Zion Lightweight Tent and Footprint - Perfect for Backpacking, Kayaking, Camping and Bikepacking

First off I need to tell you that I have never been backpacking before. Experienced hikers may have a different perception. When I received my tent, I practiced setting it up in my living room. By my third time practicing I could set up this tent by myself in less than 7 minutes. Because sometimes height makes a difference....I am 5' 2" tall. The specs given in the product description are accurate. Now, for the "Tent survival" experience I encountered. 1. Wind - This tent performed beautifully during a night of 9 mph-11 mph winds with gusts of 18 mph. I heard no flapping noises from the rainfly, the poles did not buckle and the tent did not cave in around me. Upon inspecting the tent the next morning I discovered no rips on the rainfly, or tie-out points. The poles were fine. The tent looked as if I had just taken it out of the box. 2. Rain - I did not purchase seam sealer. My thought is if you advertise your product is rainproof than why should I spend extra money to make certain it is rainproof? The rain began in the early morning hours and continued all day and the next night. It was a steady rain, not a downpour but a hard rain. In spite of all the rain that fell there was no wetness on the floor of my tent or in the corners. I was comfortably dry! 3. Snow - We awakened to 1/2" of snow. Though 1/2" of snow is not much with this being a three season tent I felt I should add this to the review. I have no idea when the snow started. When I got out of the tent the next morning I was totally surprised to see snow. Once again this little tent held up well. I found no signs of stress at all with this tent. I feel this is a remarkable tent. The mesh truly keeps the bugs away. The duel doors are nice and wide and the latern hook is not a ring but a hook which I like better. The overhead loft and side pockets are huge. This tent offers plenty of room for me and my gear.

I wanted to love this tent. I’ve purchased a couple other items (trecking poles and sleeping pad) from Paria Outdoor Products and I’ve been VERY happy with them, but I had to return this tent. The size of the tent is phenomenal, especially for its weight, and it’s nice that they include a footprint, but the overall quality leaves much to be desired. The stitching and how they cut the mesh at the seams is messy, the buckles are bulky, the zippers are cheap, the mesh is low quality (compared to other tents) and doesn’t provide great visibility or breath ability, the mesh sagged a little and so did the rain fly, even when staked out, and the rainfly doesn’t drop down far enough. Now that’s a lot of complaints, but it is a very serviceable, spacious, and lightweight tent, at a very good value. I just wish Paria Outdoor Products made this same tent (same size), but with better materials and better care.

