Eton College Shaving Cream Bowl, 5.3-Ounce | Citrus fragrance with lemon, orange and mandarin; excellent lather leaves skin feeling nourished and refreshed

I'm a huge fan of Taylor of Old Bond Street (ToBS) shaving creams. I've tried many different shave creams over the years and without question, this company's product is vastly superior to anything I've used. Its rich lather is perfect with just the right amount of slickness that produces no razor burn. It's gentle on my skin and doesn't leave it feeling dried out or uncomfortable. Another plus is it lasts a long time! You don't need much on your brush to get a rich lather. Just a few small swipes on your brush with about a half a teaspoon of water in your shaving mug whips up to a nice lather. The Eton College shaving cream has the same creamy lather and quality as their other shaving creams. Many prospective customers may be wondering about the scent. The name "Eton College" doesn't provide any indication on how it smells, so it probably feels like you're taking a chance purchasing this shaving cream. As others have reported here, the scent is somewhat citrusy with a mild spicy touch. It's a very clean scent. My wife smelled my face after I shaved and said it smells a little like oranges. Compared to other ToBS shaving creams, like the sandalwood cream, it's a milder scent. The scent isn't powerful at all, yet it lingers well for hours after shaving. I really enjoy it. I highly recommend all of ToBS' shaving creams. The Eton College shaving cream is designed for those who like a clean, citrus scent. If this doesn't appeal to you, I'd recommend one of their other scents. ToBS has a number of scents to choose from (sandalwood, almond, lavender, rose, lemon and lime, avocado, shaving shop, Mr. Taylor, Eton college, St. James, Jermyn street for sensitive skin, grapefruit, and coconut). If you don't want a citrus finish, try one of their other scents. The shaving cream alone is worth every penny!

What an amazing shave cream! At first, I wasn't sure if it was a keeper but it turned out I just didn't use enough water when lathering so the cream dried out a little on my face, even flaked off like snow flurries in the air all around my bathroom. Still yet, it gave a great shave regardless and was the best shave I ever experienced. My next shave I used more water which prevented the cream from drying out like last shave. Instead I expereienced a wonderfully silky smooth lather that hydrated and lubricated my skin, which in turn allowed my Edwin Jagger 89lbl with Astra blade to glide ever so smoothly along my face. Then there is the scent, which I have to admit I wasn't fond of at first but after shaving the second time I found myself enjoying it quite a lot. Also worth mentioning, my wife loves the scent. The only other cream I can compare this to is Gentleman's Hangar Sandalwood scent. I am still new to shaving with a double edge safety razor with a brush and cream so have to experiment with many more products until I find what works best. However, I can already say TOBS will always have a place in my rotation of creams and soaps. For those who are interested, I initially gave the Gentleman's Hangar a five star review but after trying TOBS I lowered it to 3 stars. Between the two I feel TOBS provides a far superior shave. My next cream from Taylor will be the lavender or coconut. For those who haven't tried TOBS I hghly recommend you try it. The TOBS Eton College is a strong citrus scent, thus if you do not like citrus then choose whatever scent you prefer. I would imagine all of their creams lather similarly. Update 20 June 2015: I have been so excited with my new DE shaving hobby that I bought many other soaps and creams to try. I purchased 10 samples from Maggard Razors, which by the way is an EXCELLENT business with top notch customer service and shipping. I also purchased two shaving soaps in full size tins, both artisan soaps, one from Soapy Bathman and the other from Cattie's Bubbles. Now that I have tried other soaps and creams I can tell you that artisans are my favorites by far. The only other large company product I purchased was a sample from Castle Forbes, and it is definitely as good as TOBS and I would say superior because it doesn't dry out as much. I rank Soapy Bathman, Cattie's Bubbles, Dapper Dragon, and Mickey Lee Soapworks at the top in no particular order but all are in my permanent rotation. I only use TOBS when I am in a hurry because it is faster to lather than the soaps. From here on out I will be using artisan soaps primarily, but may try a few more from the larger companies such as Pre De Provence and L'Occitan.

