I am a mechanical engineer who lives within view of the ocean, so anything that can rust or corrode WILL rust and corrode from the salt water spray. Therefore, I am limited to marine grade aluminum, stainless steel, or plastic/composite. The latter is generally not durable enough for the winds at the shore. Aluminum products often contain stainless steel screws since aluminum is not that strong, but the dissimilar metal stainless steel causes the aluminum to corrode through galvanic action from rain, which is much worse near salt water. I was pleasantly surprised that this flag holder was heavier and sturdier than I expected. Fit and finish were excellent, and the supplied thumb screws and mounting screws as well as the holder itself were definitely stainless steel (screws were not attracted by a magnet and holder was only slightly attracted, which is typical of some grades of stainless steel and some manufacturing methods). It even came with a very nice brad point drill bit to pre-drill in hardwoods. The mounting screws were long and had a good coarse thread for a good grip the softwoods where you would typically mount the holder. However, they were actually too long for mounting on a 1.5” thick railing, so I swapped them for shorter stainless steel screws. I would definitely recommend purchasing this flag holder, particularly if you live anywhere near salt water or have high winds.

Received my Flag Pole Holder ( bracket ) just two days after I ordered it ..... I’m pleasantly surprised. The holder is quite heavy as expected, and it was very well packaged ( zero damage to package ). I tested the stainless steel with a strong magnet... it was only slightly attracted magnetically, .... as expected with 304 Stainless. The English miss-wording and incorrect grammar on the package is humorous, but the meaning is easily understood. My only complaint is that the bracket doesn’t have a drain hole on the bottom for rain to exit. The second picture in the Amazon product display indicates a drain. The picture has these words “Perfect design, rain water could run out”. But there is NO drain hole in my bracket. Furthermore, the picture is misleading, ...water doesn’t flow upward as the picture depicts. ( see attached photo ). I may try to drill a small drain hole on the bottom.......but stainless is difficult to drill. Possibly if I make a small indentation in the mounting surface ( wall ) material behind the bracket it would suffice as a rain drain path. But over the long term that might allow wood rot or fungus to damage the mounting surface, and it would easily get clogged with debris. A better solution would be for the manufacturer to include a drain hole in the bottom of the stainless steel, .. one that could be cleaned out if it became clogged. I gave it 5 Stars because it appears to be very sturdy, ... which is what I wanted most.

Reluctantly, I have to give it five stars. The bracket is solid and very sturdy. Just what I wanted. I didn’t realize the pole came in pieces, but that’s on me. I am not sure how that’s going to last, but it may turn out to be a convenient feature. The listing makes it appear like this is made in America. I don’t think that is true because of the bad English on the instructions. “Rob and rob rotate connect” “ insert the flag into the hole in the holder and tight up with screw”

Arrived in a box about 18 inches long 4 inches wide. Pole just easily screwed together. The bearings allow the flag to remain tangle free. Pole is strong enough to handle the wind with a 3x5 flag. Will adjust to smaller and larger flags. Photo shows my facia board is angled. I made a block of wood to make flag drape at a 45degree angle and I painted both black so it would not be a bright cast mount. Mount is easy to install. 3 screws it to the facia board and the package includes a drill and screws for stucco or cement mounting. You will need a screw driver or a electric power driver. I’m happy with the sturdiness. Looked very good displaying my flag for the fourth.

I've purchased a few flag poles and flag pole mounts in the past and they've been flimsy, rust, and break. So I spent a bit more on this one and glad I did. Huge difference in quality. This is heavy, durable, and great quality. Even the screws are stainless so they shouldn't rust. The pole is very heavy duty and adjustable. Highly recommend spending a little more and getting a good quality pole that won't break or rust. This is nice looking and great quality.

OK, I just received this yesterday so my review is limited to my perception of the build quality and design of the item, as well as ease of installation. At the end of this Autumn, I will update my review to discuss the function over the next six months. So... Out of the box: well, but not over, packaged. All of the required screws (plus plastic anchors) were there (plus one extra set - nice touch) and appropriately sized for a bracket that would need to stand up to a four foot pole with a three by five foot flag on a windy day. No instructions, but let's face it...putting up a flagpole bracket on a newell post is not exactly rocket science. Not counting the time it took to bring my cordless drill up from my workshop and measure/mark where I wanted to mount it, it took maybe 15-20 minutes from the time I pulled the trigger on the drill for the first hole to the time when I put the last nudge tightening the final screw. The fit of my new flagpole into the holder is perfect. The wingnut that holds it tight fit the well-threaded hole perfectly and tightened the pole in exactly the way you would want it to. Overall, this is is a very good looking, well-built, easily installed, very functional flagpole holder. UPDATE: July 21. 2001 About a week ago we were hit by a very strong pop-up thunderstorm with very strong gusts of wind. The flag tore, but the pole bracket and pole remained intact. Unfortunately, that is more than I can say for my newel post -- the pole bracket actually ripped a chunk of the post (about 6" x 4") out of the post. Not a failure of the flag pole mount...a construction material on the part of my house contactor when he built the porch. Overall, my review of the pole bracket remains the same, but with a caveat: make certain whatever you are mounting it on is capable of sustaining the maximum stress that might be placed on it in a storm.

We have had a number of surface-mounted flagpoles that were designed to prevent the flag from getting wrapped around the pole, but none worked. I still had to unwrap the flag daily, if not hourly on windy days. I even resorted to tying weights to the bottom of the flags to prevent them from wrapping around the pole, but that only helped in the slightest of breezes. This is the only flagpole we've owned that has come close to keeping the flag flying free in all weather conditions. It is by far the best flagpole we've ever had. No rust stainless steel thumbscrews allow for easy pole removal/reinstall for hurricanes, tropical storms. No plyers required to loosen/tighten corroded thumbscrews.

I purchased this cast metal flagpole holder after burning through two others in less than a year. The original plastic body flagpole I owned cracked and broke apart within months. It just could not take repeated wind loading. Then I invested in a stamped and formed sheet metal flagpole holder. Within a few weeks, that one failed too. This was my last resort, and I am so pleased with the quality of this product. It's solid and has a great coating to avoid corrosion. The wall thickness is much bigger than the other products I tried, and I have no doubt it will be robust enough to serve my needs. I would recommend this product. I have not received any compensation for this review. I was motivated by my frustration with previous crappy products and the money I wasted on them. I hope this review will help you all too.

Ordered two of these mounts even though some reviews were single stars. I am happy I did. They are heavy and built strong. They will serve the purpose for which I got them - outside flags 365 days a year in province of Saskatchewan. I wouldn't hesitate to get them again.

I have two of these and I love them. I used to get the cheap light aluminm ones, but they kept braking in strong winds, ever since I switched to these one, I have had no problem at all, great constructions and highly recomend them if you want to fly your flags without worrying about breakeage.
