Question 1

Is this food good for weight loss? I have an 8 year of Pom that needs to lose about 7 lbs

Accepted Answer

This food really helped my beagle/corgi mix reach a healthy weight, and maintain it. Beagles and corgis are both known to get lazy and gain weight quickly, which she did, but after putting her on this food she got down to her optimal weight and has stayed there. She is a 25 lb. dog and gets 1/3 C. (dry measured) twice per day.

Question 2

What should the consistency be when mixed? My first time and it came out really soupy. Did I use too much water?

Accepted Answer

Hi There! Once hydrated, our foods will have the consistency of oatmeal or baby food. You may always adjust the texture by adding more or less water, depending on your pup's preference. If you have any other questions, feel free to send us an e-mail at questions@thehonestkitchen.com, or give us a call at 1-866-437-9729. We're happy to help! :)

Question 3

How many cups of dry food are in the 10lb box?

Accepted Answer

Hi There! A 10lb box of food will hydrate to 40lbs of food. This means that there are approximately 40 dry measured cups. If you have any other questions, feel free to E-mail us at questions@thehonestkitchen.com, or give us a call at 866-437-9729. We're happy to help!

Question 4

Why can't you just leave the garlic out? Now I am worried about continuing to feed to my babies.

Accepted Answer

Thanks for reaching out! Good question.

Garlic is actually only harmful in incredibly large amounts. In small amounts, it offers many health benefits. Many holistic vets and nutritionists include a small amount of garlic in their homemade recipes. The amount of garlic that we include in some of our foods (just 0.25%), is not enough to be harmful even to the smallest of dogs.

Garlic helps the immune system fight infections and disease as it strengthens the digestion and stimulates the intestinal tract. Garlic can have a powerful antioxidant effect. It helps the ability of white blood cells to fight infections by stimulating other immune cells. It also has anti-fungal and antibiotic properties. Garlic has also been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce the buildup of plaque, regulate blood sugar, prevent blood clots, reduce yeast infections and help prevent cancer. Its strongest affinities are for the liver, blood, cardiovascular system, and immune system.

Garlic contains protein, fiber, potassium, phosphorous, calcium, sodium, vitamin A, thiamine, niacin, taurine, zinc, riboflavin, and many other nutritive compounds.

We have several recipes in our line that are made with a very small quantity of garlic, as well as a selection of recipes that are garlic-free. Our garlic-free diets are:
