Review: Excellent for cooks looking for organic and interesting recipes - Absolutely love this cookbook!! My family and I have recently switched over to an organic, non-GMO lifestyle and this book was full of fresh, interesting recipes to try. I watched Tom on the documentary "Origins" and found him to be very knowledgeable and interesting. His cookbook is no less informative! Learning about the benefits of gut health and how to make your own fermented foods was all new to me. I've tried many recipes throughout the book and love them all, from the spiced granola to curried vegetables. The only downside is that many of the recipes ask you to use specialized ingredients that can be expensive. I usually buy a few at a time and then make a bunch of recipes with that ingredient in it (ex. Coconut flour or arrowroot powder). This is not a beginner cookbook, so be prepared for lots of chopping and a little more time cooking. But it is SO worth it! The food is delicious, nutritious, balanced and my little kids even enjoy it. Highly recommend for those who are trying to change to a healthier lifestyle and enjoy trying new foods. You won't be disappointed! Review: Great recipes and comprehensive diet information - I have had the original Whole Life Nutrition cookbook since it came out and I LOVE this new version. The original has been my most used cookbook over the years, hands down! This new book includes the very latest nutrition science, and I especially appreciated the information and perspective on all the latest diets including the paleo diet. There are new chapters, and several new recipes. There is a whole chapter on cultured foods. I believe there are over 300 recipes altogether. We really enjoyed the new Quinoa tortillas and the grain free and vegan Apple Walnut Crisp. This book still contains many of our old favorites like Red Lentil Dal, Coconut Vegetable Curry, Wild Salmon with Lemon, Garlic and Thyme, Home-Style Chicken and Vegetable Stew, Raw Energy Balls, and Lemon Blueberry Pudding (I first made this pudding nearly 9 years ago and still remember my first taste, it gave me the satisfaction to continue my first elimination diet!) There are several smoothie and salad recipes that are delicious, and have been a great launching point for a whole foods lifestyle. I did not notice the use of xanthan gum in the baked goods, which is okay with me. Instead I did see chia seeds, which we love to incorporate. The recipes have definitely been updated. I have been cooking with the Whole Life Nutrition recipes for years and I am confident that they are as creative and well developed as the previous versions. And the photos! So beautiful! I wasn't crazy about the index at first, but I am getting used to it, and I am still giving this book 5 stars because the recipes and information are the best I have found. I am very pleased to have this update on my favorite book :)

Delicious & Wholesome!!!
My husband got me the Nourishing Meals Cookbook for my birthday in February and pre-ordered me the Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook, which came in a couple of weeks ago. We LOVE the recipes from both cookbooks. Within a few days of getting the Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook, we made the beef stew with swiss chard, lentil and brown rice salad, and fish tacos (we used salmon) and we devoured all of them. The chocolate avocado frosting from the Nourishing Meals Cookbook is dangerously delicious -- I found myself eating it from the container with a spoon, and when used to frost the vanilla cake topped with fresh strawberries...YUM!!! We also can't get enough of the walnut brownies from Nourishing Meals Cookbook. I can't wait to make every recipe from both books and am really looking forward to trying the fermentation recipes from Whole Life Nutrition. In addition to the recipes, the books are full of helpful information about the role our diet plays in our overall health and wellness -- I'm reading my way through the first chapters of Whole Life Nutrition and am learning new things with every turn of the page. We can't say enough good things about the recipes that Alissa and Tom create. We try to stick to a whole foods diet as much as possible, and these recipes make it possible to do so without sacrificing flavor and variety.

Overall a great book for the health conscious (if you eat animal products) if looking for varied meals with gluten, dairy, and soy free options. We were surprised by the liberal use of coconut oil (sat fat) and salt. Some recipes are hard-to-follow for friends I have recommended the book to. Some of the baking recipes need work as they don't "come out" for the average person. I have had success, but cooking/baking is a hobby. Has a few must have recipes so it's worth the buy just for those. All in all, highly recommended (just watch out for all the sat fat and salt in some of the meals). These are recipes even the standard american diet (SAD) person will love to eat. All my relatives ask for the recipes if we make these dishes. So it's a fantastic transition book for folks moving from SAD to a more healthy lifestyle. If you are already super health conscious (or on a Fuhrman/Ornish/Greger-type nutrition plan), maybe get it from the library first or buy just for the dessert section?

Family & Adult Friendly Healthy Eating
We have used and enjoyed the first edition of Whole Life Nutrition as well as Nourishing Meals cookbooks for years. Our nine year old son regularly treats us with fresh delicious breads, muffins, smoothies, and desserts from these cookbooks. He has learned that eating well can be both fun and delicious (and all the while models this enthusiasm to his younger siblings). As a midwife, I regularly counsel my clients in whole foods nutrition and the benefits of creating healthy habits during pregnancy and as parents. I am delighted to share this resource in my lending library. This new version includes straightforward information on the foundations of healthful eating and why, and when people start making Ali’s recipes, they too learn that healthy food and tasty food are not mutually exclusive! We don’t happen to be gluten-free, but I am conscious about how much we consume and love to have delicious alternatives and plenty of options for potlucks, birthday parties, and balance for my growing family. I cannot recommend this book more highly. You’re going to love Ali’s diverse palate, creativity in the kitchen and practical nature along with Tom’s evidence-based nutritional information. My kids love these recipes and we love knowing they are being nourished consciously.

My "go to" cookbook!
When it arrived I immediately sat down to peruse the mouth watering photos and then to delve into a chapter on my most recent food exploration--cultured foods. We've been enjoying Ali's recipes and learning about nutrition from Tom for over a decade. You can count on them to evolve along with the latest research. These recipes take the deprivation out of a food sensitivity diet and turn it into an opportunity to experience more healthy( and tasty) alternatives. The book doesn't stop at the inspiration of recipes and nutritional advice. Thorough explanations of ingredients and steps allow me to modify any recipe to my specific needs. And then, there is list of resources for harder to find ingredients. Whole Life Nutrition is an invaluable resource for the "how" and "why" of healthy cooking.

This is one of the best books if you're looking to clean up your diet ...
This is one of the best books if you're looking to clean up your diet and benefit healthwise. The book begins by going through different diets and explains what they are and their benefits as well as things you should be aware of. It also gives you a run down on all the foods you'll be enjoying and their benefits too. The recipes are great and easy to follow. There are some color photos in several sections but not of each recipe. This is not my preference as I'm very visual, but still, this is now one of my favorite nutrition books all round.

Not exactly as advertised
This book has a lot about nutrition and what’s healthy or not; the best cookware to use, how to stock your pantry, but the Recipe section is where it falls short. The reason I bought this book was to find eggless, soy-free, gluten free, sugar free recipes. Sugar is more easily replaced with readily available substitutes, but eggs, not so much. Almost every recipe in this book calls for eggs - but no suitable substitute is recommended. This was a disappointment. Would’ve given this 5 stars if the recipes more accurately matched with the book’s objective.

Accessible and sensibly healthy recipes
I love this cook book. Its recipes make sense to me: they are healthy, uncomplicated and are not swept up in health-food hype. I would recommend for anyone who enjoys cooking delicious, wholefoods recipes.

I am in love with this cookbook
I am in love with this cookbook! I love the overview of the different diets, the explanations on the different types of ingredients used, and most of all, I love the recipes. So far everything I made turned out very well. I enjoyed it and so did the kids. The meals were savory yet uncomplicated. I had the majority of ingredients already in my cupboard but the book made me discover some items I had never purchased. Having recently discovered a senstivity to dairy and wheat, this book is saving my sanity! Thank you so much. The Indian chicken curry is delectable BTW. It was supper tonight :)
