Excellent quality swivel sockets – proven under real torque (updated review)
I recently completed a full front suspension job at home—inner and outer tie rods, brakes, struts, rotors, hubs, lower control arm, bushings, stabilizer bar, sway bar links, and more. For most of that work, I relied heavily on Astro swivel sockets, and they absolutely delivered. I originally used their 3/8” swivel sockets extensively with a high-torque 3/8” impact producing 500+ ft-lbs, and I did not go easy on them. After the job, the sockets still looked nearly new. The swivel action remained tight and controlled, holding position like OEM-quality tools. Compared to big-truck brands, these are easily a fraction of the price with no noticeable sacrifice in performance. Since then, I also purchased Astro’s new 1/2” drive mid-length pinless swivel socket set, and I’m equally impressed. The mid-length design is a perfect balance—long enough for access but compact enough for tight spaces. The pinless universal joint is smooth, strong, and confidence-inspiring, especially under impact use. The deeper hex engagement and clear, laser-etched + stamped size markings make these very practical for daily or heavy weekend use. They feel purpose-built for real suspension and drivetrain work. Important Update on the 3/8” Mid-Length Version Astro revised the 3/8” mid-length swivel sockets in September 2025 (newer version) after reports of failures related to additional weight. The updated version now includes: • A new retaining ring design • An improved ball swivel groove to prevent snapping Astro clearly listened to feedback and addressed the issue properly. The YouTuber EZtechJoe has more detailed technical information, as Astro contacted him directly regarding the revision. Because of this update, I’m now planning to purchase the new revised 3/8” mid-length swivel sockets as well. No Issues with Shallow Sockets For clarity, I’ve been using Astro’s 3/8” shallow swivel sockets for over a year with zero issues. They performed exceptionally well and were rated among the top 3/8” swivel sockets on the Torque Test Channel, which matches my real-world experience. Final Thoughts Astro continues to prove they offer excellent value, smart engineering, and real durability. These sockets work flawlessly in ratchets and impacts, fit where they need to, and hold up to serious torque. Between the shallow, mid-length, and revised designs, Astro swivel sockets are now a permanent part of my toolbox. Highly recommended.

Pinless swivel Impact socket set
I have use it today working on multiple cars and I like it, built a great quality tools, the 3/8 for any small bolt or nut and for the 1/2 inch size is for larger bolt or nut it is so strong no issue on breaking the strut camber nut, the pinless design is what make very strong and it doesnt flap like crazy when the air impact at full engage. Other brand they hop out the bolt. Removing bolt is easy, thin and low profile, great size, locking ability on air impact

Look no further, you wont find a better deal than these Astro universal sockets.
Need durable universal sockets? Look no further. These compare directly to very expensive tool trucks at a very affordable price. Very compact for universal sockets. Fit and finish is top notch as expected from Astro tools. Best part is that come with a lifetime warranty from Astro, just like the far more expensive brands. Even compared to Harbor Freights offering, these are a far better value. Comes on a rail for easy storage. Looks great and very easy to use. Not too stiff in my experience like some people have reported.

Decent tool especially for the price, but I'm not convinced that pinless is the way to go.
First let me say that these seem very good for the price. However, I don't think they are strong enough for hard use with a quality impact wrench. I used these with a Milwaukee Gen2 stubby impact to remove some cylinder head bolts and exhaust manifold bolts. It was the first time I had used the socket. I noticed that it got very hot after the first two or three bolts, and then seem to not transfer torque as well. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the swivel action seemed to be binding up. The bolts were torqued pretty tight, but it didn't seem to me like it should have been enough to push these to their limits. I know Astro has a good warranty, but I'm concerned that I'll be having to warranty these out more often than I would like. I would say they are still the best bang for the buck, but I think the welded pin style that Snap-On and Matco make are superior and will hold up much better. Astro achieves a more compact socket, for a good price by using the pinless design, and I'm sure welding the pin so as to avoid a retention collar would significantly add to the cost, but I bet they could still beat the price by miles when compared to Snap-On and Matco, and I would be willing to pay some more for an Astro welded pin socket. I can say, I have been pleased with all of my Astro tools, but these I think might be the first ones that really don't quite live up to the reputation they have built for durability. They'll do the job for sure, and they cost a fraction of what the tool trucks charge. The are definitely more compact than a pinned socket with a collar like most of the cheaper pinned sockets use. I am a semi-professional technician (meaning I have a regular job in another field, but do a lot of automotive side work and used to have numerous ASE certifications) so I don't use my tools as much as the professional tech. I think that these will work for me but might fall short for a pro.

Good value
Astro Pneumatic makes very good impact sockets. They are much higher quality than their price tag represents. Sockets pivot freely without being too loose and a good selection of sizes. Organizer tray they come on is solid and makes storing them easy.

Astro make fine tools.
I have the same identical set except made by Snap-On and I have broken two of them. These Astro pinless swivel sockets beat Snap-On hands-down. They’re 1/5th the price and you cannot tell the difference in quality. What’s worse, is the Snap On rep does not want to replace the broken ones without me buying a whole new set. I'm just a car enthusiast, not a professional mechanic. I own several vintage automobiles and planes I need to keep in top shape. Astro Tools help me immensely. I’m done with Crap-On forever.

Good product
I have used these sockets for long enough now to say they are very durable compared to other brands. These are not the highest quality but would not recommend buying any other swivel sockets in terms of value for money.
