Varathane 211775H Premium Wood Conditioner, Quart

Worked very well! I purchased to use on birch plywood and hopefully avoid splotching of the stain. It worked great! Easy to apply. Dries quickly and 30 minutes later I applied a gel stain to the treated plywood. It turned out great!

This was the first time I took the time to condition the wood before staining and this was great. Easy to use, and made my countertop stain look amazing! I will be using this now for every stain project I have! Quick delivery and great price.

This item is hard to find in stores in California, specifically from this brand. This was used for a woodstain wash on a staircase handrail that was painted white by the previous owners. We tried to stain the wood without it after sanding the rail and it did not work out well. This made the difference and the color applied so much better. I never stained wood before so this is coming from someone with zero experienc. It came out looking professional. It is easy to apply. We saved ourselves hundreds in updating our outdated handrail.

In my experience this works way better than the Minwax one. After application it has provided even staining. Of course for both conditioning and staining do outside or in a extremely well ventilated area. I have found best results using a foam brush applicator for both this conditioner and stain. And use an old t-shirt to wipe off the stain.

I tackled my project without this and it was a blotchy mess. I totally stripped the wood again and applied this conditioner which made everything perfect. 100% better, the difference between failure and success.

Great Product! After trying two other wood conditioners, a sanding sealer, a shellac and denatured alcohol mix, and a lacquer and lacquer thinner mix, I've found this to be the best product as it has consistent, beautiful, even finish results which, in my opinion, shows off the wood and grainon my new Eastern White Pine floors the best they can be. It allows the stain to penetrate with just enough color and keeps the wood fromblotching. It also allows for a longer window of time to stain after applying. I am not getting paid to say this! I've spent about 3 weeks (and a lot of money) trying to get these floors right, and I'm trying spare someone else from going to all the expense and trouble I've gone through. I am doing a lot of remolding and DIY in my home and this wood conditioner works as it should. I think it is worth the price.
