Great bowl! Trouble? Read this!!
This is a great bowl but mine arrived without any instructions other than an advertisement for the filters and how to install them. Initially I thought it was missing parts like the bowl and a cap that I describe later. I hope this review saves others time and frustration in case yours does not have instructions like mine. The box contains the reservoir on the top and in a false bottom I later discovered, the bowls. I almost returned mine because I thought parts were missing! The top of the reservoir contains a black plastic ring that covers the molded portion of the reservoir itself. Both pieces function as a handle to carry the filled or empty jug and as a way to lock the reservoir in place to the bowl after you refill the bottle. It also allows the top part to lay flat on the floor for refilling or screwing on the filling cap. ASSEMBLY: I have included photos of what the bottom screw on lid looked like on arrival. Note the center bottom hole is open. 1) If you do NOT plan to use the optional charcoal filters, there is a cap sitting on a post that you MUST use to cover this center hole or your reservoir will overfill. I suspect this is the reason some complain of overfilling. As there were no directions, I missed this little cap at first. See the pictures that I provided. This cap sits in a post on the fill cap that is easy to miss. 2) IF you plan to use the filters, these come with black valve that fits into the hole so you MUST put the cap on its post to have it work properly. The filter will not work unless you take this cap off so water can flow through the filter mechanism. FILLING: You cannot fill this from the top as some reviews suggested. It fills from the bottom but it has a cap that screws on the bottom to prevent spilling and leaking while you are carrying or installing the reservoir to the bowl. Water comes out of that spring loaded valve once the reservoir is locked in place. I am older but had no issues carrying the filled reservoir. Even filled, the container was not too heavy. BOWL DEPTH: Some reviews stated their bowls were not sufficiently deep. We have two larger dogs including a 105 lb German Shepherd and at least for the large size we ordered it works for either dog. The bowl is about 3-4 inches deep on the front where they drink so that is more than sufficient for most dogs. WATER FLOW/NOISE: I noticed very little noise while the water flows into the dish. You hear a faint glug but it should not wake one up or be bothersome for most. It does fill somewhat slowly when first filling the bowl from empty but my dogs had no issue getting the water they needed while drinking. Having too small a dish for your dog may cause issues I suppose. Those who report loud glugging sounds may want to check that their center hole cap is secured (if not using a filter). I have not used a filter yet so I cannot comment on sounds it may make with that installed. Sorry for the long review but I hope it solves some issues that others reported and helps those trying to figure it out if there are no instructions in the box like mine.

Must have.
Love this. Finally an opening at the bottom where I can get my hand in to clean the inside of the container! Metal dish is better for your animal to drink out of plus it keeps it cool. Itโs very sturdy and easy to clean. My cats & dogs seem to all enjoy drinking from it. No problems. Water flow is good. I replaced all their water dishes with this one ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ.

Good Basic Product
I can not review this product's durability since I've only had it one week, but otherwise I am pretty happy. I initially considered a fountain model, but having to manage location based on proximity to an electrical outlet, not to mention that most puppies found electrical cords to be interesting chew toys, made an electric model out of the question for now. I did not get the filter based on mixed reviews and the fact that I use filtered water and refill it daily and wash everything about every other day. Pros: It works. It is not an overly engineered design which makes it pretty simple to use. The medium size handles about one day of water for my two dogs. The stainless steel bowl is good quality and went through a dishwasher cycle with no issues. It is not heavy, but has enough heft to it that it has not been knocked over yet. Con: I have a large breed puppy. The bowl itself is fairly small. As she grows, I am concerned that the bowl may simply be too small for her to drink comfortably. Since this product does not continually filter the water like an electric model, it does require more cleaning to keep sediments out of the bowl. Overall it's a good product. Keep in mind, since it has to be cleaned pretty regularly, this is not a fill it and forget it kind of product. My suggestion is to consider the reservoir capacity AND the bowl size when purchasing.

Definitely better then the plastic ones
Definitely better then the plastic ones. The stainless steel liner bowl makes a big difference. I'm glad I purchased this. I recommend this product. Quality is good, the capacity of holding water great.

