Empire of Storms completely changes the pace of the series. There is so much happening that I'm only just managing to keep up, and I loved every second of it. The scale of this story just keeps growing. Every time I thought it had reached its peak, Sarah J. Maas somehow managed to raise the stakes even higher. The convergence of all these characters was pure brilliance. After spending so many books with everyone scattered across the world, seeing almost all of them finally come together was incredibly emotional. Some of those reunions genuinely brought tears to my eyes. Chef's kiss. Manon is still an absolute babe, and I was so happy to finally get more of her. Every time she's on the page, she steals the scene. The twists just keep coming, and some of them are absolutely soul-destroying. This book had me grinning one minute and emotionally devastated the next. I honestly can't recommend this book enough. If you've made it this far into the series, you're in for an unforgettable ride. Because I adore it, and I’m not letting other people’s hate ruin my enjoyment of it. I don’t mean the people who just dislike the series, you guys are fine. But hate is a very different matter and I won’t tolerate it. ~~~~~~ AAAAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just needed to get that out of the way. Because that’s basically all that was going through my mind for hours after finishing the book. Hence why this review has taken a while to go up. By now, it’s no secret that I love Sarah J Maas’ books probably a little bit too much. So the days I spent reading this book were basically just me in full fangirl mode. I actually found it so hard to write notes as I read. One, because I rarely paused long enough to write notes and two, because my brain was just one huge !!!!!!!!! But I tried. So here are my somewhat coherent thoughts: I can pinpoint two main reason as to why I love this series so much… 1. The characters. They all have such different personalities, and are so thoroughly built up that they feel like real people – or as real as they can be, considering this is a fantasy world and a lot of the characters are fantasy beings. 2. Just the sheer amount of cleverness. HOW Sarah J Maas managed to think this plot up, I have no idea. This book didn’t fail to completely blow my mind like the rest. I actually cannot believe the amount of scheming and clever twists/plot reveals that go on. The amount of times I actually gasped out loud was incredible. I’d be reading the book, and then some grand reveal would happen and I’d gasp, then smile, then laugh because of course . Of course I didn’t expect what was coming because that’s just the way it is! I feel so involved with this world. Everything that happens, I feel so much emotion towards. I mean, I was sobbing by the end of this book . It wasn’t even something I’d usually sob about. If it was any other book, I probably wouldn’t have cried. But I’m way too emotionally invested, and I felt the effect of the situation fully. “I would sooner die tomorrow than live a thousand years with a coward’s shame.” The only *slight* problem I had with this book in particular was how Dorian seemed to change a bit. Of course, it’s understandable if you’ve read the previous books, considering what he goes through, but to me I think I’d have liked just a few more perspectives solely from him, just so we could see more of what was going through his head. Maybe then his personality change might have made more sense. I honestly think this might be my favourite book out of the series so far. That might change when I reread them, but for now, it’s my favourite. There’s just SO much action, paired with just the right amount of romance for me considering the sheer amount of characters. The story, the world, the characters…they all have a place in my bookish heart. And I’ve no doubt they’ll remain there for a very long time. I know a lot of people find this series problematic. And I understand their reasons, I really do. But honestly, it doesn’t ruin my enjoyment for these books, and I’m so glad this one lived up to my expectations. Rated 5/5 stars!

For me, Empire of Storms is the best instalment yet in the TOG series - and the other novels have been pretty spectacular. If you've got this far through them and are reading this review, you're on a roll now, and are probably going to finish the series - 'To whatever end' and all that! But it's still nice to know, I think, whether the novel you're about to read is going to deliver - and this one delivers in spades. So what made this one so special? I think, up until now, a lot of character and world-building has been going on - but this is where things really start to happen. Characters come into their own, storylines converge, romances flourish and the action picks up; you could say it's begun to reach critical Maas! (excuse the pun). I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that it takes a genius to create such a detailed world throughout the span of five books (and the author's not finished yet) and to weave together strands of a plot that began in book one. The foresight, creativity and planning that must have gone on to get from there to here is mind boggling. And the writing itself zips along at a rapid place. The book has everything - edge-of-your-seat set-pieces of action, loyalty, emotion, betrayal and, oh, the romances. This might be YA but Maas doesn't shy away from writing some pretty sizzling (yet very much non-trashy) scenes between her love interests - and I'm glad she did. As a YA author, the temptation might have been there to gloss over things more, but it's pretty awesome that she didn't, as it adds an extra dimension of believability to the characters' relationships with each other. I think, without it, it would have been harder to understand the bonds and sheer devotion of some characters to each other. And the friendships too - the author is so adept at showing how minor friendships (or even associations) develop, due to time and circumstance, into something far deeper and more profound. Even Manon's relationship with Abraxos is beautifully described - the Wyvern being depicted as the sort of huge, clever, loyal beast (like a dog with wings and a sting in the tail!) that we'd all want. I don't want to give away anything about the plot - only to say the end left me breathless (and I'm glad the series is now complete, so I can whizz my way through books six and seven) and that these characters really do have a place in my heart now. This doesn't often happen with novels - but I think the sheer scope of the world Maas has created and the investment required of a reader to go on a journey of 650-odd pages at a time, over so many volumes, means that the world she creates and the people in it really do get under your skin. So, if you're about to read this - I'm jealous!

