I would like to use these in a classroom with 8 & 9 year olds. Will these be too small?

No, I don’t think so. It is a very beautiful set. Even as an adult I enjoy playing with it with my 4 year old son. It’s a good investment piece. Well made and should last you many years in your classroom.

Are these solid wood?

Yes - solid wood. Pretty colors and enough blocks to create a village. My granddaughter loves them!
