The Gator ottoman storage bed opens from the side. The under bed storage is accessed from the side of the bed frame. You can choose to open from either the left or right hand side depending on where you want to place the bed in your room. This means you can place the bed against a wall and yet still access the full under-bed storage area. The Gator bed features hydraulic gas lift arms that raise the mattress base revealing huge amounts of storage space. The frame will remain upright once lifted to give you both hands free to remove or store items underneath.
