This book is simply a review of other peoples scholarly articles and papers. It did not provide me with the in depth fundamental understanding of the quantum physics. Important topics such as the Quantum Confined Stark Effect, Franz-Kadlfyesch effects etc are simply mentioned without the related mathematical explanation. This renders it useless to me. Do yourself a favor and get the "Semiconductors Optical Modulators" by Koichi Wakita which attempts to explain the important characteristics of optical devices. (QCSE, EO effect, FK etc) Review: good - the book is brand new and in good condition. perfect

Okay for a quick brush over the history of Si Photonics
As a PhD student I was looking for some directed guidance in designing new modulator structures. This book is simply a review of other peoples scholarly articles and papers. It did not provide me with the in depth fundamental understanding of the quantum physics. Important topics such as the Quantum Confined Stark Effect, Franz-Kadlfyesch effects etc are simply mentioned without the related mathematical explanation. This renders it useless to me.
