I purchased this Trtl Neck Pillow to go with the Starkio footrest I purchased several months ago for my boss (who travels at least 3 days a week on flights that are a minimum of 2 hrs long) after a client recommended that he shoudl invest in a footrest hammock. The Starkio footrest has thick cushioning and is easy to install - it's greatly improved the comfort of his flights (especially when he flies Economy - he's not a large man by any means but the leg space is so cramped!). My boss has a bad back, so the long flights take a toll on him (plus he's on his feet for 5-8 hours once he lands and sometimes drives 1-2 hrs after landing if it's an overnight trip). The Starkio footrest has significantly improved how he feels and is able to move after his trips, but lately his schedule has forced him to take longer flights, often at night, which means he ends up sleeping on the flight...which means his neck gets sore. I found this Trtl Neck Pillow and suggested he give it a try since it is a decent price and we already got an excellent deal on the Starkio footrest. He has been on 3 trips where he's used the Neck Pillow in addition to the Footrest Hammock and we all have noticed a significant improvement to his mobility when he lands and his mood in general :) I asked him how the pillow is working and he said he really likes it and is glad we found two high quality items for good deals. He says it supports his head without feeling like he's in a neck brace and he's had no issues sleeping on the flights. I noticed several reviewers commented that it was too warm so I asked him specifically about that and he (a man who insists the office be at 68 degrees) had no issues with being overheated in it. My boss has already requested I purchase more for his assistants. The takeaway of this is: If you fly frequently or are about to embark on a long journey, buy the Trtl Neck Pillow and Starkio Footrest! They are high quality items at very affordable prices; simple to use; easy to pack (even if you are just taking a day trip, like my boss often does); have excellent cushioning and stability where you need it (for neck, feet, legs, and back); are easy to clean; and although I can only vouch that the Starkio Footrest has held up over months of regular use, the Trtl Neck Pillow seems like it will hold up over time too.

I’ve used all kinds of travel pillows and this is my favorite for packing and using. It’s minimal, soft and comfortable, and works. I can even raise the fabric over my mouth to eliminate or minimize snoring. It’s only stiff on one side so if you shift the direction you want to lean your head, you must shift the pillow as well. That’s of zero significance to me as I typically lean to one specific side. It comes with a storage bag and has a slim profile for packing. The velcro closure on the bag is a bit annoying as it’s loud to open and the velcro can snag your clothes if you’re not careful. I’d much prefer a zipper closure, but am happy it comes with a bag. I recommend visiting the trtl website and looking at their prices before ordering. I found them much cheaper (but slower to deliver when shipped from them).

The “Support” Dilemma The concept is clever. You wrap it around your neck, lean into the hidden support, and drift off into blissful, ergonomic slumber. The reality? The only way this thing provides any meaningful support is if you cinch it so tightly that you start questioning your blood flow situation. At optimal “support” level, I found myself teetering between “mildly uncomfortable” and “Is this what a giraffe feels like in a turtleneck?” If you loosen it even slightly, it becomes a $60 piece of fabric wrapped around your neck for no reason at all. And if you tighten it enough to actually hold your head up, congratulations! You now have a built-in pulse-checking device because your body will let you know very quickly when your carotid artery has had enough. In-Flight Performance My hope was to finally achieve that elusive, graceful plane nap. Instead, I spent most of my flight adjusting, readjusting, and questioning my life choices as my seat neighbor side-eyed my increasingly desperate attempts to make it work. The “lean and sleep” motion they advertise? More like “lean, start losing feeling in your jaw, panic, readjust, repeat.” The Verdict For those with an iron will, a tolerance for slight oxygen deprivation, and perhaps a slimmer neck than mine, this might work. For the rest of us? Save your money and go back to the classic awkward head-tilt-against-the-window method or invest in a real neck pillow. Or better yet, just accept that air travel is inherently uncomfortable and move on. I ordered some of the top rated travel pillows on Amazon to try them out before my big trip. I am 5'1", about 118 lbs., and pretty petite so finding a travel pillow has been even more difficult than it is for "normal height" people. I've been dealing with upper back and neck instability and pain for YEARS so it was of utmost importance to find something that will allow me to sleep in both the plane and on our long drives. I compared this pillow against the J Pillow, the CABEAU, and the Original FLEXi 4-in-one and this was definitely the best for my small size. I like the design of this "pillow". While the picture makes it look kind of like a sock that you would pull over your head, it is really a hard plastic frame inside soft fleece scarf. You put the frame against your neck and little "arms" are on both the top and bottom to keep your neck upright and your head away from your shoulder. It doesn't sound comfortable but it actually is! I haven't been able to try it in the plane yet, but I fell asleep in it sitting on my couch. I didn't have any problems with my head falling forward and it felt quite supported. The fleece wraps around your neck and you can adjust how tight it is by pulling it tighter (like a scarf) and it secures with Velcro. There are helpful stickers attached to the fleece when you get it that show you what part to put against your head/shoulder, where the back of your head should go, etc. It took me one or two tries to get it right but after that it was easy. You can remove the plastic support/frame from the fleece so you can wash the fleece covering. The Velrcro doesn't really adhere to the fleece, so you don't have to worry about destroying the nice soft fleece. One of the things I like about it a lot is that ability to really wash it. So many of these travel pillows have removable covers, but you can't actually wash the pillow part itself. I had a memory foam eye mask that I loved but you couldn't wash the whole thing and it got really gross. There are always a few situations where you wake up sweaty, and just the oils from your face and/or your makeup can seep in to the foam and I can only assume nasty things happen in there. The Trtl Pillow will never have that problem as you can throw the entire fleece cover in the wash, leaving just the plastic frame behind. There is some padding in part of the fleece but it is thin enough that it should dry without any issues in the foam. I don't know if it is really supposed to be used like this, but I also tried it out as a lumbar support and it worked ok for that purpose on my couch. I also like that you don't need to be in a seat with a headrest to use it. I can use it sitting up in my dining room chairs. I imagine this will be INCREDIBLY useful the next time I have a sinus infection when I can't lay down because of too much head congestion. The one draw back of this pillow is that your head is going to be resting on one side and if you want to tilt your head to the other side you need to take the Trtl Pillow off and put it on the other side of your head. Also, I ordered the "Black" color but it is really more like a dark grey. It isn't anything near as black as it is in the pictures. That isn't really a big deal to me, but some people are very particular about the color of their purchases. Over all it is a well-designed product, the fleece is nice and cozy, you can use this in seats with and without a headrest, it is actually WASHABLE, and it is pretty compact so it wouldn't take up too much room in your luggage.

