Great Holster
I really like these ALS holsters, never had any issues with them. I read some reviews describing a tight fit, but you just have to spend a little time to break it in and it works as intended.

Nice Sidearm Holster System
Purchased this for a gen 1 S&W 9mm and it fits perfectly. The lock keeps it securely in place and functions smoothly. I ended swapping out the hip paddle for the quick-connect system to swap between holsters and I love it. With the clip system (sold separately) you can adjust the angle of the holster to best suit your draw. Some other frames will fit but it's best to use the model search to find the appropriate holster for your equipment.

Give It Some Time
When the holster first arrived, I was actually really frustrated. My Sig P229 Pro seemed to not fit at all without force. I ended up reading a few reviews online and found that you need to work this holster in a bit. To my surprise, that advice was right. The holster is now pretty much perfect.

Great holster but one fatal flaw
I love this holster, it fits my glock 19 with a x300u perfectly. The only thing I don’t like is how exposed the trigger guard is. If I took this holster on patrol someone could stick a finger in and pull the trigger so I just use it at the range. Great holster other than that

Great holster.
Let me start off by saying I purchased this holster for my Glock 22 (Gen 4) with a Streamlight TLR-1HL and Trijicon HD’s, however I previously purchased this same model holster for my H&K USP .40I used it extensively on my USP for about 6 months or more before I traded it for my current Glock 22 and in the time I had it was great. The thumb safety is simple but effective. It’s not overly complicated to use but you do have to train to get it just right. It may not be a level 3 retention holster but make no mistake, you’re going to have a hard time trying to pull the weapon out if you do not engage the thumb latch. I’m not saying its impossible but I tried it so you don’t have to and it wont budge. This not trashing level 3 holsters for duty use because they certainly have their place for a variety of reasons, I’m just under the firm belief that all holsters should offer some form of retention and this is a great simple yet effective way of doing that. Also, once you break it in your weapon will slip into the holster easly with minimal downward pressure needed to be applied, which cant be said for holsters without any mechanical retention because they require a great deal of force to not only insert the gun but to remove it as well which is another reason why I would never recommend one for duty use or even carry. The holster does take some training to learn to draw effectively, if you pull then engage the latch the firearm will actually not draw and it will remain locked. This is I assume to help protect against someone trying to steal your weapon from his holster by pulling. You must first engage the thumb latch then pull and it will slide out with ease. Similar to a seat belt when your depressing the brake of your car, you must first disengage the brake for the belt to extend. Same thing pretty much! This might sound problematic for some but once you get used to the motion and hand movement of engaging that thumb latch first you won’t ever have issues of the holster locking up on you due to improper draw technique. Bottom line, this is a great holster with a great price and I cannot recommend it enough.

Almost returned it
Why was I thinking of returning it? It was very tight initially, which I wasn't expecting. I have other Safariland holsters, both ALS and GLS, which fitted perfectly out of box. The difference here is the lining. My others have no lining at all but this holster has a suede lining, which made the fit tight. The ALS thumb lever was shorter than usual with less leverage, making it stiffer. The suede does compress and break in with time and practice draws and the thumb lever does loosen up, so have patience. While breaking it in could be mitigated by making the holster slightly oversize, it doesn't really take too much time. Once broken in, you'll be happy with the usual Safariland quality.

