These are incredibly valuable for selecting correct values. As a wise artist once said, "Values create form, color creates emotion. Value does the work, color gets the glory." It's essential in all art to get the values correct. Highly recommend for artists. Plus, fun to wear to see the skies and world in values. Review: Glasses say: I am a serious Quilter! :) - I bought these as a treat for myself. I plan to wear them to my next quilt class, just for fun. They are much darker than my value lens so I will have to see how they work out.

Not bad, but
I have been a quilter for 5 years, and what makes or breaks a quilt is the color combinations you choose; to ensure that you don't have too many medium hues together, and then the quilt looks muddy. I went to the local craft store and bought some red cellophane, cut an 8" x 5" piece, folded it in half (so as to get a darker red) and sewed it together and that works just fine for me. These glasses are REALLY dark red, almost too dark for my liking. I love gadgets and couldn't wait to get them; but truly the red cellophane does the trick, and you can stick the cellophane in your purse and if it tears just whip up another one.

Surprisingly helpful
These glasses say up front that they don't work as well on reds and pinks, so I'm not mentioning those here. The red-tinted lenses have shown me differences in value between many fabrics that I am not the same. As I am working on a scrap quilt that puts the lighter values in certain places, these glasses have been a tremendous help. Hope I remember to take them fabric shopping with me. They certainly help me use my stash better at home.

Value viewers
This item was purchased for artists to see value in their paintings and works great for value without seeing color.

Why did it take so long
As a quilter I find them so much easier to use than holding the small red plastic pieces to determine the color value. I can use them in my sewing room with my fabric stash or just put them in my purse to use at the fabric store.

Clip on are better due to the fact I need glasses at all ...
Not suitable for me. Clip on are better due to the fact I need glasses at all times.