Finally tried TOBS and this one. Smells nice, kinda like a mild cologne. Brush smells great. Cons only that blue sticker on top is wearing white already and you'd think it would be a bit more water proof; but it's incidental. Plus, getting a tube is so much more pricey, per volume. Why? I like the blue tub color and tub it's fine; but kinda basic. Not that I care. Pros are a nice amount and that does not take a lot. Mainly it does perform well, lathering quickly and producing great cushion and glide, that lasts. Nicely emulsifying the skin and lotion like effects that take a bit to rinse off, just like is best. Making excellent compliment for Feather and 3 shims, in my EJ DE89 on my old beard from hell, in light passes. Life is GOOD! Note: It's suppose to be REALLY light and about 2.5 (different direction) passes guys, or NOT optimal. After your technique is down and Feather (or your skins sharpest) is on deck, consider shimming or a more aggressive razor/gap. Because if you're digging like a cartridge, to get the stubble smooth, then you're doing it wrong and it's time to customize. Don't push it, change it and go EASIER. But yes it's training wheels-up at that point. You can get stubble on durable areas; but go lightest and less angle on any over sensitive areas like lower necks. Truly custom this close to the line. Get good at it and it's the perfection, they said was impossible. Let speed happen. Do NOT do more than 2 or 3 passes. 1 is to aggressive and I mean no-buffing (at all) passes. Not swiping all over the place and calling it one pass. Re-lather between passes. Per the closer, no irritation results, then 2 passes is FASTER, when optimized. If you new, shave a week or two very patiently, NOT absolute baby smooth and you'll get there. All the prep post and everything, even what you eat works together and matters.

I’ve been wet shaving all my life. Though I just called it “shaving”, and didn’t know there was any other way. Started as most do: Barbasol and a Mach 3. And I hated shaving. I’d go with a week of growth frequently. Shaving was something to be done as quickly as possible, a necessity of the male persuasion unworthy of thought. Then I discovered double-edge razors and have never looked back. A review of the scents from left to right follows: * Sandalwood: My first. Your first. When you hear about or are recommended TOBS, Sandalwood is almost always mentioned. As it’s name implies, it possesses a strong sandalwood scent which cannot be described. If you’ve smelled the wood, then you know. I won’t mess with a winning formula—if you can only get one, get Sandalwood and decide for yourself. * Tobacco Leaf: As an infrequent cigar and pipe smoker I was eager to try this. The smell of tobacco leaves is so unique, but is not present in large amounts here. Still pleased, as it’s best described as earthy smells which fellow smokers will love. If you’re thinking of cigarettes or an ashtray, get those obscene thoughts out of your head. Mild, mellow, and earthy. * Royal Forest: When I think of a forest, I don’t typically think of an apple orchard. Strongest scent here is Apple, and green/Granny Smith if I had to hazard a guess. Still slightly earthy, but “brighter” than Tobacco Leaf. Refreshing, crisp apple. * Rose: Some will ignore this and sorely miss out. My favorite scent bar none. If you’ve walked by rose bushes from afar and smelled the slight aroma as bees pollinate on a crisp spring morning you know the scent. The scent is slight. Some may enjoy that and not want to be buffeted by overpowering scents. Be forewarned though that some cannot smell it: one person I’ve asked said try as they might they get nothing but clean soap smell. In an environment of post-Covid anosmia, if you’ve trouble discerning scents you may have to skip it. Look to more powerful scents: Sandalwood or Cedarwood. * Peppermint: I’m a fan of a mentholated shave, especially in warmer months. I’ll go 100% cold some days, finishing with a mentholated rub. This is not like that. Don’t worry if you can’t take the cold, this is cool only. Focus on the peppermint. It smells like candy canes and is slightly cool only, making for a pleasant refreshing shave. Some have said it’s not strong enough. I believe they have expectations coming from highly mentholated creams or aftershaves. A solid player in the lineup for warmer months. * Cedarwood: Strong cedar scent, but still less strong than Sandalwood. Love refreshing wood smells, they’re really great for guys and give a great experience when lathering under the nose. * Eton College: Think citrus. Bright and smelling of citrus fruit. Scent is medium bodied. I cannot discern one specific type of citrus fruit. It’s not orange exactly, but also isn’t lemon or lime. It is, however, refreshing. * Platinum: I wanted to love this. Alas, it has no real scent to speak of other than clean or soapy. It’s claim to fame is it’s slickness, and I agree it does lather up to be slicker than the aforementioned, but only just. Combine that with a very mild scent with no discerning qualities and those looking for something out of the ordinary should look elsewhere. It is much softer than any of the other scents. It’s an ok soap on par with the rest, but not enough to justify $25+, when as of this writing many can be had for $17. You are in this case paying extra and getting nothing. And trust me that wasn’t a fun realization, knowing I’d just spent more on a cream that I personally like less than all the others. Part of the fun of this all is trying new things. New creams, preshaves, soaps, brushes, razors, razor blades, techniques, and aftershaves make for an infinite number of shaves. I haven’t mentioned latherability, and that’s because they’re all great. Load a brush conservatively and 150g will last a long time. Scents don’t linger very long, giving way to the aftershave’s scent and not intruding.

