Question 1

Why ours?

Accepted Answer

We invented the waterless wash in 1987, and the method. A Damp Towel is not thirsty, so dirt stays wet into the towel. A dry towel dries the solution and leaves the dirt dry, then drags it. Dry dirt can scratch. Most products skip the Damp Towel.

Question 2

Can't I just use a Damp Towel with any waterless wash?

Accepted Answer

A Damp Towel helps with any waterless wash, but the formula has to survive it. Wash Wax ALL encapsulates the dirt and stays lubricated while a Damp Towel picks it up. Others may not be formulated for that step. Wash Wax ALL is.

Question 3

Why is the damp towel step necessary? What does it do that a dry towel cannot?

Accepted Answer

Yes, just a simple side-to-side wipe. No rolling or single-direction technique is required, unlike some other waterless washes.

Question 4

What is the biggest mistake people make when using the damp towel method?

Accepted Answer

Not wringing it out enough. Give it a good tight wring. You want damp, never dripping wet. A saturated towel has no room left to take the dirt. Damp still has room to absorb.

Question 5

How do you dampen the towel?

Accepted Answer

Wet it under running water or dip in a bucket of clean water, then wring out. Plain water is all you need. Dipping in Wash Wax ALL works too, but isn't necessary.

Question 6

Does it matter which direction you wipe, side to side, up and down, or circular?

Accepted Answer

No special technique needed. We recommend side to side wiping for efficiency. It covers an area faster. Skip the one direction or towel rolling techniques other waterless washes recommend. They are not necessary and a complete waste of your time.

Question 7

Why do some products tell you to wipe in one direction while rolling the towel?

Accepted Answer

They're trying to reduce scratching from dry dirt being dragged across the finish. Those techniques don't make up for skipping the Damp Towel, and they can still scratch. That's why they say their product is only for light dust.

Question 8

Can I just spray the towel with Wash Wax ALL instead of wetting it?

Accepted Answer

You can, but it takes about 30 pumps on each side to get the towel properly damp. That wastes product and slows you down. Clean water gets you there in seconds.

Question 9

Can I keep rinsing my towel in a bucket and wringing it out as I go?

Accepted Answer

No. Never dip a dirty towel back into the water. The dirt stays in the bucket and ends up back on your paint. Only dip into clean, fresh water. Once you've used every clean side, set the towel aside for laundry and grab a new one.

Question 10

Does the damp towel method work differently on a hot surface, like a car warm from the sun or driving?

Accepted Answer

Yes, on hot surfaces, whether from sun or driving, the damp towel cools it and controls temperature, giving more time to dry before the product dries on its own. Skip it, and it can flash dry faster than you can dry it.

Question 11

What is the folding technique, and how many clean sides does one towel give you?

Accepted Answer

Fold the towel in half twice into a square for 4 clean sides. Unfold and refold the other way for 8 total. Flip to a new side as one gets dirty. No wasted towels, just a quick new clean side each time.

Question 12

Do I always have to use a damp towel?

Accepted Answer

When in doubt, use a Damp Towel. You can get away with spray and wipe dry for very light dust or fingerprints, but we recommend sticking with the Damp Towel every time.

Question 13

Is there a minimum number of towels I should have on hand for a full wash?

Accepted Answer

We recommend at least 4 to 6, though more is better. Too many towels beats not enough. How many you need depends on the size of the car and how dirty it is.

Question 14

Should you work on the whole car at once, or one section at a time?

Accepted Answer

One area at a time, no larger than about 4 by 4 feet, so you can dry it before it dries on its own: half a hood, then the other half; a fender; a door; a quarter panel; half a deck lid, then the other half.

Question 15

How do you know when to switch to a new section of the towel?

Accepted Answer

Our towels are lightly colored, so dirt buildup is easy to see. As soon as a side starts looking dirty, flip or unfold to a clean side. Avoid dark or gray towels. Dirt blends in, making it harder to know when to switch.
