Peak Refuel Chicken Pesto Pasta Freeze-Dried Camping Meal, 43g Protein

Went on a camping trip with some friends. Everyone got different food options. Everyone ended up eating mine because it was so good! It tasted like real pasta and sauce you’d have at a sit down dinner place! Definitely will be getting more! You do have to bring or make your own hot water to make the pasta!

Probably the best chicken pesto pasta from a freeze dried I have tasted. Easy to make quick and taste good. Purchased several times and consistency is spot on. Will continue to purchase

I tried this on my most recent outing into the Sierras. It was tasty and I'll consider it again after my current stash of meals runs low. So why the 4-star vs 5-star? It would have been a 4.5 if that was an option. The chicken didn't fully rehydrate so it was a little chewy/crunchy while the noodles were tender. But it was tasty and pesto is just the thing for the mountains. I would gladly eat this without the chicken. I don't think my prep technique was at fault. Rather than let it re-hydrate in the foil pouch, I transferred the pouch contents into a quart freezer bag so that I could let it re-hydrate in a Reflectrix-formed bowl. It's something I use with all dehydrated meals to hold the heat longer and provide some structure when eating. (On longer trips I transfer meals to the freezer bag before I go and save weight.) I added the directed amount of water, stirred, closed the Reflectix, stirred again at about 7 minutes. waited until 15 minutes had elapsed (it calls for 10), then stirred and dined. Everything was hot and well hydrated except the chicken.

This was actually so delicious, one of the better backpacking meals I’ve purchased! Shared it with a friend in a hammock & was so impressed with flavor, texture, and overall quality of product. Felt like I was eating pasta at a restaurant. This freeze-dried pasta meal was exceptionally flavorful—even had a creamy consistency. I loved the good quality ingredients and easy preparation. The meal provides decent amounts of protein as well! We followed the water directions exactly and waited the required time—turned out perfect. Will buy again!

I'm a fan of Peak Refuel for a long time now, since before the days of covid when alternatives to going out were needed. I tried this meal just hoping that they'd get the pesto right and I'm pleased to say boy did they ever! Follow the instructions to the letter regarding the amount of water to use, note that I use these at home and that's where the instructions change for me. I use the amount of water called for and if it seems like it's not enough trust me it is. That's due to the pesto is moist, the choice of pasta is perfect and the chicken as usual from Peak is real! I've eaten Italian food my entire life so I'm no stranger to pesto and at this point it's half of my usual order of six meals from them per month. If you're using this while hiking or camping after stirring in the water if possible set the pouch back in the pot you boiled the water in and cover it/tuck in a kitchen towel all around it and let it set for 21 minutes, that's what I do at home and it's perfect. Peak is the new kid on the block when it comes to dehydrated meals for hiking/camping or home use. You won't be disappointed with your choice.
