A must read!
I had paperwork. I had patients. In the moments in between, I read and read, ate reading, went to bed late reading and finally finished reading this fast paced, riveting, extraordinary book, in about 7 hours. It is a must read for mothers, police officers, lawyers and judges. It is educational and pretty accurate description of what takes place when murder is committed.I was a police psychologist and I wasn’t able to predict the ending or figure out the incredible twists and turns the book would take, except for a few of them and only after I went off in thought, not consciously at first, but then concretely. It’s very hard to profile or get into the minds of all of the people in the well-thought out trajectory of events. One thing stands out and is certain, you must put in order plans to start and finish this book at the pace it takes to turn the pages, because you won’t want to do much else while it has you in its grasp!!5 stars for the writing and development of every aspect of this book and each of its characters!!PBR

The ending was just perfect for this story!
Read for Fun(Gift from the Spring Book Exchange)Challenges: Mystery/Thriller, Read for FunOverall Rating: 4.25Story Rating: 4.50Character Rating: 4.00First Thought when Finished: The ending was just perfect for this story! What I Loved: Who do you love more? That was the question asked in the beginning by the killer and factored into every decision made by one of the victims. Usually it is the lead characters that are the most compelling but in this case it was the victim(s) (sorry for being general I just don't want to give anything away). What extreme would you go to for someone you loved? Could you choose if you had to? What if you found out your life was even more different than you imagined? What if all of that came to a head of having to choose who you loved more? That is where the story begins and the journey of the victim is amazingly heartbreaking, crazy, and thrilling! What I Liked: This is my first DD Warren read so I had no connection to her BUT I loved her gumption. She was tough as nails and I liked the way her mind worked. I will go back and read the first four in the series. She was the perfect detective for this case because she had an "assume nothing" rule. She is also highly perceptive and even occasionally wrong. I find something authentic in authors who write characters that are flawed and make mistakes. It makes me believe the outcome so much more!Final Thoughts: This was a great "track down the killer" type of read! I knocked it out in just one day.

Awesome book
This book has so many twists and turns I couldn’t figure out where it was going. It kept me turning pages late into the night. I’ll be reading more from Lisa Gardner!

Fantastic book!
One of the best books ever! Written in such a unique way. Present then bits of the past that relate and then again. Had trouble putting the book down.

A mothers love, inspiration at its peak!
A perfect family, a beautiful little girl. What happened to them to turn the family inside out and send this mother on a killing spree!

Nearly as good as Michael Connelly
I'm reading this series in order, and I think this is the best so far. DD Warren becomes a more sympathetic character while still having major issues with empathy, especially with regard to female suspects/victims.It's another case involving a mother and child, which I have to say I thought was in danger of becoming a bit too much like some of the previous books. But Gardner is very good at the parent /child relationship. In this story the case involved a female cop in trouble and her situation gets increasingly desperate, which ramps up the tension right up until the end. Again, Gardner tells much of the story in the voice of the woman at the centre of the case, and it's skilfully done, as she manages to make it compelling and believable while keeping enough of the woman's story from us to keep us guessing on major plot points. It's thrilling, funny in places and it keeps you guessing . This is becoming perhaps the best cop series I have read apart from Harry Bosch .

When I tell my wife "I love you" she tells me "I love you more!"
Throughout most of the reading, my eyes teared up. It was almost impossible to stop reading and I was done reading the book in 3 days inspite of a lot of chores I had to do!
