Let me save you some time.
This is the best surge protector there is. Get this one! You can research it if you like, but this is where the internet will point you. And you'll likely think it pricey, but if you have any sensitive musical or computer equipment, this protection is the best out there and it's actually cheaper than some other professional grade surge protectors. The ISOBAR is built of solid metal, I mean solid, so the box itself will last forever. This is a professional grade surge strip. Now there are some plastic trip-lite protectors meant for your TV stuff. They're cheaper and work fine, at least I've never had any problem. But I definitely want the ISOBAR for all my musical plugging in. I bought my first ISOBAR over 20 years ago, and it still works like a charm. I've bought 5 more since. I have a project recording studio that I use these in for pretty much everything I plug in there, and other than making the move to installing an overall surge protector at the studio's breaker box, in which if I did, I'd pop some big bucks for, these are all I will ever use. Now, as great as these are at protecting your equipment against the all too frequent and city common city power voltage surges, particularly in areas with hydroelectric power, all surge protectors have their limitations. While they protect against surges, most surge protectors don't deal with sudden drops of voltage. And I've been told by my amp guy, it's the drops that you should worry the most about. The ISOBAR is designed to recognize a sudden voltage drop and let the power latch down a bit slower to protect the equipment. Now there are some power conditioners out there, quite a bit more expensive to be sure, that are actually designed to deal specifically with sudden drops in voltage. Of course the main culprit here is city power going out altogether while you have your equipment running. And the best protection for that is a battery backup that will keep all your equipment running at a steady voltage level even without power. This is your best protection by all means. But the grade of battery backup you will need in a music project studio is going to cost you a big old wad of cash. And, you are going to have to run some power strips out of it anyway, so they might as well be ISOBARS. And one last disclaimer. Despite everything you do. There's one equipment killing culprit you just can't do anything about. And this one has gotten a few of my machines. Static electricity! In particular, the static caused by nearby lightning strikes. It travels through the air, so there's just no way to block it. But you can try to keep the studio as centrally located in your dwelling as possible and that will really help. One way or the other, you want some surge protection at the power source, and this is the surge protection strip you want.

Good product
This unit has a metal case and feels solid. I have been using TrippLite suppressors for a long time, and never had a failure. I got this for my Uplift standing desk (which was not cheap).

But why
You can go to any discount store and buy a 6 to 8 outlet strip with a built in surge protector for about ten bucks. So why would you pay several times more than that for this one, especially for the models that only have 2 outlets. The difference is protection. Those bargain outlet strips offer only the most rudimentary level of protection, certainly nothing anywhere near as sophisticated as one of these. It all depends on how much you value your $2000 computer or $3000 TV. To me, a few bucks knowing I’m getting a real surge protector, not a toy, is worth every penny to protect my expensive and valuable equipment. REASON FOR PURCHASE I chose the two outlet style to protect my top of the line professional computer workstation and related home office peripherals. But I took a little different approach than the usual path of buying a mult-outlet power strip with built in surge protector. To me those are too restricting with regard to outlet location and orientation. Instead I got a heavy duty pro grade shop power strip that has no form of built in surge protection. It’s worth taking a moment to remind you that you should never plug one surge protector into another. It’s actually difficult to find power strips without surge protection, everyone thinks it’s a negative not to have it so the manufacturers throw in a basic component that literally costs them two cents so they can call it a surge protector. The one I use is three feet long and all metal with a heavy duty grounded cord and plug. I plug my workstation into one of the two outlets on the Tripp Lite Isobar for maximum safety and protection and I plug the pro grade power strip into the other, then plug my printers, storage drives, scanners, etc into the strip. That way they benefit from the Tripp Lite’s protection as well. WHATS IN IT While I am technical it is beyond my skills to explain each of the components that the Isobar has installed in it but trust me, it is way more than two cents worth of stuff. And beyond the electronics there is also the fact that the Isobar’s power outlets are sturdy commercial grade, not the cheap little plastic things in most power strips. That means the tightest and best power connection for your devices. The total cost for the 2-outlet Isobar and a heavy duty 6-outlet power strip is under sixty bucks and with a 36 inch length the strip allows me to spread the power cables across the entire back of my desk for maximum isolation and minimal physical interference of power cords getting in each other’s way. WORTH MENTIONING The product is almost all heavy duty metal with an industrial grade power cord and thankfully a right angle wall hugger plug. There are two standoff brackets on the back for wall mounting and a combination power and overload reset switch. And there is a safety feature to prevent unauthorized opening of the box. SUMMARY If you consider the price to be too much think again of how much you paid for your high end electronic components. To me it is worth every penny and I recommend it.

Tough, Advanced and Dependable
I've used these surge protectors for over 10 years in both businesses and at home. From the all metal case to the quality outlets and the extra levels of protection inside they are the best. I use them to protect all sorts of computer hardware, audio visual equipment, my sprinkler timer, water softener, and other electronics. In the attic I even have my furnace/AC 120 Volt connection (obviously not the 240 Volt feed to the compressor) plugged into one of these. If your furnace is relatively new you'll find it has an expense circuit board inside which is just as likely to die from surges and spikes as any other electronic device, and is expensive to replace. It is often the cumulative effect or surges and spikes, not just the one big event, that slowly destroys key parts of electronic devices. There may be hundreds of small devices on one circuit board. The loss of one of them usually means the loss of the whole board. Weakening of devices can lead to erratic or substandard operation even without total failure. I like the all metal case which protects the Isobar when it is in harm's way on the floor. Looking inside the protector, besides the normal spike protection which routes voltage spikes to ground, the are electrical components called inductors which block spikes and surges. This dual protection is preferred. High frequency interference is generated all around us. Dimmers for lights, hairdryers, computer power suppliers, and wall warts all generate inference which is radiated in the air and carried on house wiring. Every time the refrigerator turns on or off at your house, or at any one of your neighbors, or someone operates a hairdryer or turns on a light which uses a dimmer, it generates interference (and spikes), that is electrical noise, on the power lines. This interference has a variety of effects including reducing the quality of TV pictures. The Isobar device includes ferrite (a special type of metal) filters (wires wrapped around ferrite cores "donuts") which absorb high frequency interference. There are also other components which add to this filtering. There is a filter between each pair of outlets which helps isolate the outlets from each other so devices plugged into the protector are isolated from each other. If the devices plugged into the Isobar generate interference the Isobar helps to keep this electronic pollution out of your house wiring.