Highly Recommended for Pet Owners and People into BDSM
Hey, Iโm James Brains with the Brains Report, and this is my video review of the PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station. There are 3 main reasons why we like the PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station: 1. Clean โ Our preschooler likes to play with the petโs water. This water station reduces the amount available to him. In fact, heโs shown little interest in it. 2. Easy to Use โ I didnโt even have to read the directions. Just pop and fill and replace. Itโs a PFR operation. 3. Easy to Clean โ Remove the stainless steel bowl and use your soap-dispensing dish scrubber to gitter done. We got this for our two cats and dog for Christmas last year. You see, we have a family tradition of getting each other water bowls. Much like Stranger in a Strange Land, we believe the sharing of water and water receptacles is a true sign of friendship and love. The pets immediately took to the water. Even the cats like doing their weird licky thing in it. We have not had any issues with rust, and we like that you can see the water level to know when to add more. Also, itโs BPA-free and dishwasher safe, though I donโt think it would fit in our dishwasher. This model improved our home dรฉcor immensely. Before, people would come over and say, โEwww, letโs leave.โ Now, they stay for hours at a time. Some visitors even take their shoes off and get comfortable! Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who has pets and doesnโt like giving them water too often. We only have to fill it about every week or so. If you donโt have pets, I really donโt know how you would get much use out of this. Maybe for some weird BDSM play? I donโt know. Itโs your kink. Anyway, five stars! If you have any questions, please comment below. Iโm here to help.

Top heavy I guess?
Ok, so I have two of these, one of the small ones for my cats and one of the large ones for my dogs. I bought the cat one first and liked it so much that I bought the large one to replace my dogs' existing gravity water bowl. So for positives, I really like the removable metal bowl that makes for super easy cleaning. I also like that there is a spring loaded open/close valve on the water container so you don't spill water every where as you put it back on. But honestly, as much as I like it, there are several negatives that ultimately led me to knock two stars, one for the cat bowl and one for the dog bowl. For the smaller cat bowl, the problem is that it's too light and not wide enough. My one cat is obviously a jerk (because she is, after all, a cat) and she likes to knock the whole thing over, causing however much water is above the halfway mark to leak out and all over the floor. I solved this problem by putting the bowl on a leftover piece of flooring that we had, taking the metal bowl out, and running a screw down through the plastic bowl and into the piece of flooring. Now it's secured down and it's too wide for her to knock it over. So far anyway. For the dogs, the bowl is too shallow. We have two boxers, one at 70 pounds and one at 100 pounds, so they aren't small dogs. They spill water out of this thing CONSTANTLY with their drinking. I ended up getting a tray that's meant to go under a rabbits catch (that has 3 inch high walls) and set the water bowl down in that. They now fill the bottom of that thing and I have to dump it out periodically. Lastly, there are two problems for both. First the container is transparent but it's not that easy to see through, so all the animals tend to run out of water and I don't even notice it's getting low because unless it's in a really well lit area, it's hard to see the water level. Second, both the small and large container use the same opening size on the bottom with the same screw on lid. It's so small you can't get your arm in it to clean the inside of it. For the cat container that's not a huge deal because it's not too deep so you can still clean it. For the large bowl, I stick my hand in and i'm still at least a foot from being able to reach the top to clean it out. I end up just putting soap in it, putting the lid back on, and shaking it really hard and hoping that gets it cleaned. The opening should be bigger. So despite all my complaints, I'd still buy it again because of how easy it is to clean the metal bowl and the leak proof dispenser for when you're refilling it.

Finally found a water bowl that has a handle & easy for someone with dexterity issues to pick up!
I have been searching for a water bowl with a handle for quite some time without success. I have dexterity issues with both of my hands; and it is difficult for me to grab items and pick them up. I am also in a motorized scooter which gets in the way. This water bowl is so easy to use once you figure it out! Ha! When I first got the bowl I attempted to twist off the top with the handle; however that's not how it works. The black part where the handle is does not come off. You have to turn it upside down and take off the black part from the bottom and fill the reservoir with the water. Since I am not able to stand at the sink I have to put the reservoir on the floor which sits flat. I then fill a pitcher and pour the water into the reservoir. There is a lip on the canister that fits into the actual bowl to lock it into place so you have to line that up but once you see it it's easy to do. I actually got the largest size by mistake which is too big for my cat and dog; however it's the right size when my cousin visits with her lab. So it worked out just fine. What I love about it It has a handle which is easy for me to use even with my issues with my hands. When I'm filling it, it is flat on the floor. It does not leak It is easy to lock into place I can see how much water is in the reservoir What I wasn't initially thrilled with A filter is needed in order to use the product, and I did not notice this when I purchased it. I feel that at least one filter should have come with the dispenser. The filters last up to 2 months. What I like The filters are universal so they will fit the various sizes of this model. It does not take electricity to filter the water as it is a basic filter. This is not a fountain so there is no movement of the water. I can move the bowl around and not need access to electricity. I have finally found my forever water bowl for my fur babies! It's a bowl that I can pick up,fill and clean as needed! Yay!

