Mine is not pointing north and doesn't move. It appears 2 not have liquid** A: There is not supposed to be any liquid. If the compass is not moving gently tap it on the palm of your hand. I was issued it in 1997. I used it till my discharge in 2009. And I have used it on our outdoor expeditions all over New England ever since. Hasn't failed me yet. I searched the NSN #, found this Rothco model, and I'm purchasing now. Can't go wrong and can't be beat. Do some research on the NSN and what it takes to acquire one and you will have no worries! Also, for those asking about liquid...do your research before trekking out into the wild with a compass. **Q: pls tell us where this is made** A: I don't have a definite answer for you, since nowhere on the compass itself, or the pouch, does it say "Made in USA". What I can say is the item I received does have the tritium source, has the drab green painted aluminum body, and in all respects appears to be well made. On the top cover is cast into the case: "Model 3H Cammenga NSN 6605-01-196-6971 U.S." Inside there is printed date of 10 03 77, and on the underside, again cast into the compass body, is "21-26460-02E 120mCi 3H". Per cammenga.com/product-p/3h.htm , it says the date code I gave above is actually "The manufactured date can be found on the inside of the compass cover next to the sight wire. In most cases it will be displayed as a series of 3 pairs of numbers: ## ## ## This format stands for the year, month, and lot number. For example: If the compass was made in January of 2004 the date would be displayed 04 01 77. The lot number 77 is a generic number for compasses made outside of a government contract" So mine was made in March 2010.From my use of this compass, it feels and acts like "the real thing". The compass, however, is legit; solid, new, properly stamped with Carmenga identification. Mine has nice, bright tritium, and is dead accurate. A couple of months ago I took it to Ranger School used it to pass the land nav without trouble. I didn't finish the rest of the school but that can hardly be blamed on the compass ;) By the by, I prefer this lensatic style of using the lens to read from the dial over the mirror style from manufacturers such as Suunto. It's more natural for the eye to focus on the numbers, you're less likely to tilt the compass while reading (ie. to get a good look in the mirror).
