That's on me.If you're running a cable modem or DSL modem from an ISP, a switch won't delegate sub-IP assignments -- in short, you need a router. Not a switch. However, as a switch, it performs excellently, throughout speeds are good, and the voltage-aware "green" factor appears to work; while untested, the claims of reduced energy consumption seem realistic.Hefty, though not truly heavy -- heavy is good if you hang 8 wires off the back at the edge of a desk -- TRENDnet has produced a home consumer of SOHO switch that works well, intelligently routes cables out the back, leaving the front "light only" for desktop "is this thing on" visual indications, and is generally designed in a pleasant way.The bright green may clash with some setups, but if you're running an 8-port unmanaged gigabit switch, you're probably zen-happy with the lime accents. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A nice gigabit switch for Home *by H***W on October 28, 2010* I had no idea what to expect, but turned out to be excellent for my needs. The switch is a small, lightweight and a with solid metal construction. It does eat less power than my wireless AP (measured with Kill-A-Watt), and the best: it never gets hot!It has some small ventilation holes on both sides, but even when this model is the one with internal power (no external brick, less clutter) it made me happy it wont be an additional heat source in the HTPC/Bluray/TV area.Network performance is good for a dumb Giga switch (and price), it may not have advanced features like management, SNMP and port aggregation, but for an average house should suffice. It will also work excellent as secondary switch -due to its small size and no heat- to plug remote devices (like TV, BluRay and HTPC as I did) to the main switch (that may be a smart one if you need it ;) ### ⭐ Short circuited didn't work *by T***R on November 21, 2013* Didn't work for me. Every time I plugged it in it short-circuited. Tried different plug adapters but same result, so must be a faulty unit. Unfortunately I didn't test it within the return period time, so am stuck --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.sn/products/1556531-trendnet-8-port-unmanaged-gigabit-greennet-desktop-metal-housing-switch](https://www.desertcart.sn/products/1556531-trendnet-8-port-unmanaged-gigabit-greennet-desktop-metal-housing-switch) --- *Product available on Desertcart Senegal* *Store origin: SN* *Last updated: 2026-10-16*
