### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quietstove works, just wish it attached better

*by U***E on April 27, 2014*

I recently bought a Primus Omnilite TI Primus P-321987 OmniLite Ti Camp Stove with 0.35-Liter Fuel Bottle, Heat Reflector and Windscreen, Grey. I have previous experience with similar stoves, and I know how noisy they can be. Quietstove apparently relies on word of mouth advertising, so I only came across their product by sheer luck.I posted a video to demonstrate the effectiveness of the QuietStove for Primus Omnilite Ti. Jump to the end of the video for the demonstration.I think this product would be better if the maker included an attachment clip.

### ⭐ Not worth the money, time, fuel, frustration, or inconvenience

Good instructions, just does not work right. If it is quieter, I could not notice a difference over stock. Thankfully the instructions warn you to look for signs the QuietStove damper is burning internally, because it kept burning inside on every attempt to use it. I made sure it was oriented correctly and fully seated but I noticed that no matter how I rotated it, there was always some hairline gaps where the base of this damper met the original bell housing around the jet. I always use a wind/heat deflector but I noticed that when I could get a good ring of blue flames from the QuietStove damper the wind would still negatively affect it despite the deflector. I never had this problem in stock configuration. On my first attempt starting from a cold stove, getting the fuel tube hot is more of a challenge since I do not have the dish of the original flame spreader. I ended up using a piece of cotton soaked with camp fuel which is one more thing I would need with my stove to light it in a controlled manner. With the fuel tube hot enough to atomize fuel, I opened the valve and the QuietStove damper was not putting out a ring of blue flames, instead the metal body was turning all kinds of colors (burning internally), so I closed the valve and let it cool. I tried again when it was cool enough for me to re-seat the damper. It produced a nice ring of blue flames this time so I began to think the first time was a fluke, so I put a pot of water on top and began timing for the rolling boil. Less than a minute on the watch and I heard the sound on the damper change so I pulled the pot off and sure enough the metal body of the damper was changing color from burning internally. I closed the valve and waited for the stove to cool enough to adjust and re-seat the damper again, and started over (also trying slightly different valve setting), but it was burning internally right away this time. Rinse and repeat and get nice ring of blue flames followed by the damper regressing to burning internally shortly after.I am well-versed in using the valve on the MSR XGK-EX (it is very sensitive and flame response has a long lag time). If the QuietStove damper works on your stove, perhaps you are lucky. I have used many other gas-burning camp stoves. This damper makes using my stove the most frustrating and inconvenient experience of any stove I have ever used. I cannot believe I spent a lot of money on this.I wanted comparison times to bring 800mL of water to a rolling boil over the stock-configured stove, but I could never get this to work properly long enough to see what it could do, but it did not appear to be putting off as much heat as the stock configuration.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It solves the noise problem and still produces a very nice flame.

*by B***R on April 25, 2016*

I ordered the 107 V2 model for my MSR Dragonfly stove. To be honest the noise doesn't bother me but it seems to annoy everyone else so I bought this cap after a trip to the Grand Canyon where my son was mortified by the sound of our jet engine boiling water for coffee at 6AM.Does it work? Yes, it improves on the standard flame spreader plate in a few areas.....1.) It produces a slightly wider blue flame at full throttle so the heat is more evenly spread over the bottom of a pot.2.) It produces a very nice low flame and the flame stays spread wider at low settings too.3.) It really does drop the noise level a very noticeable amount. Are there any downsides? Not really. It seems to light easily using the same fire steel I've always used. There's a slightly different technique. You have to let the preheating flame go out completely then relight the stove but, that's no big deal. The stove won't invert completely any longer when I fold it up but it will still tip up so the valve is vertical for packing.Anything else? Some people have noted that the cap will "set" in place once it's heated and cools down. Mine does not. After it cooled down, the cap lifted right off the burner with no effort. Once again, no big deal. I'll just pop it on and off since it takes almost no time or effort.I gave it 5 stars because it performs as advertised. It solves the noise problem and still produces a very nice flame. It is also built to last like most liquid fuel stoves. While the price is a little outrageous, I don't foresee ever buying another one of these unless I lose it. And now my kid won't be embarrassed when I make coffee at sunrise.