I gave this tent the full test run and full review over 7 days and 6 nights. The first two nights we're backpacking through Snoqualmie Pass up and around Gem Lake and back. Round-trip of about 15.5 miles. 85 Degrees during the day. Down to 43 degrees at night with a pretty strong wind. The next four nights we're backpacking through the Olympic National Forest and along the coast and then into the whole rainforest which is shown in the picture of our whole rainforest Camp spot. This weather however was much different cold rainy windy wet and on the last day of the weather broke and got into the high 70s with a slight breeze. We were hit with heavy rain on the beach for about 30 hours and the tent seem to hold pretty good other than when the rain really hit hard it would almost seem like it would get through the fly somewhat. Not necessarily enough to be worried. The base of this tent is extremely waterproof. We literally woke up in a puddle in the rainforest and were completely dry on the bottom. The quality ripstop and nylon is second to none except the design of the two vestibules with the double steaks is not necessarily a smart idea considering there's no point for to State points. Also the short top ridgepole has no specific spot to go other than a somewhat reinforced point on the rain flight self, which in heavy winds and a lot of movement eventually will wear and tear through without a doubt. I love the design and simplicity and symmetry of this tent. It's straightforward one side matches the other you don't have to try to meet any color coded asymmetrical clips. Which is really nice when you're in a rush to pop up your tent in the middle of a hail storm. I really like how this tent seems really strong but also packs extremely small. I have the tent, rain fly, and footprint all packed nicely into a small size compression sack. I also like how the no-see-um mesh is a little bit heavier Duty than most tense which is key, considering backpacking tents get tossed around and shoved into packs from time to time. There's a very good balance of the material size and weight ratio of this tent. That being said, there are many things that I would do to this tent to lighten up the weight considerably. One of which is downsizing the clips at the corner points. We seem to be much too large. Second is removing one of the steak guy out points on the rain fly, you can just as easily zip the rain fly down and it will be taught. Another huge weight reduction could be in the pole try holder section. Those machine pieces of aluminum are twice the size of what they need to be and could be machined down to half the size and still work just as efficiently. And lastly, not that it has necessarily anything to do with weight but, V round metal eyelet rings for the base of the tent and the footprint I don't believe are made from aluminum or stainless steel because after just one night of rain three of the four eyelets rusted, and this was very disappointing. I would say maybe go with a light stainless steel because they're a little stronger and there's a lot of tension on those points but if that is not cost effective obviously aluminum would be okay as well. It's just a little softer and met oval in time. I am currently still on the fence about returning this tent but I think I will try to give it one more test run in a different element like Mount Olympus in a couple weeks via the HOH River Trail. All in all, I think this tent is great and you guys are on the right track with starting with quality and later developing craftsmanship, streamline design and stitching precision. Because let's face it, if you can get out into the Wilderness and it keeps you dry and out of the elements that's what counts first. If it looks pretty and you're still getting rained on, nothing matters at that point. So thanks for keeping me dry. Makes me feel like somebody out there cares about the product and the consumer and not just trying to make a buck.

Bought this to take overnight backpacking trip to a very rugged wilderness area. We hiked down a gorge to the river and found that the sandy, flat campsite we were familiar with was (due to recent flooding) now a rock pile with a slight slope. We figured we’d test out the tent for real as we didn’t feel like hiking back out to another site. We did not guy out the tent at all, and The tent migrated about a foot downhill during the night, but it stayed on its footprint and held up very well against the rocks. With two adults and a dog in the tent ( and without opening the two vents on the fly), there was a lot of condensation in the tent in the morning, but it dropped down the fly walls and did not bother us at all. Four HUGE pockets and two small gear lofts made organizing a snap. As others have said, the vestibules are small. However, we were able to fit one pack in the tent with us, and could have certainly fit the second one in with us if pressed to do so, though it would have been a squeeze with the dog. The inside of the tent is generous, so I suppose it’s a trade-off. For the price, this is a well-made, versatile tent. I’m very happy with my purchase so far!

Ok so let me start with the good stuff: I definitely LOVE the design of this tent. A lot of space for 2 adults and some stuff. My bf is almost 6ft and I am 5ft so we finally found a tent where we don't feel like we are in a coffin, we can actually move inside. We split the tent so we could each carry a light amount of weight. SUPER easy to set up, anyone could set it up alone or in the dark. We wish they made it in a brighter color such as yellow but at least is not an ugly color either. Lots of stakes which was nice too. Now for the bad: we used it 3 nights where we had a LOT of rain. The great thing was not a single drop of water was in the tent the next mornings, the awful surprise when we unpacked it after the trip was that the rings had already RUST! which I noticed someone else also mentioned here. Also if you pay close attention to the stitching you can notice it isn't the finest job. However, I easily got it exchanged and for the price I still wanted to keep it and will try to coat those tiny metal rings with something to avoid the rust in the future. I think a person who is constantly out and about camping in all kinds of whether might want to pick something more durable, but for some like me who just camp ocassionally I believe this is the right product for you. I have a couple of friends who use Paria products and are very happy with them so I am gonna give them a chance and will try to update this review later. Update Sep 2021: this tent is still going strong and does not have any damage whatsoever. Still recommend it as alternative too big name brands.

