## Overview

The Hilleberg Kaitum 3 is a premium mountaineering tent designed for three people, featuring an ultra-lightweight structure and super strong materials, making it ideal for extreme weather conditions. Its spacious interior and easy setup ensure a comfortable and efficient camping experience.

## Description

The Kaitum is essentially the Ultralight version of the Keron, but with a bit more width and quite a bit less weight. It is ideal for trips where light weight is a higher priority than total strength, but where true all-season, all-weather capability is still a requirement, and where extra comfort is important. The secret of the Kaitum is its combination of the Kerlon 1200 outer tent fabric and 9 mm poles – which keeps the weight to a minimum without sacrificing all-condition strength – and its two door/two vestibule design, which affords its tremendous degree of comfort and flexibility. The Kaitum’s Tunnel Tent design and ultra light weight make it ideal for mobile adventures, where you move your camp every day, and it is equally well-suited for both long and short adventures. Outstanding for use in protected terrain any time, the Kaitum is also easily stout enough to handle forays in exposed and/or above tree-line terrain in all but the worst conditions.

Review: you will not be disappointed. - Wow, what a tent. Sets up in a flash, very roomy for two 6' tall people. Lots of length for tall campers.Im 6'2", lots of leg room. Appears bulletproof. Vestibules on both sides, allows two campers to avoid tripping over the others gear. Both campers get their own exit and their own vestibule. Bought with the footprint. I must admit that standard floor is quite thick and appears durable. Will likely only use footprint when car camping. It rained heavily the morning of moving camp. I removed the inner (yellow) tent (which was bone dry) and packed it away before taking down the wet outer (rainfly portion) tent. The inner remained completely dry during this process. After moving camp, I just set up the outer (wet) tent at the new site, then re hung the dry inner tent inside and had a dry tent to sleep in. Wet rainfly stayed wet, Dry inner remained dry. All the other guys inner tents got wet when they took down their rainfly to get at their poles. My inner tent remained dry. This could not be done with any other tent I know of - competing tents all appear to first require removal of the "rainfly" to take down the inner tent - The inner tent then gets wet (often soaked) in the process of moving camp in the rain. Not so with this tent. Had a lot off wet friends in camp whose inner tents got soaked. Not the lightest tent for its size, but its strength to weight ratio is incredibly impressive. Light weight without being vulnerable or delicate. Incredibly well thought out construction and design. Incredibly well made in an age of planned obsolescence and "throw away" ultralight technology. I suspect competitors would decrease the number of guy lines and pegs, use a lot thinner fabric, and substantially decrease the zipper sizes to achieve a "lighter" product. You could probably drop a pound or more this way, but would make the tent less stable, less durable, and less reliable. This is the Mercedes Benz of tents, and if you buy one, you will not be disappointed.
Review: One of the most spacious, strong, and easy-to-pitch tents in this weight category - PROS: — Very large internal space, can accommodate 4 people in need — Two large vestibules — Strong 4-season design and very versatile ventilation — Numerous setup options — Very fast, easy, and “gloves-friendly” pitching for single person on most surfaces — Excellent quality, most elements are well designed — Strong fabrics — Light weight for such size and strength CONS: — More difficult pitching on rock and snow than usual — Inner height is slightly lower than average — Inner tent zippers require careful operation — Older style “loud” zipper pulls and non-reflective guylines — Huge packed size I think that the tent price is fair and it reflects its qualities. Of course, it is well above the psychological barrier for most potential buyers. On the other hand, the most of your money is invested into the best available fabric and poles which reduce the weight without compromising the strength and durability. The rest of money goes to complicated and well-thought tent design which makes it strong and very easy to use. The hard truth: all high-quality tents in this category are expensive, but you will get what you pay for. I would recommend this tent to anyone who can afford it and who can live without the freestanding ability.
