The Keto for Two Cookbook: 100 Delicious, Keto-Friendly Recipes Just for Two!

Conveniently portioned and (mostly) easy to follow recipes great for those just starting out in Keto
This is one of my longer reviews, so I'll just put a summary at the top and you can keep reading if you have the patience. This is a great book for Keto beginners. If you are on the fence, just buy it! You can always upgrade to a fancier one later on, but this one will get you going and make starting a Keto diet a much easier process than most of the other cookbooks. There are yummy recipes in here that I would put on my regular rotation even if I wasn't on the Keto diet. The food is frequently quite good and the way the recipes have the ratios generally pretty well laid out for Keto as well as every meal being sized for two means you can plan out your first few weeks of meals without putting too much thought into it (which is really helpful during that first week or two of the "Keto Flu"). I spent the first two months cooking for just 1 (me!) and it was easy to just cut the recipes in half and adjust pan size and cooking time accordingly. With everything going on in my life, if it hadn't been for this particular book, I'm not sure how well things would have gone. But now it's been a few months and I've lost 25 pounds and I'm still going strong! Highly recommended!Full review:This has been an adventure. I've been unhappy with my weight for some time now, and when my wife jumped into a managed diet plan, I decided to go on my own journey in parallel. I'm familiar with the Adkins diet, and after some research I decided to start off with the more rigid Keto plan and then gradually ease off into a stage four (slightly higher carbohydrate) Adkins diet once I reached my target weight. As of yesterday I have managed to make my way through every recipe in the this cookbook, so I figured I would jot down a review.I tend to ramble, so I'll break my review down into a few key items:Getting into Keto! First off, if you are used to relatively high carb and low fat foods, your digestive system is going to be in for a surprise, as the Keto diet gets most of it's calories from fats. When you first switch over, your body is probably not producing enough enzymes to break down the fat, so you may not want to plan a vacation or anything else too far from home for the first week or so. Your body will adjust over time (It took me a week or two before I was firing on all cylinders again) and there are also over the counter pills you can take to assist in the transition. I ordered some, but by the time they arrived I had already mostly adapted and didn't need them. Also, the food can taste "heavier" than what you are used to, but I found that I got used to that as well after a couple of weeks. My recommendation: Insure you choose recipes in the book with plenty of greens when you first get started to make the transition feel easier. The book as some wonderful and very tasty salads and "zoodle" dishes of all kinds and I wish I had started off with those, as it would have been easier. I chose some starting recipes that were less than ideal. I recommend, for example, that you not start with the coconut yogurt. Even after I had adjusted somewhat, I still had trouble with that one.For those who don't cook much: Quite a few of these are very easy recipes and you really only need basic cooking skills for most of them. The biggest exception would be the butterscotch. The recipe provides rather vague instructions for this one, but it's actually VERY important not boil down the heavy cream to much and to very carefully mix the egg yokes so that you don't overcook them. Go watch some videos online before you try that one (pay careful attention to how they incorporate the eggs). You will likely find yourself spending more time in the kitchen preparing food once you start this diet. But the generally simple recipes combined with the portion sizes that were always for two made this a lot easier. If there are two of you, all the better as you can follow them as is. As my wife has not yet switched to my diet, I'm cooking for one. But all I had to do was cut measurements in half (which became second nature after awhile) and use smaller cooking pans and a little less time baking. Things came out fine. The Book Intro:This is worth mentioning: The writer is a Nutritionist and the forward she provides in the book is fantastic and provides a great easy read coverage of how and why Keto works. I did a lot of online research before getting into the diet and I also ordered five other highly rated Keto cookbooks, all of which had forwards that also attempted to cover the basics of Keto, but this is by far my favorite. I wish everyone interested in Keto could read it.The food:Because the writer is a nutritionist, this also means this cookbook is a little different than one written by a professional chef. The recipes tend to prioritize the proper rations of fat/carb/proteins but may not be quite as elegant or always flavor focused as some other books. But those other books with fancier recipes are going to be more work and not nearly as convenient for two people. You can always migrate to them once you get comfortable with the Keto diet in general. That's not to say they aren't good. There are a lot of great recipes and I've had some seriously delicious food from this book. Example: The Zucchini Chicken Alfredo and Kale Salmon Salad were both delicious! And I don't even like kale (or didn't?)... Also, the book makes frequent use of "zoodles", which I had never heard of but now love. Definitely grab a Zoodle maker (hand crank is fine) they are pretty cheap and easy to use (worth it!). Look them up if you are curious. Another thing here: When I first got into the diet, the first few recipes I tried seemed like they were mostly cheese and meat, and I was wondering if I would still be able to have veggies. But after getting into more of the recipes, I found that I was buying and eating more healthy greens that I ever had before. So despite how it may sound, this diet isn't all just fat. There's a lot of tasty and healthy stuff in here. The only area I felt the book was a little week in was the desserts. I was not entirely surprised, as Keto means no (or very little) real sugar or flour can be used, but I was still pretty disappointed with the results. There were a couple of recipes that I liked, but mostly I'll be avoiding the dessert section. If you are the kind of person who desperately needs your regular fill of dessert food, you might want to pick up a book that specializes in Keto desserts (If you enjoy baking, try "Keto Baking" by Carolyn Ketchum, which is like the ultimate baking book and has a lot of good desserts). But I didn't buy this book for the dessert section. The rest of the content more than makes up for this issue.Anyway, I'll stop there as I think this is already too long, but in summary, I love this book, I'm glad I started my diet with it, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice easy to use and follow set of Keto recipes.

Really Good, Tasty Recipes
Started Keto so I borrowed cookbooks from the library. This one was the best for my needs. First off, it's for 2. Next, I found it had the easiest recipes with the least ingredients. So far, everything we have made from this cookbook has been really good; some recipes are on their 2nd or 3rd go around! Highly recommend this cookbook.

An honest review from someone who has tried all recipes with less than 10gms carbs per serving
I have made all the recipes that are 10 gms or less carbs than per serving. That because I eat more than OMAD .Some of them weequite filling , others had to be supplemented wit fillers. There were quite a few with so many total carbsper serving that it would have been difficult to include as part of a keto diet. Even if it was on OMAd plan .The introduction was excellent and the Ketogenic Lifestyle chapter was well explained. Breakfasts and side dishes recipes can fit into a full KetoDiet plan , while those in the vegetarian main dishes, soups and salads, and desserts could have been better selected. All in all a good Keto book .(Best recipe in the pic)

Easy way into keto
Great book to get started. Good intro and explanation of Keto and how it works. Almost all recipes have a picture and they are all simple. Of course be mindful that you will have to adjust your ingredients if going on keto diet but those you can all get them from amazon :-)

Good but not the best on the market!
A good cook book for ideas and to use alongside others, and some tasty dishes but not the best on the market and not that many recipes compared to other books.
