Good rack. very good price. recommend purchase.
After researching a rack over a couple of weeks I decided on this rack. With a full house we ha e 6 adult bikes to transport. My wife's has a quick release and fits in the rear hatch of our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, so a 5 bike rack suits us fine. I've had the rack for about a month and have used it at least once every weekend before writing the review. As stated, I've loaded 5 adult bikes on the rack and braved the Houston freeways with no issues. I've also lowered the rack fully loaded to get into the hatch and had no issues raising it back and replacing the pin. I had help lifting it back to position with 5 bikes, but if there are 5 bikes on it there SHOULD be plenty of helping hands around. I did drop my wife off to shop and when I picked her up lowered and raised the rack by myself With Zero Difficulty. I haven't used the supplied No Wobble bolt as I had purchased a locking pin before using the rack. There is some sway without the No Wobble bolt, but that is no fault of the rack itself. I cannot say if the No Wobble bolt functions well because I have not used it. I do t want to go off into to woods and come back to a missing rack. I have purchased a locking Silent Hitch Pin and that should tighten up the rack to the hitch reciver and remedy the situation. It works fine with the locking pin, but for my own piece of mind I want to minimize the sway on long trips. It is Easy to put on and off. The Bikes fit nice and secure with the straps. I do use a Ratchet strap to further secure the bikes, again for my piece of mind. I am happy with this rack. It does the job it says it will do. I would recommend this rack.

Good Value/ Great 5-bike rack
I did some significant research and selected this to transport five bikes; two adult and three kids bikes. I recommend this pretty confidently as a great value for the money. Positives: SIMPLE: This was easy to assemble and attach (you do need a socket wrench), and easy to load with five bikes. It took me only 25 minutes to un-box, assemble, attach and mount all five bikes the first time! OPTIONS: The mounting brackets rotate on the bars so that you can mount the bikes and attach at any angle (see pictures and video). Also, you have the option to lower the bar (see picture with it tilted and our van gate open) by removing the retaining pin. This is a great feature but only practical when the bikes are not attached to the rack. DO NOT ATTEMPT when fully loaded! QUALITY: This is made of decent quality materials (Steel, aluminum, thick plastic, and strong straps). The paint isn’t powder coated, which was the only disappointment and will lead to scrapes and eventually corrosion if you use this all the time. Negatives: - Even after tightening all bolts with socket wrenches, the rack rattles and sways. I watched the bikes in the rear view and saw them obviously moving the entire trip. I don’t think it’s a serious issue, but I wish the tubes fit tighter together. I wrapped painters tape around the inside pipes To fill the voids and so far it’s heavily reduced the movement. I recommend this as a good value for families that want to transport bikes casually for vacations or weekend trips.

Great rack for the price
I like this rack a lot; it does what it's supposed to do and I didn't have to pay hundreds of dollars for a bigger name brand. Upon receiving the package there was surface damage to the rack; as if someone had already used it. Amazon customer service took care of the issue promptly. Putting the pieces together was simple and quick- just make sure you have the rack facing in the correct directions before tightening the bolts (I made that mistake and had to unbolt and re-bolt everything). Mounting it on my truck was simple and fact as well. i tried a variety of wrenches to make the tightening easier- socket wrenches were definitely the easiest if you have them. I drove approximately 4,000 miles with the rack on the truck and it didn't budge or move or sway a bit. I only had one road bike on the rack for the trip; so, i can't speak for driving for all 5 bikes on the rack. The only issue I have the rack and why i only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is definitely not rust proof. I was hit with some rain on and off throughout the trip and i started noticing areas of the rack were rusting. i'm not quite sure what to do about that; that's a bummer though for sure. I would definitely recommend this rack; it was a big life saver for me. I couldn't imagine paying several hundred dollars for those higher name brands when this one did a perfect job and was study enough to endure thousands of miles of driving, some of which were not smooth terrain. However, I did accidentally back the rack (attached to the truck) into a tree because i wasn't used to the rack being there. It didn't hurt the rack whatsoever; it's a study rack for sure! I love that is rack will come down while still mounted to open the back of my truck- that was a great advantage of the rack. Overall, this is an amazing rack for an amazing price and will definitely keep the brand in mind if we ever need another one.

Holy Wow!!
I've never owned a rack before and have just been waiting to buy one. After reading all of the reviews for this rack and several other racks, I must say that I am so happy with the choice that I made!!! The rack was incredibly easy to put together, easy to get into the hitch, and easy to operate. I read several reviews that mentioned not being able to get the pin back in once they had lowered the rack for trunk access, I didn't have that same problem. For informational purposes, these are the couple of issues that I do have (which are not a fault of the rack, but situational): I drive a 2005 Jeep Liberty. In order to use the 5th spot for a bike, I will have to remove my spare tire. I will also have to remove the spare tire if I want to open the back door of the car. That is a mild set back, but something that I can definitely live with. An if I'm not mistaken, I believe that there is an extension that can be purchased if this becomes a problem. Also, I purchased a receiver lock to use with the rack. The rack itself comes with a "no wobble" bolt to use in the hitch, and I'll tell ya, the rack doesn't budge when the bolt is tightened. When I put the receiver lock in place, however, there was all kinds of room for the rack to wobble back and forth. In all reality, I can't imagine that any one person will just so happen to have the right size wrenches (you definitely need two in order to get the bolts on and off) while passing by that will make it possible to steal the rack. So really, no worries. All in all, I'm extremely happy with the purchase. The price was more than right, the rack itself is very sturdy, and I'm just dying to get it out on the road.

