Genuinely surprised this particular model is still being produced considering Thomas and the Magic Railroad came out 20 years ago now. But regardless still a high quality model and SO much better than the models available here in the US. Tomy knows how to make model trains. It is a little hard to get to the battery compartment but just like most other Thomas models, just squeeze by the tabs and pull up.Note: it says that a C battery is needed however it is more of a counter weight since the motor is heavy. However a regular AA battery will do the job perfectly.
