Had just received this item - suction nozzles do not have holes?

There are holes for the nozzles to suck the solder.

As you’ve noticed, the nozzles come with no hole in the tip upon unboxing. Actually, it is the factory’s setting that all the nozzles provided are solder-filled to prevent them from oxidation at the first time of use.

You can please simply heat them on your de-solder gun to melt the solder. We assure you that this will not affect the performance of the product.

what's the silicone pad for? it looks like it's supposed to wrap around a cable.

Its a heat-resistant pad so you can remove the tip without waiting for it to cool down. You can attach it to a cable if you want to avoid losing track of it.
