Question 1

Why does the rated voltage in the description say 3.6 volts but I see users saying it runs fine with 24 volts.

Accepted Answer

Because the motor draws its own maximum current when it's fed 3.6 volts, and all stepper drivers (the electronics controlling the stepper motors) are constant-current drivers, meaning that although they may be connected to a 12V source or a 24V source or a 36V source... they always limit the current to the stepper motor to whatever current they're set for (in this case ideally just about 1.0 amperes)... and the stepper drivers will deliver however much voltage to the stepper as is necessary to keep that current constant. This means that the drivers automatically compensate for wiring length and for speed-related inductive losses.

Nobody actually runs any of these steppers at 24V. Ever.

It’s a nema 17. That means it’s 1.7 inches by 1.7 inches, or 43.2 mm x 43.2 mm.

What is the shaft diameter of this unit?

the Data sheet says 5mm.  I am unable to measure it because it's currently being used.

I'm having trouble getting the right MV settings.  I had it at one point but it was turning too slowly - at 12mv it's just stuttering

The ones I have work great with no issue, although I did have to swap some wires because of the bipolarity. So, two things: Make sure you set the proper vRef on your stepper driver for your motor. (This maybe different then what it was originally set to), Make sure the motors are the same bipolarity as the ones you replaced, i.e. (A, A\, B, B\). The motors you just purchased will come with a data card compare them to the data on your old ones. Hopefully this helps.
