Review: Great value - Allen Company Crossbow Bow String Wax and Rail Lube Combo is a practical and essential product for any crossbow owner looking to maintain their equipment and ensure optimal performance and longevity. This dual-purpose product offers convenience and effective lubrication for both the bowstring and the rail. Key Positives: * Two-in-One Convenience: Having both string wax and rail lube in a single package is a significant advantage. It simplifies maintenance and ensures you have both necessary lubricants readily available. This is especially handy for beginners or those who prefer a streamlined approach to crossbow care. * Specifically Formulated for Synthetic Strings: The wax is designed specifically for synthetic crossbow strings, which are the standard for modern crossbows. This ensures proper conditioning and prevents drying, fraying, and premature wear, ultimately extending the life of your string. * Effective Rail Lubrication: The rail lube effectively reduces friction between the arrow rail and the bowstring serving. This leads to smoother, more consistent shots, improved accuracy, and reduced wear on both the string serving and the rail itself. * Easy to Apply: Both the wax and the lube are easy to apply. The wax typically comes in a stick form that you rub onto the string and then work in with your fingers. The rail lube is usually a liquid or gel that you apply sparingly to the rail. * Helps Maintain Performance: Regular application of both the string wax and rail lube helps maintain the crossbow's performance. A well-lubricated system ensures consistent arrow speed and trajectory. * Affordable Price Point: Allen Company products are generally known for their affordability, and this combo is no exception. It offers good value for money compared to buying separate string wax and rail lube. * Compact and Portable: The combo is usually compact and easy to store in your crossbow case or gear bag, making it convenient to have on hand at the range or in the field. Potential Considerations: * Quality of Wax/Lube (Entry-Level): While effective for general maintenance, some hardcore or competitive shooters might prefer higher-end, specialized waxes and lubes for maximum performance and durability. However, for the average crossbow user, this combo is perfectly adequate. * Application Frequency: The frequency of application will depend on how often you shoot your crossbow and the environmental conditions. You'll need to develop a routine that works best for your usage. * Packaging: The packaging is functional but basic. Some users might prefer more elaborate or resealable containers. Overall: The Allen Company Crossbow Bow String Wax and Rail Lube Combo is a solid and practical choice for crossbow maintenance. Its two-in-one convenience, ease of use, and effectiveness in lubricating both the string and rail make it a valuable tool for preserving your crossbow's performance and longevity. While it might be considered an entry-level option by some, it provides excellent value for the price and meets the needs of most crossbow owners. I recommend this combo for anyone looking for a simple and effective way to care for their crossbow.
Review: Most folks don't consider the importance of string wax. - Sting wax is one major maintenance point that many shooters never give much thought to ..., until a string breaks (twang - @&*#^*#@) and then they want to know why. Wax is the best way to keep dust, dirt and grit out of the string as well as moisture which will cause rot. Normal bow usage when hunting or just practice exposes it to all types of filth and dirt is one sure way to cause string failure. (Imagine a 65 Lb. pull bow exploding in your hands) An unprotected string collects dirt in-between the individual strands where it cuts away as an abrasive. Repeated drawing, releasing and the cables being pulled over cams only works dirt in and cuts the string from the inside out. Outside dry areas with loose treads and frayed strands are a sign of poor string maintenance. The best time to wax one is before it's on the bow or loosened on a bow press, not when it's under tension, that way the wax gets into the strands, don't worry because as soon as the load is applied the excess squeezes out easily and you just wipe it off. I like to heat the tube a little bit but not to the point where it's softened, almost liquid, but only to the point where it's workable and a little messy, when it returns to room temperature it'll be fine. Bees wax is okay but is generally too hard and causes the string to get overly stiff which will slow down the arrow speed, the string needs to flex and hard wax's hold a sting so tight they could stand up straight so they don't flex easily, couple that with the cold temperatures during hunting season and your arrow speed can be slowed down by 15 - 20 FPS with a hard string. Over-waxing can be nearly as bad, remember anything you add to the string will slow the arrow down so a light wax treatment is best. I like to wax them first and then put them under a load and rub them with a piece of leather or suede and it removes the rough balled up area. After the initial wax for a new string routine treatments (depending on use and conditions) should be lightly re-waxing and rubbing when you come out of the field to remove any build-up of crud or external dirt (while it's still on the bow this time). An exploding bow can be one expensive, serious experience and dangerous too. The Allen wax in the tube is a formulation made for handling the temperatures it will see in the field, they have been at this a long time and the wax consistency wasn't an accident, they make it that way for a reason. I've used it for over 30 years with no complaints and no exploded bows or broken strings. It also works great on the threads for field point & broad-heads to reduce the chance of loosening plus it keeps them snug & silent inside the ferrule, it can also be used on sight pin threads depending on the type sight you have. (Tasty too - hahaha..., okay only joking now) ... if you have the luck I have and don't even see a deer, do what I do ..., wax the truck.
