My daughter had an arboreal tarantula, so the 'tall' terrarium worked very well. But for a terrestial tarantula I'd go with a longer, shorter terrarium. **Q: How many inches tall is the glass in between the feet of the terrarium and the front vents?** A: I measured on the outside of terrarium. It measured 1.5" from bottom of glass to the vents on the trim below the opening door. It is built well, and it is designed for optimal viewing of the creatures or plants inside of it. It comes with a great removable piece of foam in the back that is painted to look natural. The foam makes it easy to stick plants or decorations into and it also has room behind it to run wires without disturbing the natural appearance of your terrarium. I am personally using this for an arboreal tarantula, and it is absolutely perfect. The huge door in the front makes it quite easy to access the inside, and the screen lid is easily removable as well. The terrarium has a waterproof base that will hold about 2 inches of substrate. I would say that this terrarium is suitable for all kinds of small reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. It is perfect for arboreal spiders like the Avicularia genus, although a larger enclosure may be required for an adult specimen. It would also be great for poison dart frogs, or anoles. I would not however use this item for any species that burrows, as it only allows for 2 inches of substrate. This is a great purchase if you really want to have a beautiful display.
