this lock will work great , it doesnt lock if you turn key 1/4 turn to the right and then back to the left until key can be removed, turn a full turn to the right and it will lock. this should be in instructions with the lock. so people can know that when they close their roll top it doesnt have to lock all the time.

I used this desk lock and keys to repair the broken lock on my desk. It was perfect for the job.

To say I am thrilled is an understatement. Eagle Craft Rolltop, lock and key fit perfectly into existing holes, striker plate needed some fine tuning.Fits and looks great! Very happy!

My father bought an older, but not antique, Ashley roll top desk, but the former owner had apparently lost the key. The locking mechanism had been busted out from the desk portion, as if it had been forced open with a hammer from below. In attempting to repair it, I realized the actual top part that moves the lugs that secure the roll top to the desk strike plate could not be left in the unlock position. So every time you closed the desk, it locked. I have a larger version of the same roll top desk and my lock can be left in a locked or unlocked position with the key in or out. I searched everywhere for a lock that indicated it could be left unlocked but could not find one with that feature listed. I took a chance with this lock listing. It does secure unlocked; you can lock the latch or unlock the latch, take the key out and reopen the closed roll top. I cannot promise that every lock they send you will be like this, but the one I received was what I wanted. I have not installed the lock yet and thus cannot attest to it's long term quality, however, it appears to be well built and solid. Came with strike plate, two keys, screws and a silly lapel pin that looks like a blob with a tail, but I think it's supposed to be a key. I will update my review with photos and additional info once I install it and answer any questions in response to my review if I can. Took one star off for the price, seems somewhat high, but if it lasts, it will be worth it and I will change to 5 stars.
