Installation review only.
Installed this sight set on my 336A. Installation was very easy. I received 2 front sights with different size dovetails. I filed the base of the front sight for my rifle just a bit at a time until I was able to get it started into the dovetail with my soft hammer, then used a punch to center. Rear sight was very simple, just two screws on top of reciever. That was it! Sight picture looks great, 10x better than stock buckhorn sights. Firesight is very bright and small diameter fiber optic rod centers very well. Adjustments are not click type. You loosen the adjustments screws and slide horizontally and/or vertically. There are vertical lines for reference but no horizontal lines. Once i'm sighted in I dont adjust so i'm ok with it. Contrary to other reviews I have seen you do not need to remove the aperture ring to make adjustments. Range trip this weekend! 5 STARS for installation, initial impression, & price

Good sight
This is a nice sight. The rear went on very smooth, but the front took some work. I used a very tiny screwdriver and hammer to tap it in. I ended up using some oil to lubricate the slot and it went in. It is a tight fit though, lol!!!

Way better than brass beads and buckhorns
Great option to improve factory buckhorn sights. If you’re not sure what you’re doing watch a few videos. A file, a brass or nylon drift/punch, a block of wood, and a hammer and you’ll be good. The fiber optic is a bit fat - good for fast or close work, but it makes precision shot more challenging.

Nice Upgrade
Not a fan of the notch rear/bead front combo that is stock on the 336W that i use as my brush gun. Especially when you are going after game that blends into the background. Putting a scope on a lever gun is ridiculous if you ask me, so that wasn't going to happen. Looked at a couple different options and went with the firesight.Installation was easy, two screws on the rear sight. The front sight was perfectly sized. Little bit of work with a mallet and punch and it slid in...lots of resistance so I don't believe its budging. Took it to the range shooting 160 grain 30-30 LEVERevolution from Hornady. Easy to pick up the front sight, easy to index on target, nice tight groups because of the consistent sight picture. The bad. The rear sight is adjustable for both windage and elevation, but only the ELEVATION has index marks. WTF? Why couldn't they put simple index marks for windage? What makes it even more difficult is that the tensioner screw for windage is either in or out. No way to keep tension on it, so it is almost impossible to make fine windage adjustments. I ended up taking my jewelers flat head and scoring the top of the windage plate myself that way I had an idea where I started from and could adjust from there. Once I scored the windage plate a few times I was able to adjust and was shooting a 1.75" group at 50 yards. Just wore out the middle of the target.Bottom Line. This would have EASILY been a five if the sights came with a windage index - C'mon Mr Williams!!! The scale doesn't even have to make sense (i,e. each hash is 1" at 100yds) just something to let you know where you started from so you can adjust without too much guessing. The index marks are already on the elevation ramp, just put it on the windage plate too! Some type of tension on the rear sight would be cool too, that way it doesn't just slip all over when you're trying to make adjustments. With all that being said, you get to keep the clean lines of your lever gun, it'll drive tacks once its locked in, and you get a fast, consistent, and accurate sight picture. I'd buy it again.

Great sight Great price.
I put this on a marlin 336 and it works great.at half the price of a Skinner or XS sight I figured i would give it a try. I don't like scopes on a leverGun but with old eyes i was going to have to do something. i was having trouble with plain open sights. the front sight would fuzz out as it moved down into the notch in the rear sight. this solved that. the fiber optic front seems to automatically center in the aperture as you look through it and the aperture fuzzes so you are only focusing on the target and the front sight is in view. i liked it so much, instead of buying a dovetail filler i just cut the original sight and used it . Very easy to mount and sight in. no problem with screws stripping , like other reviews stated . it is made from aluminum so keep that in mind when tightening the screws a little dab of locktite if you are worried about them backing out. this might not be the sight for you if you are going to shoot different loads from the same rifle.but if you find a load that shoots good in your rifle and stay with that one. this is fine

The sight was of good quality, but I just could not live with ...
This sight was supposed to fit my Marlin 1895. When I lined up the screw holes, if installed the rear of the sight base would extend a lot over the hammer. This is unacceptable so I returned it. Also it is advertised as having red and green front sights, but it came with two red ones, one a little longer than the other. The sight was of good quality, but I just could not live with the fit. I held the base up to my 336 Marlin, and it appears that there would still be some overhang of the hammer on it.

My favorite iron sights
This is the second set of these sights I've installed on a Marlin lever gun. For me, they are a huge improvement over the factory setup. Only issue I had was the fitment of the front sight, but that is to be expected with an interference fit. My issue was the screws that hold the front sight base on we're not long enough to get a good bite on the barrel, so to my dismay after some light taps the base came off the barrel. This was more of a defect with the assembly of the gun, as the screws were only engaged by maybe 1 or 2 threads. I cleaned up the threads with a tap that I ordered and ordered a few extra longer screws from Midway that fit perfectly. The end result is I now have a great set of sights that are securely fastened. Had I not knocked the base off, it would have likely fallen off over time due to the recoil of the 45-70. With these sights, I can consistently hit a 10" gong at 200 yards with my Marlin 357 mag.