They hit the nail on the head with this one - the scent, lather, and beard lubrication are unequaled and I've tried just about all of the really expensive ones (and a few cheap ones) out there. Good balance of all the positives. Reason it doesn't get 5 stars is the condition it arrives in when shipped. I've ordered some 8 tubs of TOBS stuff and it always seems to have spilled out of the container, or the nice tub has been strapped closed with 3M packing tape which totally ruins the perception that this is a high end product. By this I am led to believe that these are being shipped through a middleman who perhaps is working out of his kitchen in Jersey, and is too excited about having his own home business taking orders from Amazon than building a reputation of quality customer service. But the joke's on me... no local retailers sell it in my area, so I will continue to try different sellers until I find one who can keep the product in good condition until it reaches my door. No sour grapes here...it is just shaving cream after all, and the fact that we all live like kings relative to most people is reason enough to be thankful every day.

Creamy, luxurious, and with a most pleasant scent, this is the best shave cream I've ever used. My razor glides effortlessly over my face, even when I shave against the grain on a second pass. I use a DE razor, and this cream and razor combination give a wonderful shave.

This soap is everything I would want in a shaving soap. Nice and creamy, lathers up to an incredible lubricating lather using a very tiny amount, and smelling great. I’m surprised how little I need on the shaving brush to get a thick slippery lather, so a little goes a long way! This shave soap makes the razor glide smooth and cut effectively. I use a safety razor and the combination of shaving soap and razor gives me the best shave, with no nicks, cuts, or irritation.

I love Taylor of Old Bond Street Products. They are on the pricey side, but a tub of this will easily last you half a year. I used about a almond sized shape of cream and lather it up for a minute using a good brush and it creates more lather than you need. The smell is refreshing but not over powering. I have also use the sandlewood cream before and I like that smell as well, but it is not as refreshing as this. The scent of this has more of a citrus smell, but still calssy and masculine, I wish it lasted longer but it only lasts through the shave and then for 10 minutes after. I want to try a few more scents before I settle on one, but these last a long time. So for the time being I will say that this is my favorite scent. When you think about the price comapred to the garbage found at the art of shaving, this is a bargain as you get more, better quality, and all from a company that has done this for over a century. I wanted to buy the matching aftershave and cologne but it is simply to expensive for me. Those are about $30 each. For now I will stick with the shaving cream. My only gripe is that they don't sell this is a travel size as the tub is too large to travel with. They have the travel size for the sandlewood scent, but not for this and if they do I haven't been able to find it yet on amazon.

Dentro de los productos TOBS (Taylor of Bond Street), este en concreto, después de probar ya unos cuantos es el mejor junto con el Avocado. Todos son buenos, espuman con mucha facilidad, la cuchilla se desliza super bien y para el mí el post afeitado es correcto (hay otros mejores) pero cumple. Si quieres empezar a probar la gama TOBS, este es un buen comienzo. Si aprovechas alguna oferta, no salen tan caros. Los botes de 150 duran mucho.

Excellent lather with lovely scent

Tiene un olor esquisto, una pequeña porción es suficiente para un rasurado, la textura varía con relación a la cantidad de agua que se le agrega, un bote me dura aproximadamente 8-10 meses (tengo como 3 años usándola) y por supuesto que protege la piel del rasurado de una manera increíble.
