A: The inside is stainless and the top is plastic. Hot water can come in contact with plastic as the inside of the spout is plastic. Works very well and fast but there is no bell.

A: Hi, the cord measures 28 inches.

**Q: how long does it take to boil?**
A: Did not actually check the minutes to reach boiling point, but it is really quick.  I find it very good and fast.  It's a keeper with daily uses.  Love it

I have ordered the Hamilton Beach Electric Kettle twice before. The previous kettle lasted over three years--great for the amount of use it got. When it died I clicked re-order. What came is not the same product. It is similar, but does not feel as substantial, and will leak around the top if I don't pour slowly. It should have been presented as a different model. It does, however, heat water to a boil rapidly and it shuts off automatically.
