blankets, and a quilt, I have a bit of weight to make me comfortable, but not so much that my husband is uncomfortable. So there is one problem with this blanket, and it is very specific to a very specific kind of person. My husband has a strong aversion to cotton balls and anything with a similar texture. I have learned that this is not as rare a phobia as one might think. Fleece is always risky with him. Some fleece is soft enough that he never bats an eye, and some fleece has a texture that causes him to avoid it. And then there's this fleece. When I pulled the blanket out of the package, I immediately noted that it was an unusual texture, but I suspect it will soften with washing. However, we needed to get the bed made right then with no time for washing. When I started to unfold the blanket, I noticed how the fleece sticks to itself, almost like velcro, and even made a sound similar to what you hear when pulling velcro apart. When I finally had enough unstuck to toss to my husband (he was helping me make the bed), he grabbed it and immediately dropped it like it was a hot coal. The only way he could bring himself to touch that blanket was with gloves on. It probably sounds silly to some people, but if you or someone you know shares this aversion to cotton balls, you will completely understand what a big deal this is. I got lucky that this blanket is well-sandwiched between the sheet and a soft blanket, so once the bed is made, there is no reason for him to touch it. And I am hopeful that a wash or two will soften it enough to allow him to touch it without panic. For now, though, I am praying that the velcro quality of this blanket will keep it stuck to the other blanket well enough that it won't accidentally touch him in the middle of the night. Basics: Blanket is warm, fits bed okay - not nearly as much drape on sides as I would like, only about 4-5" on each side, and the length is such that there isn't a great amount to tuck in, so hopefully the top blanket (longer) will keep it tucked. Texture of blanket is unusual, definite concern for people who have aversion to cotton or other textural issues.

Comfortable, warm and soft

Vellux blankets are fantastic! My wife and I first encountered Vellux blankets years ago when celebrating our anniversary getaway at an upscale 5-star hotel. We were impressed with the softness, light weight, and comfort of this amazing blanket fabric. After our hotel stay, we purchased Vellux blankets for our own home and have been happily using them exclusively for decades. These outstanding blankets are an absolute joy to use and are super easy to care for. Currently, there are several different versions of Vellux blankets. We've tried a couple of their newer styles, but still prefer the original one. It is suggested to wash these before sleeping on them. Ironically, this blanket actually improves its texture and softness every time it is washed. There is zero fraying, fuzzing or pilling like most other fabrics and the color never fades. Typically, we get years of use out of our original version Vellux blankets. This product is a genuine winner and will very likely put a smile on your face too. Highly recommended.

i have used these for years , got hooked on the light weight and comfort of them ,they are warm in winter and don't over heat you in summer , VELLUX is the only brand i ever bought so i don't know about the others , ,, it s not like a cozy or throw blanket , its does not shed or wrinkle , , just be careful on washing,, , gentle cycle and gentle dry , you will be surprised at your sleep when you don't wake ups sweating from a heavy comforter or chilled with a normal sheet ,,i still have a comforter for looks but fold it back and sleep under VELLUX ,i met a person who was burned in a fire and he said because of burns they are perfect not heavy not to light and his sleep was great ..my first was at a hotel 30 years ago and since then bought my own and love them ,, not everyones sleep habits are the same , so judge for yourself , also i always rinse and dry before using but thats me hope this helps and no i dont do this for adds this is my personal option on something that i like

I just received my king size Navy Blue Vellux Blanket today and I am like other customers! The blanket stuck to it's self right out of the package as if it was Velcro! I washed it in cool water and put it through the dryer on gentle and low heat. I was surprised when I cleaned the dryer filter! There was not much lint in the filter like I thought there would be... that was a shocker. It is soft but feels like it has foam rubber inside of it. It is quite heavy and stiff even though I have washed and dried it once! I hope it softens up more and gets more limp and not so stiff as if it is made of foam rubber!!! I have put it on my bed so I am going to keep it and give it a try! It seems everything you buy these days is from China and just a "Roll of the Dice!" I am editing this two days later: I have slept under this blanket for two nights and the very first night, even though I had washed and dried this blanket right out of the package, this blanket has an odd chemical-rubber smell. So for that reason I am leaving the bedspread off of it for several days to let that dissipate. I always have my sheet come up and over the top of the blanket so my body does not touch the blanket. I wash my sheets weekly but not my blankets. But even though I had the sheet up and over the top about ten inches I could still smell a chemical-rubber smell. I will say this... it is nice and warm on cold mornings here in the mountains. And that is what I was looking for... a med thin blanket.

I love this blanket, it's as warm as thick duvet without the weight. 100% recommend it.

Been using this brand and line for over 15 years. Just find the product is no longer the same quality as it was back then. Still good but not as warm and soft like before.
