A rock pick like this is an essential tool for any hard-rock geologist. I carried and used the lighter version of this tool for many years as a professional geologist. The extra ounces make it a serious tool. My old ones wore out, and the ones with the shock-absorbing rubber handles just don't have the right feel; those rawhide disks have a special feel. This special edition item has extra engravings and looks sorta special. I have used it for its intended purpose — but lightly. It is solidly up to the job: fancy won't get in the way of utility. For me it's a like a retirement trophy, now I just have to find a way to hang it over the fireplace. P.S. The narrow end is fantastic for pulling up tent stakes.

Great present for a Geologist. A top quality tool with features you would expect from Estwing. Splitting rocks, digging into dirt...just the right weight and/or heft. Also doubles as a self defense weapon for rattlesnakes or mountain lions.

As a rockhound I truly appreciate the quality of this item. Have used it in some rough places and it always gets the job done without damaging the pick.

I am a geologist by education and profession, but I bought this for a trip to Utah so we can go rock hounding. The special anniversary pic is an absolutely gorgeous hammer. I wish they made a matching leather pouch.

I bought this expecting a beautiful rock hammer in a nice carrying sheath to use when gold prospecting but unbeknownst to me, it did NOT come with a sheath, even tho pictures are misleading to make you think otherwise. The appearance of the hammer itself is really nice and after I have a chance to use it, if there are any issues, I will update this review. I gave 4 out of 5 stars for it not coming with the sheath.

Estwing is the standard for rock hammers and rock/fossil hounding tools in general. Is this the one I want to crack and pry with all day? No. I prefer the rubber handle for better shock protection and grip. But, this thing looks amazing and will definitely drive a chisel and crack some rock. With proper care and correct usage this and all Estwing tools will last forever.

I bought this for use as a field geologist during field camp. This thing is amazing, I love the way it looks and feels. I purchased it and was hesitant on smacking rocks with it at first but once you break it in you don't fear so much any more. The leather handle makes use bearable and even after hitting some hard minerals and rocks with this, the strike face doesn't look too bad. The only downside I can think of is that the surface does get some rust after extended use. But otherwise a solid rock hammer.
