I really do like this company, Canary, they make great products. The scissors are super sharp and stay that way for a long time. And this new cardboard box cutter is amazing. I have had it and used it for the past 3 months and it is like using a hot knife through butter, or cardboard in this case. The knife has these tiny little serrations which makes all the difference in cutting cardboard so easy. Since the pandemic, my wife and I have been ordering things online more often. So we get packages nearly 4-5 times a week. The amount of cardboard boxes starts to build up, and just breaking them down and folding them was not enough. They needed to be cut into the right size to fit inside the recycling bin. So I tried a regular knife, which worked but eventually the knife got dull and I had to sharpen it. Then I tried those utility knives, which then I started going through those replacement blades a lot. So then I found this, and it’s been perfect so far. No need to sharpen as it stays super sharp, but not dangerous to hands and other fleshy body parts that might get in the way, say my fat arm or foot. The tip is rounded so you can’t really stab yourself too bad and it also has a nice non-stick coating to keep the adhesive tape residue down as well. I also love the bright yellow handle which just brings joy as i cut up cardboard boxes with easy. And now all the boxes fit nicely into the recycling bin.

Being in the market for a new box opener, I was skeptical at first about these but decided to give them a try. I was looking for something high quality that would last and something safe to handle. I know a lot of people use utility knives, but at the end of the day, they're not safe in the long term and you constantly have to replace blades as well as keep track of where it is along with replacement blades - meaning a utility knife is going to be sought after and used for more than just boxes. It's a lot easier to just have one tool for one job. A box opener in a standard location (fridge, doorway, living room, etc) is not likely to get "borrowed" or lost or misplaced and since I receive a lot of packages I did not want to have to constantly go to the tool box for it. The only problem was the price tag, but after using it, I have no regrets. It cuts cardboard a lot easier than it looks like it would and the steel is high quality Japanese steel. The tip also works great for labels although I prefer to use a butane torch lighter to erase address information. I recommend the long versions. They can and will cut you if you test slice them on your skin after some use - the serrations get sharper when the black coating wears off the edges, but it's much safer than blades. For removing built up residue, I'd recommend Goo Gone adhesive remover or WD-40, which works much better than rubbing alcohol. Just be careful stroking the paper towel on it so that you don't cut through to your hand.

This simple item is my favorite thing I've ever bought on Amazon, makes breaking down cardboard boxes a breeze. Very safe, no cuts comparted to a box cutter. You can even use it to cut cardboad like a saw against the grain.

I bought this about 10 years ago when we needed to dispose of a ton of cardboard boxes from moving. It has been my companion every week the night before trash pickup as I break down boxes and cut up the really giant boxes. Somehow, I lost my original two weeks ago and its nowhere to be found. I don't want a box cutter blade! This knife cuts through cardboard like butter with its serrated blade. Trust me - if you need to cut cardboard you will love this cutter too!

Must have for anyone with kids in the house, as they easily cut boxes and letters but are so much safer than traditional bladed box cutters and letter openers.

Does a great job on packages shipped in cardboard boxes. So far so good but have only been using for a couple of months and it is still sharp. I do get a lot of packages in big boxes so this works. You have to use it like a saw instead of a box cutter where you just slice down the cardboard. However, with my box cutter I was always having to replace the blades so in the long run this is cheaper.

This is amazing! It goes through cardboard boxes and styrofoam amazingly, and doesn't seem able to cut your hands! I suspect that if you worked hard enough, you could manage to injure yourself, but it would be difficult, and you'd have to work hard at it. I have no idea how this is possible. I've been trying to break down a lot of boxes for disposal, and have tried heavy-duty scissors, and box cutters, and everything I could think of, and, after all that, this is what I reach for every time. I still use caution, as though it's sharp and can cut me, but I've still slipped a few times and should have gotten cut if I was using anything else, but I was undamaged, didn't even get a scrape or a sore spot! If you need to cut down a lot of boxes, skip the other things and get this!

I bought this a year ago on a whim after hearing somebody mention how much they loved this thing for opening packages. And it is perfect for that, does it well, and takes up little room and is not very expensive. But I now live in a world where cardboard boxes just accumulate, seemingly every day, and I need to get them into the recycling without taking up much room. That's where this gizmo shines! After opening cardboard packages and cutting through all the tape, I just slice up the boxes on their four corner edges and end up with four flat pieces of cardboard. I stack em up flat so they take little room and into the recycling they go! I love it, no crushing or trying to fit the boxes together like a puzzle, just a pile of flat cardboard. Easy! I have only one criticism, and that is that the flimsy sheath has no rigidity and is not good for storing the cutter as is. I taped mine to the thin cardboard product packaging by wrapping it with cello-tape in a few places, and now it sits in my pencil cup on my desk, ready to go when needed, but hiding the edges from fingers and other things. The makers should sell it with a sturdier sheath. And I do regret it a bit that I did not buy two of them, one for the desk and one for the kitchen to store in the knife drawer. No real complaints, I love it when I find a great tool at a good price, and love it even more when I find myself using it all the time to make life easier.