2 stars because of the price. But other than that I can truly say I have never ever been able to sleep on a plane until I swallowed the ridiculous price and tried it: it worked 100% for me. For the first time ever (in 35yrs!!) I slept for about 3 hours on my transatlantic flight home and I also did not have the usual terrible neck cramp so this greatly reduced my jet lag! It is very adjustable (although takes some time to master), soft and worked well for me. Is it worth the price though? I think it's hugely overpriced for what it is: a shawl with plastic and some Velcro. I know there are some "alternatives" and I might just try one just to compare. Anyway: your mileage might vary!

I've tried memory foam, inflatable, and husk filled donut pillows, but they 1) never reach high enough up my shoulder to rest on without my neck leaning over at a ridiculous angle and 2) they push my neck out from the back of the seat that I'm crooked and sore there too. This was getting such great reviews, I decided to give it a try. Glad I did, because it's awesome! Since you can't really tell what it feels like from the pictures and videos, I'll describe it: The fleece is VERY soft, and once you wrap it around your neck, it just feels like you're wearing a scarf or turtleneck. Once you stick it to the velcro strip on the other side, suddenly it feels like you have somebody's shoulder there that you're leaning on - even though nobody's there! It can be used on the right or left shoulder easily, and in the front if you prefer to slump forward. For those who are wondering how this thing works, the support comes from an "X" shaped structure tucked into a padded pillow case sewn into the scarf. Because the X is enclosed in this casing , the bottom of the X "tents" over your shoulder (one foot in the front, the other in the back) but neither foot is pressing into your shoulder. Instead, the weight is taken by the * fabric stretched between * these legs which "tents" comfortably over the shoulder so you don't feel pressure. Your chin rests in the fabric stretched between the two uprights at the top of the X (like a hammock). Because your shoulders are higher (especially when resting on armrests, as you would be on a plane) the Trtl is at its most supportive when used there (right or left equally so). If you prefer to slump forward, the feet of the X will not be straddling a shoulder, but rather resting on your chest. As this is my preferred sleep position, I found that all I needed to do is tuck a bit of the scarf under each foot, and I felt no pressure on my chest. No problem. And if you're wondering how much weight this thing can take, the answer is the full weight of your head. When I put it on, it feels like I'm leaning against something solid, like someone's shoulder on the side, or a donut pillow in the front, and I can relax completely. Except that it's smaller, lighter, and more pack-able than a donut, and keeps me warm on a flight (I'm always cold). Great design! Highly recommend!

I bought the TRTL Travel Pillow ahead of a recent holiday and was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked. Unlike a traditional U-shaped travel pillow, the TRTL provides firm neck support and helps keep your head in a comfortable position while sleeping. It took a little adjusting at first, but once I found the right fit, it made a noticeable difference on the flight. It’s lightweight, easy to pack, and takes up far less space than a standard travel pillow. After a long travel day and an unexpected flight delay, I was very glad to have it with me.