A very good read lots going on I love elide and lorcans story and the witch’s I like aelin in this book the most out of the series I felt like she blended the best of celeana and aelin together in this book and it was very shocking at times to see how her mind works things out without the reader even noticing also cried at times the was some beautiful moments and some heart breaking ones the only reason it’s not 5 stars is because I struggled half way through to keep reading it got a little slow for me then but the ending was wonderful my 2nd favorite book in the series behind heir of fire 🔥

I am working my way through this, after finishing her other 2 series, and all her stories are very well crafted, keep me engaged throughout and wanting more at the end of each. I like her characters, as all are morally ambiguous and not traditional heroes and villains, and they are relatable and memorable. What I like less is the romance - the sex, which is always so wholesome and perfect and leaves me bored and the soul-mate-only-one-for-me-ever kinda intensity. While they have arguments, they are still depicted as “perfect love” which is tedious and unrealistic. But it is fantasy, and I can ignore it for the wider story. I do like the theme of female agency throughout her books.

Full Review: Another EPIC read from an author and a series that continues to go from strength to strength. Put simply - this was perfection on a page. I loved every second of it, and I adore how Sarah writes long, intricate books because it represents such great value for money. It took me a full week to read this because a) it's long and b) I had minimal reading time, but I enjoyed savoring it slowly. Reading Empire of Storms makes me want to read the entire series again because the characters have all evolved and matured so much. I loved all the different POVs we got in this book, and all the couples we had to root for! I was in book heaven! If you follow my reviews, you will know that I love a blend of action with romance and this book ticked all the right boxes. Aelin and Rowan are perfect, and I also really loved the slow-building romance between Aedion and Lysandra. I'm not sold on Lorcan and he has a lot to do to prove things to me and Elide. Aelin was very secretive in this book but it was for a good reason. She is the ultimate smart, fiesty badass female heroine and I loved her in Empire of Storms. She is still the same person underneath but you can see how much she has developed over the course of the series. The romance between her and Rowan is so heartfelt and reminiscent of the soulmates that they are. They don't always work as a united team (she still keeps so much from him) but there will be no one else for either of them. Dorian grated on my nerves a little in this book, even though I still love him, but he needs to start stepping up to the plate. Too much responsibility is left up to Aelin. I had a feeling where the plot was going, and I was hoping I was wrong, but I wasn't. My heart bleeds for Aelin and I'm not sure how Sarah is going to rectify it in the next book, but I have complete faith in her. Plot development was sublime in this book. She pulls a lot of threads together in an expertly skilled fashion. To write in so many differing points of view in order to tell the story, and to involve so much incredible worldbuilding and imaginative storytelling, is the skill of a truly talented author. Sarah is the bomb. I cannot get enough of her work, and I hope she has plenty more series in her head as I will never tire of reading her books. Both her current series are superb. The end few chapters were explosive and I swear I stopped breathing at one point. I want to kill Maeve. I don't know how the hell I'm expected to survive another year to find out what happens next. It's been over a week since I finished this book, and I've read about five others in between (I was on vacation) but I still feel gutted over how this book ended and heartbroken for Aelin and Rowan and so worried about all my favorite characters. Please hurry up and write the next one - I for one will be reading it the minute it releases. Gush fest over. Do yourself a favor and pick up this series, if you haven't already. I promise you won't be sorry.

’But there was no such thing as a better world – no such thing as a happy end.’ ‘Empire of Storms’ is the first book in the ‘Throne Of Glass’ series that wasn’t a re-read for me so naturally I was highly excited to discover exactly what would happen next. Especially given just how extreme the danger consistently is within this devastatingly brutal yet enchanting world. Needless to say I was hooked on this novel and didn’t want to put it down. Every moment spent lost within its pages was a delight and I can’t wait to discover exactly how this series will end. Like the previous books in the series this book is jam packed with action, adventure, danger, romance and intrigue. There’s so much darkness and devastation yet all of the romances that you also get to watch play out sizzle with heat. There were times, I admit, where I was left wandering is this series truly is YA due to how heated some of the scenes became. The romance and depth of feeling behind all these pairings never ceases to amaze me though. Every connection seems to crackle with chemistry which is a wonder to behold. There are lots of twists, turns and dramatic showdowns. Aelin kept me on my toes, as ever, the way that her scheming mind manages to work leaving me breathless on occasion. There were revelations that left me staggered, a dive into the past that revealed mountains of information, and many shape-shifting dynamics that left me breathless with anticipation. So much happens in this book. It’s awe-inspiring to watch everything continue to slot into place. Although how this series will end I simply do not know. This is certainly one fantasy series that keeps you in constant suspense. Oh and that ending? How on earth did readers wait for the next two books to release after that? Needless to say I’m itching to dive into the final (I’m writing this review after reading ‘Tower Of Dawn’ too as time got away from me) now. Personally I think ‘Queen Of Shadows’ is still my favourite of these books to date – due mainly to the staggering number of twists, turns and some of the showdowns that I’d been waiting for – but I still adored this book regardless. The whole of this series is undeniably a ‘must read’ for all fantasy fans.

