This happened to me, day one - just had to clean it out then but the bowl back in. To prevent it, I just started taking the entire toilet with me so he was not tempted to go while the bowl was out. -Unscrewing the inside of the toilet to put the batteries in was not difficult, but trying to get the batteries in and then re-screw the bottom back on was a bit challenging because it is a very tiny/deep area to work with.
