It can work really well on hikes as well because of the drawstring for changes of clothes. The vest does a great job of holding the two 500ml bottles, a homemade gel, some store bought gels, and a phone without any bulkiness. I do want to add that it can fit up to a 2L bladder, you can see we got an Osprey bladder in the pic. It will be very snug but works just fine, you can probably fit some other items in that space also. After use we clean it by hand with a wet paper towel and dish soap and then air dry, but some people use a gentle wash on the washer and say that works fine!
