I was warned ahead of time from the seller that there may be a funky smell to the item when opened and to put in the garage a day or so to air out. It did indeed have an smell that went away after a day or two. The quality is good, the colors are vibrant, I have not tested but it does feel like it would repel water if something were to be spilled on it. it comes with an adjustable strap which is nice because my 8 yr old is tiny. The overall bag had enough room for my 8yr old to put her school laptop, charger and Bluetooth headphones. My only compliant is that while there are handle to carry (in addition to the adjustable strap) the handles are inside the bag, so if you want to carry by the small handles you have to leave your bag unzipped otherwise you can only carry by the strap. There have been several occasions where small handles on the outside of the zipper would have been nice.
