Genuine filters make a real difference — my cats drink more with a fresh filter
I've been using the PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station for several months and finally ordered the replacement filters — and I'm glad I did. You can visibly tell the difference when comparing a used filter to a fresh one: the carbon inside darkens significantly, which tells you it's actually doing its job of removing odors, sediment, and impurities from the water. Installation is completely tool-free and takes about a minute. Just rinse the new filter under cold water for 2-3 minutes before inserting it into the fountain base. The instructions are clear and printed on the packaging itself. A few things worth noting for prospective buyers: - These are the genuine PetSafe brand replacement filters, not third-party knockoffs. I've tried cheaper alternatives before and found they don't fit as snugly and seem to degrade faster. - The 2-pack is great value — at the recommended replacement interval of every 2 months, this covers 4 months of use. - My cats drink noticeably more water from the fountain when the filter is fresh, which is the whole point of a pet water fountain. - The coconut shell carbon is a nice touch — it's a higher-quality carbon source that does a better job of odor control than standard activated carbon. If you have the PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station, don't skip filter replacements. It makes a real difference in water quality and keeps your pet drinking consistently. Highly recommend sticking with the OEM filters for best fit and performance.

Cycle it correctly = no problems with debris
We have been using these filters for years for our doodle and it’s been amazing. The water is always clear and clean when you follow the directions of running water through it prior to installing it to the water dispenser. We did have to remove the spring on the dispenser because it was preventing the water from flowing often, but the filters work just as intended!

DO NOT REMOVE THE BLACK RUBBER SEAL ON THE FILTER
I can't believe I need to explain this but if you've removed the rubber stopper at the top of the filter, you've successfully wasted your money. The rubber stopper is called a "check valve" or non-return valve. It's sole purpose is to make sure things can flow one way but not the other; in this case, so air can flow into the reservoir, but water can't flow out of that particular hole, because THERE'S NO FILTER IN THAT HOLE! If you've removed it, you may as well just not added the filter in the first place. If you look at Tony C's picture, he shows the small plastic cap you're supposed to uncap on the reservoir lid. You may still run into an issue where it stops dispensing water even if there is water in the reservoir; this seems to be an issue with how the reservoir is oriented and where the actual dispensing hole (the rod with the spring) aligns in the bowl itself. If yours stop dispensing water while it's still full, take note of how the "Petsafe" logo is aligned on top of the reservoir. Put the reservoir into the bowl so that it's aligned opposite to what it was before (i.e. if it reads "Petsafe" rotate the reservoir so that it reads "ǝɟɐsʇǝԀ" or vice versa) As for the filter review, it's alright so far. The entire reason I bought it was because the reservoir would have fruit flies in it when I'd go to refill and it smelled horrible from all my dog's slobber getting sucked back up into it. So I mainly bought it to keep the flies and slobber out of the reservoir, rather than filtering the water itself; to which it seems to do a good job of. Hopefully this has kept some of you from following bad advice and flushing your money down the drain. Edit: As for the carbon/charcoal leaking through the filter; activated carbon is harmless when consumed. In fact, if your pet was poisoned and your brought them to a vet, the vet would probably have them ingest activated carbon/charcoal to absorb the poison. Same thing for humans. Human water filters like Brita or in-fridge water filters can/do leak carbon as well. This is why they say to dump the first several glasses of water when installing a new filter in a fridge. It's not visually pleasing, but it is practically harmless. Do a google search for "water filter leaking carbon" and see for yourself.

Great filter
Love this!! Got the dog bowl a couple months ago and finally ordered the filter about a month ago because our little shih tzu has really bad tear stains and her face and in between her eyes will get red and crusty and she’s done all the treatments and remedies to cure it as well as us washing her face daily. I’ve read filtered water helps with that and its only been a month and has helped a lot! (I know it’s hard to tell in the picture) her fur around that area is slowly getting back to white, her eyes are clearing up. The filter has made the water stop coming out like twice but I don’t know what these other people are complaining about because I literally just wiggle the jug of water softly once and it’s fine lol.

Damaged and toxic product for your pet as well as causing plumbing issues.
Damaged. Broken filter leaked toxic hard plastic beads which ended up down in my sink garbage disposal. Thankfully, my to dog did not consume these toxic beads. Petsafe making it very difficult to resolve by requesting receipt from 3 months ago from Amazon which they do not provide. Petsafe requires that I FedEx the broken part back to receive a refund. What a hassle. Don't recommend this product for your pet.

Not sure they work
Not sure if they actually work. The charcoal leaks out and black gets in water container.

Works fine, instructions not great
This works fine. I see a lot of reviews saying it stops the water. I had this happen at first too. The instructions for to mention to remove the black tab on the filter. Which makes it very difficult for water to go through. One I saw the black tab over the opening, i removed it and have never had an issue since. I have been using this producer for over 2 years and was coming to reorder some new filters and couldn’t believe the negative reviews. So I hope this helps everyone.

A Marvelous Addition for Pet Owners
I've been very happy with this product, especially because it lasts 6 to 8 weeks. The U.S.-based customer care is really commendable, always ready to help. It uses a quiet carbon water filter which my pets and I appreciate. It keeps the water fresh for pets and fits small, medium, and large sizes. I am impressed by PetSafe's established experience in this industry. One outstanding feature is its compatibility with PetSafe Stations. All in all, a worthy purchase for pet owners.

Great filters
I know there were a lot of reviews hating on the air lock. If you want to fix the air lock problem, use a very small hole punch to put hole in the rubber gasket at the top. I used the smallest leather punch I had. But, I don't do that anymore. I actually like it. My gsd and labs are messy drinkers and the air lock means less water on the floor. All I have to do is jostle the waterer and it refills.

Works as described. Ignore all the people who are incapable of reading a 3-step set of instructions.
Does what it says it does. All the problems people are describing are due to not reading the instructions on the back of the box. There are only 3 steps. I'm not sure why this is so complicated. "No water is coming through, I have to keep shaking it! OMG!" (Step 1 of instructions: open the little black cap. Water flows freely.) "There are little black particles in the water! My pet is going to die! OMG!" (Step 2, 3 of instructions: rinse the filter thoroughly to wash away loose charcoal particles. No more black particles.) I docked one star because you do need to make sure you rinse the filter thoroughly before first use. Otherwise you do get black particles during the first little while but it disappears quickly if you keep rinsing and emptying. Also, it's activated charcoal, people. A few tiny particles isn't going to hurt your pet.
