It is the HD Commercial unit. Well the bearings in my old blender cub finally wore out and had gotten pretty noisy. Also the old jars the bearings were not very well sealed and water could easily into the bearing assemble. I just received my new jar and used it for the first time today. The first thing I noticed with the new jar was the bearings were very well sealed and does not appear to allow water or liquids to enter into the bearing assembly. The blade shaft was also very tight with a tighter tolerance then older jar(s). After a close eyeball inspection I was ready to put it to use. I have to say the noise level was Greatly Diminished compared to the old jar(s) that came with the blender. In fact I could not get over just how quiet the new blade assembly is compared to the old one. Another issue I had with the old blender cups was the fact the lid never fit properly and liquids would creep out of top of the jar while blending. Also there was no center hole in which to add additional ingredients while blending. Well Blendtec seems to have fixed all that with the new covers as well. I am very happy with the new blender cups and would recommend them to anyone who has owned a Blendtec blender for many years and is still using the original blender cups. If I had known a while ago Blendtec had these new cups available I would have not waited until my old cups finally wore out. FYI: I stared with the 44oz and 32oz cups. I first wore out the 32oz cup then the 44oz one. I only ordered the 44oz replacement due it can do everything the 32oz cup can do. After seeing and using the 44oz cup I plan on ordering the 32oz soon and then ordering their newest cup "Twister Jar" I hope this helps out with your decision making process. Can you easily make smoothies in it too, or just thick purees?** A: This jar comes with 2 lids, Laura. The Twister lid is used for making things like nut butters or other thick mixtures that benefit from "stirring" as they blend. This lid isn't water-tight, however, so a second, water-tight lid is included for more liquid things like smoothies and cleaning. The jar is quite a bit smaller than the 4-Sided or Wildside jar, and the blade is smaller as well (16oz/500 ml for the Twister, as compared to 36 oz/1000 mil for the Wildside/4-Side jars). Still, if you are making smaller batches, I can't see any reason why the Twister wouldn't work for smoothies. If I had to pick only one jar and my budget allowed, I would choose the Wildside jar. The blade is bigger than the 4-Side blade, you COULD make nut butters in it (you'd just have to stop and scrap the sides), and since I go through a quart of green smoothie a day, the larger capacity works for me. That being said, the scraper-spatula that comes with the Twister jar is almost worth the price of the jar -- it's one of the best spatulas I've ever used!Hope that helps. As you can tell, I'm a huge fan of Blendtec blenders, and they DON'T pay me to say this, either! **Q: Is the jar glass?** A: No, the jar glass is made of very strong Co-Polyester plastic. **Q: Can the blade handle blending ice, just as easily as the blade in the Wildside jar? Thank you!** A: Sorry, I have not tried to do ice. I use mine for making nut butter. It does a verry good job for that and I am pleased with my twister jar. **Q: Does this come with a recipe book?** A: Yes, it does.