Best bike rack, hands down!
This it the bike rack to own. I borrowed one for a recent trip to Canada and my buddy was amazed at how easily we could get get 2 adult and 2 youth bikes on and off the rack; this coming from a guy who warned me my blood pressure would double trying to get bikes on and off ANY bike rack. We got it down to 2-3 minutes to load up or unload the rack. The adjustable nature of the arm made it very easy for us to access the back of our Honda Pilot and the space for the 5th bike (closest to the rear gate of the car) created sufficient room for us to open the glass panel to access camping gear in the back of our pilot. I have not used the permanent tow pin yet, as I bought a locking pin from a 3rd party vendor. Although there is some wiggle to the rack without any bikes on it, with the weight of the bikes, the rack moved very little. I even forgot that there was a bike rack there several times (due to its unobtrusiveness) and had to be careful not to back up into objects behind me. The unit worked so well, I bought my very own from Amazon. It arrived in great shape, save for one missing "non-critical" part, replaced immediately by working directly with the Allen company. They were incredibly responsive and got the part to me in only a few days. I must say, their customer service cannot be beat. Which is why I feel so compelled to write this review. I researched bike racks to the extreme and hadn't even considered an Allen until my colleague let me borrow hers. I am now a lifelong customer and will recommend this rack, in particular, to friends and family, alike. No need to spend big bucks. This one gets the job done and does it well.

Would buy again!
I was looking for a 5 bike rack and didn’t want to pay top dollar for it. I have a mechanical engineering background and believe this rack will hold up for a long time. There are a few things I would redesign if I produced this product. 1 - add a large welded loop to put a locking cable through, 2 - design the bike rest so they can be locked in position or tighten the tolerance so they will not be able to rotate easily as you put the bikes on (Nice idea for positioning the bike but very frustrating when they rotate as the bike is going on). 3 - add into the kit some padded Velcro straps to put between bikes as they are very tight together and rub in spots. 4 - build this this rack with the same dimensions for four bikes with an added push button extension bar on the end for a fifth bike if needed (this would allow for more room between bikes). Comments: I was concerned about the bike straps being difficult to reach and feed the straps through. It turned out not to be a problem. Overall they work fine, but take a little more time to put on and especially to take off than the rubber stretch style. They will not come loose after pulling them tight. I am not sure how well the strap material will hold up over time if left out in the elements but I believe they are replaceable. To put a bike on the inside towards the car the rack needs to be tilted out and then lifted back up with the bike on the inside. I only put a small bike on that side so far and it cleared the back of my van. If you put a bike on inside of the rack there is no way to access the back of a van even after tilting the rack because the van tailgate will hit the bike. Without the bike there it clears fine. It is a little difficult to reach and remove the tilt pin with all the bikes on to access the tailgate. I did it a few times with not too much difficulty but I am a bit stronger than the average person to lift all the bikes back into position. Overall, well built and designed and I would still recommend it as it is without improvements.

Awesome Rack and EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE
I bought this rack to hold all my family's 5 bikes. I typically mount this rack to dual hitch adapter and most times when I use it, I'm also pulling our travel trailer. SO the rack is positioned between my SUV and the trailer. It does have the very slightest wobble, but it's on there so securely this doesn't bother me in the least. It's VERY minor; It's definitely not going anywhere! The straps work great on all our bikes. I usually position the smaller bikes so that one strap is on the vertical seat post bar while the other strap goes around the lower frame of the bike. Even on the lower frame part, the straps are plenty long enough and hold the bikes VERY securely. Now, I've never owned a premium bike rack from those expensive companies. But given my experience with this rack, I dont see why I'd ever own one of those. This rack is GREAT! I'd highly recommend it. Recently, I was backing up a hill with the travel trailer attached and one of the bikes caught a part of the camper, bending the rim of the bike and breaking 2 hold-downs on the rack. This was completely my fault, not a fault of the rack. I ordered 2 replacement hold-downs from Allen Sports website and they IMMEDIATELY emailed me that they were returning my money (which they promptly did) and sending me the 2 hold-downs for FREE! Since my rack was so new, they wanted to do this for me! What AMAZING customer service! If you're on the fence about buying this rack, I'd suggest you not hesitate. A Great bike rack, from a great company! The Premium version does have some really nice features. If I were to replace this rack, it would be with the premium model, but the deluxe rack is a great rack also.

Great product at a great price!
I recently purchased this bicycle carrier to mount on the hitch of my small Acura SUV. I did not want a roof rack because the vehicle is so tall, and I didn't want a rack touching the paint either. I also have 3 children and a wife who's bicycles sometimes travel as well- so to fill these needs I needed a 5-bike hitch Mount Rack! This was easy to assemble, and very sturdy (to test it I did a series of dips while it was mounted on my vehicle, the car moved more than the carrier) . I have replaced several of the pins with locking bolts during travel so my bicycle can not be stolen by taking the carrier apart while I am indoors somewhere having a meal or some such thing. I added a locking hitch pin, and 3 more locking pins, 2 where the cotter pins go and 1 to replace one of the two bolts in the center of the main post. This is probably overkill, but VERY secure. ( I also lock my bike to the hitch AND the carrier) The mounting straps are simple to use and secure. My first trip out with my precious bicycle mounted on the carrier I drove with one eye on the rear-view, but after that first trip, I just strap down my bike and go! For twice the price, I couldn't find anything better!
