Review: Helped with brainstorming design methods - I used this for my design class in college. Provided perfect methods for design. Review: Excellent toolkit for creative problem solving. - As a working design consultant I have had to develop many methods for problem solving, consensus building, and brand definition on my own. Imagine my delight at finding a tool set that is more expansive, clearly articulated and contains good examples. I have a few minor peeves- the text type is too thin and too gray for a technical publication, and the authors occasionally lapse into consultant-speak rather than English that clarifies meaning. Still, the content and organization are worthy of 5 stars. Every creative professional should be using this excellent toolkit.

Wait? How many methods? Wow!
Excellent book! A great design reference tool, but not really a cover to cover read! The book details what phase a method might be more useful in and also offers a full page of text to describe each method and another page of full color visuals (images, graphs, diagrams, etc). To learn more of a detailed explanation of each method, you might have to find a second source, but this is great for a quick rundown. The methods aren’t obviously specific to UXR or UXD and there were some less common methods that were included which I appreciated. The book is excellent quality as well!

It's a solid intro to each activity.
I like how clear all the descriptions of every research method are, and reasons why you would want to use each one. You can find this info online but it's not so easy to get it all in one place, and it usually isn't written as well as this book is. I'm finding it a reassuring addition to the materials they give us in my UX bootcamp.

Insightful
I used the first version of this text to design our first two houses. I'm not a designer or builder but a practitioner. I plan homes to suit our family and business. This is an indispensable and comprehensive review of basic design principles to help shape spaces that work for everyone, regardless of disability or ability. If you're a decorator, designer, or builder - or just curious about what makes a house sing - you'll want to get a copy.

Not legible to read without huge glasses or without magnifying glass.
A book that treat design methods should be designed with legible fonts. Reading this is a great strain on the eyes. Huge no no, but it was probably a lot of work to put together.

Great to expand your toolkit
As a UX Researcher and someone who still loves physical books/resources, I'd been eyeing this book for a while but couldn't find it at a reasonable price in Aus. Interestingly it covers more methods that I didn't know/had not applied myself so it's great if you're wanting to expand your toolkit. There's two pages for each of the 125 methods and includes either a diagram, photo/s. I love for each method they indicate whether it's: - behavioural or attitudinal - quantitative or qualitative - innovate, adapted or traditional - Exploratory, generative or evaluative - Participatory, observational, self-reporting, expert review or design process I think it would useful if you're studying or already working :)

Very complete but wished more “how to”
The book is really interesting and highly recommended for researchers in design. 4 stars since it can be short in the “how to” part, to be able to try it out and it is more focused on informing about the methods, than a step by step how to use them in practice. Great collection of methods, but several of them you just get no clue how to try them unless you do further reading of other sources
