The size I chose at 8mm fits fine. The problem is the opal flat piece. I expected it to sit flat but It doesn't. So when taking care of yourself, washing, wiping, whatever involves the area, the flat piece gets caught. If you clean/wipe front to back (as that should be done with or without jewelry) it gets in the way and latches on whatever you're using. By then you're sore and just don't want the piece anymore. I haven't had this experience with other jewelry. I think it's how the jewelry is designed. For any other piercing I'd say it's fine. For me, I'm not happy with it. I bought it for my rook. It is a bit smaller than I thought it would be but okay for the rook size I think. I’ll never know though because when I was trying to unscrew it (either side, neither of them were budging) the opal end snapped off.I looked on the amazon page for something about which end to unscrew or not unscrew, but it said nothing. Then I looked at the questions and one person said the opal part did unscrew so I kept trying. NOPE, just broke right off. Only the gold end unscrews, which finally gave after the other end snapped off.Should have read the reviews before buying, quite a few people said this. Silly of me. Very annoying because if I could have gotten the gold end off first, it would have been perfect.