Tripp Lite ISOBAR8ULTRA Isobar 8 Outlet Heavy Duty Power Strip Surge Protector
Recommended by my stepsister and I'm very pleased with the heavy-duty power strip. I got the eight plug one but turns out I could have gotten away with a four plug. The outlet spacing is nice, the size is nice and it takes up much less space than the one it replaced. It seems to be of good quality and looks nice.

Ok for lower level surge protection
I bought this Tripp Lite surge protector for lower end gear like my Ambient Weather station display, my laptop charging cord, my cell phone and Apple Watch chargers. The issue with Tripp Lite is that they use MOV technology. That means Metal Oxide Varistors that are sacrificial components in the Tripp lite protectors. One good power spike and this Tripp Lite is toast. Higher end audiophile surge protectors like Brick Wall don’t use MOV’s and have a far longer life cycle. I have all my audio gear on Brick Wall surge protectors. The difference is price. This Tripp Lite is about $70 and a Brick Wall audio 8 outlet version is about $350. You can spend a LOT more on audio surge protectors and power conditioners, well into 4 figures for brands like AudioQuest. The Tripp Lite is inexpensive, very well made, has 8 outlets, the receptacles have a solid grip on outlet plugs, it includes and on/off switch and it has a generous, 12 foot heavy duty grounded cord. For the price, the Tripp Lite gear is ok for lower end applications. For my high end audio electronics, I use better quality surge protectors and power conditioners. But for the money and the build quality, it’s hard to beat Tripp Lite. Hope that helps!

90s aesthetic with a modern work ethic
It looks like something out of my mom's office building back in '96, but it works great. I haven't had any issues and I really appreciate the smaller details like the caps for the unused outlets and being able to mount it. Through the past, I have noticed that at home and work if there were too many outlets plugged into a surge protector, sometimes it would have a faint buzzing sound from the electricity, but I haven't noticed that happening (yet) with the Isobar. While it is also rather chonky and heavy, I have room to put all my plugs, even the thicker speaker plugs can fit IN BETWEEN two standard sized plugs, its spectacular. I got two to split all the devices for my office set up between and I have felt super secure with them. I think the only way I would upgrade from here would be an UPS, but that won't be for a while, so these will serve me well for a good amount of time.

Protect your investment
"Finally bit the bullet and got the Triple Eight Isobar 8-outlet surge protector. Holy crap, what a difference. My whole rig—PC, monitors, audio interface, even the coffee maker—feels bulletproof now. No more paranoia every thunderstorm. The build is stupid solid, plugs click in like they mean it, and that little LED strip tells you everything's good without babysitting. Yeah, it's not cheap—but if you're running high-end gear, this is straight-up insurance. Worth every penny. 10/10, no notes."

A High Performance, Efficient, Quality Surge Suppressor Product, Designed in the USA
I purchased this excellent surge suppressor with a metal case as replacement, but later as the main addition to my hi fi audio system; stereo. I also have a lamp plugged in, too. I have an earlier surge protector for my turntable. The wonderful thing about the Tripp Lite Isobar Surge Suppressor is the design, and adequate spacing of the electrical outlets that you can plug in for a hi fi audio, or AV system. Normally the spacing on most surge protectors is very close, and crowded; and the insertion of a plug is difficult. Not so with Tripp Lite; there is adequate spacing, and industrial, quality outlets. The delivery of this fine, efficient Tripp Lite Isobar 6 outlet surge suppressor was fast. Furthermore, although I think the metal housing could be thicker, Tripp Lite Isobar the 6 outlet model (ISOBAR6ULTRA) white coloured is built like a tank. It is, and looks solid! Besides the important indicator lights, you get several cover plugs that can cover an outlet if it is not in use; I have now one not in use, and is covered. I have had this Tripp Lite Isobar 6 Outlet for over two weeks, and there is no low buzzing noise that I have heard so far; that is one of the main reasons I took to write, and post a review on Amazon, Canadian web site! There are a couple owner, users of Tripp Lite surge suppressor who observed, actually heard, and complained about such low level noise. However, as I listened to music on my hi fi audio system, there does not seem to be any such noise, faint or otherwise that can be heard. I am not saying that there is absolutely no such low noise coming from any such Tripp Lite surge suppressor products, but I have not heard any such extraneous, audible noise. I think that the manufacturer should seriously consider, and examine any perceivable noise from any of its Tripp Lite surge suppressor products because there are persons who connect such surge suppressors to a hi fi, or AV system. In conclusion, I believe that this Tripp Lite Ultra Diagnostic Isobar 6 outlet surge suppressor is a very good choice for a hi fi stereo, or AV system.