Bought this tent due to the good reviews, was completely happy with it! Took it on a 7 month Appalachian trail thru hike and it lasted the whole time, it is quite heavy for a thru hike but me being cheap and liking my space I just suffered the weight. It seemed to have slightly more condensation over more expensive tents but it was negligible. The large bath tub kept torrential rain out of my tent better than others with more expensive lighter tents. The poles never had an issue, the grommets on the rain fly rusted a little but it didn't impact performance at all and was most likely because I would pack up a wet tent and not pull it out to dry it so my fault. It only finally died when it was 23 degrees out and the rain fly needs to be stretched a tad to go on and it froze overnight so when I took it down it tore slightly. Probably fixable but I didn't want to chance it in that weather, it never claims to be a 4 season tent tho so again, my fault for testing limits. All in all it's a wonderful tent for the price, just a bit heavy.

I have been using this tent for just over 2 years. I have taken it on a total of 6 backpacking trips in the Eastern United States. Pros- - Fits 3 adults, with sleeping pads and cold weather sleeping bags. Not a lot of left over room, but also not claustrophobic inducing. - Very well ventilated, even fully zipped up. With the fly vents opened and guyed out, I have had ZERO condensation on the inside of this tent. - Setup. No crappy sleeves to try to jam poles through, just clip the inner tent to the continuous pole structure and throw the fly over. After the first practice setup I can get this up and ready in 2-3 minutes. - Breakdown. Just as easy as setup. AND IT ALL EASILY FITS BACK IN THE PROVIDED STUFF BAG!!! - Double everything! Double "doors", double floors, double vestibules. - Waterproofing. Only had one night of intense rain and it held up perfectly. Seams did not leak, and inside stayed dry. Cons- - Color options. I do not care for white tents, the material is very sheer and captures haptic light. - Pack size. Naturally the 3 person model eats up a lot of space in a backpack, consider carrying strapped on the outside of your pack. - Vestibules are on the small side, being a tad more shallow than I would like. This makes its difficult to store 3 backpacks and still use both "doors". Overall a solid tent. Price is great, and performance is satisfactory. If you are looking for an easy tent that does not require trekking poles to setup, this is a great option.

I set it up purposely on a windy day. It obviously was a challenge but I was able to do it. I did resort to using some better quality stakes and guy wires as those that come with it were cheap and not something I would use with any tent. They did keep the weight down overall so backpackers may appreciate that. I bought the 2-person and I'm glad I did. I'm 5' 10" and I sleep diagonally. It's cozy but room enough to keep my pack inside with me easily. I'm a tosser and turner and do need room to allow for this. This is the right size for people like me. I can't imagine two people using it. I've used it three times and no negative issues so far. Serves its purpose nicely. I appreciate the reasonable price more than anything! Makes one able to enjoy nature more when you can afford to actually experience it. I give it four stars because the weight was a bit more than I realized and the cheap stakes and guy wires included did not work for me. I would recommend it.

I was quite disappointed to find out that this tent is made in China. I was only supporting this company and paying a premium for this tent because I thought it was made in the US.

Für den Preis ein super Zelt. Sehr leicht und klein, dadurch ideal fürs Bikepacking. (Passt perfekt in Ortlieb Lenkertasche) Regen und Sturm hat es im ersten Urlaub auch gut überstanden. Kleinere Nähfehler sind hier und da vorhanden aber nichts funktional relevantes. Ansonsten sollten eine Abwicklung über Amazon oder Paria Outdoor auch kein Problem sein. Wenn man bedenkt, dass Zelte in dem Gewicht und Funktionsbereich gerne mal das 3-4 fache Kosten, ist das ein Super Produkt.

I'm absolutely gobsmacked at the quality of this tent. The seams are poorly sewn or missing, there's additional overlapping fabric and the seam tape isn't even stuck down properly. This doesn't even seem to be an outlier, as I just found complaints of poor quality stitching after digging through external reviews. Paria say that they, "work hard to design high-quality products and offer them at a reasonable cost," but that is only half true. They do not seem to design their own products from what I saw first-hand—unless they have a Chinese uncle who designs very similar tents—and it certainly isn't "high-quality." Very disappointing.