Fifth novel in the 'Throne of Glass' series of fantasy novels. This is not a jumping on point for new readers. There is nothing to bring them into the story, or anything to remind regular ones what went before. Regular readers do please note that although the first four books in this series were marketed as novels for young adults, the back cover of this one says CONTAINS MATURE CONTENT. NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNGER READERS. There's violence aplenty and a couple of bits of strong language, but the above warning is largely for scenes of an adult nature. So really this is only for the over sixteeens. There is a map of the setting at the start. A short prologue. Then the book runs for six hundred and eighty nine pages. It's divided into two parts, and further into seventy five chapters. Following on from the end of the last book, Aelin still has a lot to do. She wants to save Terrasen. But with Erawan's schemes underway, the continent is headed for war. And what is Maeve up to? As Aelin's relationship with Rowan develops, a quest awaits them and her friends that might save the day. But as ever, some very very painful choices await as well. In the meantime, Manon, Lochan and Elide have journeys ahead of them also. Everyone is going to be very different by the end... There's a lot of world building and a lot of made up words to take in, but the writing is as smooth as ever and a pleasure to read. You couldn't describe any of these six hundred and eighty eight pages as padding. It knows where it's going and what it's doing all the time. There are character moments a plenty, and epic action also comes along as well. There's also a much bigger picture, which is steadily unfolded as we go along. The attention to detail here is very impressive. Character relationships do develop superbly well in believable fashion along the way. With the rough and the smooth for all concerned. Everything does come together so well in the final quarter, with twists and turns galore and excellent action. And scenes that do put some characters through the wringer. These don't seem to have gone down too well with some. But since it's not the end of the story, it remains to be seen what will happen next. It's another cliffhanger. And one that really might make you howl. But if the storyteller makes you desperate to know what develops then they're done their job. Although the going more adult and parts of the ending might not go down well with some, this remains another great bit of writing in a really great series. And I will be back for the next one.

La jeune reine, épaulée par sa nouvelle cour, devra faire preuve de beaucoup de courage. Sarah J. Maas va finir par avoir ma peau… Ce tome 5 était tout simplement magistral ! Je suis complètement fan de cette série, et attendre 2018 pour le tome suivant est un supplice !! Que de rebondissements et de révélations ! Surtout dans la deuxième partie du roman, où les événements et les batailles s'enchaînent. Plusieurs fois, j'ai du reposer ce livre pour digérer ce trop plein d'émotions provoqué par la plume de Sarah J. Maas. Aelin est au sommet de sa puissance, plus sûre d'elle que jamais, malgré toutes les épreuves qu'elle doit surmonter. Je l'ai trouvée vraiment courageuse dans ce tome, et bien que son côté un peu autoritaire ressurgissait de temps en temps, j'ai mieux compris toutes ses cachotteries à la fin du roman : Aelin a un tour d'avance sur tout et sur tout le monde. Elle a tout planifié, tout prévu. C'est vraiment dans ce tome que je me suis rendue compte de toute la dimension de son personnage, de sa volonté de bien faire les choses pour les gens qu'elle aime, pour son peuple, au détriment d'elle-même. Elle m'a épatée par son abnégation et son acceptation de son destin si tragique. Sa relation avec Rowan prend un tournant plus sérieux, plus profond. Leurs sentiments et la tension électrique qui règne entre eux est très justement dosée, rien n'est ni trop mièvre ni trop exagéré. Quant aux autres personnages, ils ne sont pas en reste. L'auteure a parfaitement exploré tous les rouages possibles dans les différentes relation, et plusieurs autres duos se sont formés, pour mon plus grand plaisir ! Je n'en dirais pas plus, je ne veux pas spoiler les futurs lecteurs ! Pour nous faire patienter jusqu'à la sortie de son prochain tome, Sarah J. Maas a récemment annoncé que le sequel concernant Chaol était plus long que prévu, et sortirait sous le format d'un roman en septembre 2017, qui permettra de rendre l'attente un peu moins longue jusqu'en 2018 !

Good quality neatly packed and no damage

This book had me in an absolute chokehold the entire time doing the tandem read with Tower of Dawn. It tied in so many things from Assassin’s Blade and all the other books. Loved the friendship/ relationship building in this book and the female badasses throughout. It made me laugh, cry, sit in absolute shock at moments, and tore my heart out at the end. Cannot wait to read the final book!