Update12 Years Later. Very Nice Watering Station
Update 4/10/2026: I bought the large waterer in 2014. I'm still using it. It's never broken, or leaked. I've never had the spout get clogged or broken. I'm about to buy a 2nd one for the cats. It keeps a constant supply of fresh water. I just got done looking through Amazon, and to this day, there is no other waterer that compares. We have very hard water. I wash the Stainless steel base in dishwasher and it comes out just as shiny as the day I bought the waterer. I've had the waterer for 2 German Shepherd puppies back in 2014, one of which has passed on now. Now, it waters my now elderly GSD and my 9 month old GSD puppy + 4 cats. The large waterer holds 2 1/2 gallons of water. I'll probably get the medium, which holds 1 gallon for the cats, to put in a different room, so they don't have to run the "German Shepherd puppy gauntlet" to get water. I will never buy a different waterer. It's worth 10 stars. We have 2 German Shepherds and 10 cats, so we go through a lot of water (it only takes 2 days for the 2.5 gallon water to deplete). I had a Petmate 2.5 gallon watering dispenser. It was very hard to refill. I'm disabled, so trying to carry the bottle of water upside down, then dumping it into place, and trying to get it seated before it spilled all over the floor, was a "challenge" in the best of circumstances, and a disaster in a couple of circumstances. After I dropped the bottle for the bazillionth time, it finally broke open. I think that my GSD Maggie is a water dog in disguise, because she'll play in an open water bowl (which is why I used to keep the water bowl in the shower). I was on the hunt for a sturdy water dispenser. I really like this dispenser! The entire bowl area contains a removable stainless steel water dish. The top of the unit, has a sturdy carrying handle (thank goodness for small favors!), which makes it a whole lot easier to carry from the sink to the bowl, leaving one hand free should I need to balance myself. It NEVER dripped, even one drop, as I carried it to the water bowl. The bottle firmly locks into the base, so critters (who like to play in water) cannot dislodge it. A couple of things to note on PetSafe Water Station. It is taller than the most 2.5 gallon water dispensers. Even though I have a relatively high faucet on my kitchen sink, to fill the bottle, I had to aim the opening at about a 45 degree angle, across my double sink, to get the faucet over the hole. Once I got it as full as possible, I sat it upright, and topped it off with the kitchen sink sprayer. Since it has the carrying handle, I would be careful not to accidentally sit it down on the dispensing end; the spring loaded flow control valve could break.

Quality product at a reasonable price
I purchased the PetSafe Heathly Pet small after trying the pump fountain type units. These are often a pain to clean, collect hair, need replacement pumps and filters. This water station is something different and it is fantastic - no complicated parts, all dishwasher safe, no filter to clean, quality construction (parts feel thick and strong) PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station, Small Best features: - Dishwasher safe - No filters to buy - Looks nice Pros: - If you've had similar items you know what I mean when I say being able to throw everything in the dishwasher is a big plus. Never worry about bacteria and associated issues, I just put mine in once a week, which is about how long the water lasts. - No filters to buy is a pro to me. Some people want the extra assurance these small filters offer, and they make filters for these. But they are not required and the unit works great without them. Instead of filters, see the weekly dishwasher comment above. PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Filter, 2-Pack, PFD17-11867 - Asthetics. Last in my list, but still a consideration if this is in the kitchen. It looks nice, stainless steel and black, not too obtrusive. Cons: - No real cons. The black lid serves no purpose other than aesthetics, yet it is removable for some reason. Opinion: Buy one if you need a pet water fountain / station. Small is good for one cat, medium for 2 cats or a dog, and the large is big so plan to put it somewhere out of the way. Filters are the same for all sizes. I've used many types, and this is easy to clean, only a plain old bowl would be easier. No moving parts or anything to break.

Convenient and usefull
I got 2, one of the broke, the spiral thing went missing to one of them so it's a bit inconvenient to refill but it still works, we had ours for a few months now and it held up pretty well, it's plastic and I could not find if they sell replacements other then the filters(witch I did not try), a replacement bowl and the spiral metal thing
