The "parking brake" engages with the flick of your wrist and stabilizes the chair for my wife to get in to or out of the chair. The removeable footrests are easy to install and remove which makes the chair even lighter, smaller and easier to load into the car. I have no doubt that the chair would fit into a normal "trunk" space on a sedan type vehicle or perhaps even into the space behind the fronts seats (assuming there was no passenger in the backseat on that side). When out and about, I keep the footrests in the same box in which they came, and put them on after my mom is in the chair.