Don't loose your sidearm in the field!
Bought this holster for a friend - a hunter who carries a S&W M&P9 "1st generation" full size model in cal. 9 mm Luger as a secondary gun in the field - to return a favor to him. The ALS system is extremely intuitive, quick and secure. When the pistol is put into the holster, the ALS (which stands for Automatic Locking System) goes "click" and eliminate any worries about loosing the pistol in the field. Don't laugh and push it aside as something that could never happen. I personally heard the sad story told by an older hunter who used a conventional leather belt holster to loose his revolver out in the field, which was a stainless steel S&W M66 Combat Magnum. It was dawn when it happened and the "shiny" finish of his revolver didn't help one bit to locate it in the dense brush. It was a embarrassing situation he found himself in having to inform the authorities about such a loss. Luckily for him, another hunter recovered this revolver a number of weeks later by pure coincidence and turned the gun in, so in the end all was all good when he got his gun back. He must have had quite a few sleepless nights, because loosing a loaded weapon, with the added risk that it might be found by someone of dubious character that has not the very best intentions, is something very disturbing. If he had used a Safariland ALS holster to begin with, he wouldn't have to go through all that! That said, my buddy is very happy with the 6378 ALS and commented favorably on this particular gift. One thing not often mentioned is that the 6378, which is officially the paddle version of this type of holster, also comes with a set that includes the 567BL belt loop that fits 1.5 and 1.75 Inch wide belts and a set of screws to replace the paddle, for those folks who prefer to attach the holster onto a belt. From what I've seen - and I bought more than one 6378 ALS - that useful extra belt loop is included to all 6378s as standard feature. If you prefer to have a belt-mounted holster and are tired of long waiting time, simply get yourself the 6378 ALS and just swap out the paddle against the belt loop setup included in the package. So, you have easily converted the 6378 ALS paddle holster to a 6377 ALS belt holster without having to buy anything extra. The 567BL belt loop allows for a radical FBI cant, a more moderate forward cant and a straight drop position of the holster on the belt - whatever the carrier prefers for ease of drawing or concealed cover garment. In fact, with other Safariland belt attachment accessories you can mount the pistol depending on preferance or mission. Of course, any of these items have to be bought in separately, but it illustrates how flexible this particular holster system can be.Last comment: This particular holster does fit both the first generation M&P9/40 full size as well as the newer M2.0 version without Problems. We have also tried a full size M&P9 M2.0 in it and it went in with a "click" when the ALS engaged on the ejection port, like it had with my buddy's older M&P9 first gen pistol. The Safariland #6377/6378 ALS type of holsters are highly recommended!

Top product!
Any way you cut it, the Safariland 6378 ALS paddle Holster is one of the best for any type of field use, open carry - or if you have to put on and take off your firearm quickly. It works beautifully with the compact Glock 19 (or Glock 23, for that matter), which is one of the most popular carry pistols around. The paddle is removable, and the holster also includes a belt loop with a set of screws, so you can use the holster for attachment onto a conventional belt, if you prefer that. The belt loop fits belts from 1.5" to 1.75" in width. I haven't tried it but it might be possible to mount the holster body to other mounting options offered separately by Safariland. The ALS - Automatic Locking System - is secure and extremely intuitive. With some dedicated training, it is possible to draw as fast as if no Level I Retention was there in the first place. If I would carry a pistol in an open top holster into the field, I would at least choose the ALS for improved weapon retention. An uninitiated individual would probably have trouble to snatch the pistol because the ALS Lever is pretty unobtrusive, hard to see and difficult to disengage - except for the carrier.I highly recommend this holster for the G19/23.

Great holster.
Where do I start with this holster? What a fantastic product. I use a similar Safariland model but with type 3 retention for a service pistol which takes a beating daily and has served me well. This mode is of the same quality but without the SLS hood and shield.I decided to go with the type 2 ALS only model for my M&P 2.0 and I’m glad I did. The SLS model doesn’t really have a significant impact on your draw speed, but does add quite a bit of bulk to the holster. This model is likely as fast as a OWB/IWB holster with no retention features, but adds the peace of mind of an ALS if things go south or if you need to get physical. The customizable-angle belt retention rig makes finding that comfortable angle easy and the optional paddle (which comes pre-installed) would be a great option for range or possibly plain clothes officers. While this holster might not have the concealability of some other holsters, I’m willing to trade guaranteed retention for a slightly lower-profile option. All of the components are of high quality material, right down to the screws. One thing I would have liked to see would have been multiple tiers of angle options to allow adjustment for height of carry.Nevertheless, great product.

Smooth as butter
This holster is amazing. I use it with a Glock 31, and it fits it perfectly even though it's not directly advertised for it. I love the ALS system. When I lived in the US I carried concealed with a permit, but of course that's not an option in Canada -- but from having the experience, I will say that if I was going to actually use this for concealed carry in every day life, I'd get the model that is basically the same thing but has the flip-up level 3 retention for extra security.Smooth, clean and relatively quiet draw every time, like butter as the headline says. The internal lining keeps my gun in pristine condition (I can be a bit OCD about that). Lots of different options with angles and belt fittings. You may not be guaranteed to like it as much as I do, but I seriously doubt anyone could have regrets about buying it.
