Cat stays away now
I wanted to get something to keep my cat off of my son's hamster cage. She would repeatedly jump on top of it and scare my son's hamster This works so well, not only did she not jump on the cage anymore, she was so scared of the mat she didn't even come all the way in my son's room. Just the sight of it was enough to deter her. This was able to fully cover the top of rhe hamster cage. I used two shoe strings to tie both sides down. I was also able to cut it for whatever length I wanted it. I would recommend this, it is very effective for a good price.

Garden Protection
I have a garden bed that stray cats kept messing up. The smell was awful and worst of all, it was messing up my young plants I was growing from seeds. I placed this near the bed and have not had any problems since! Great protect it keeps them away.

Kinda works, but kinda a hassle...
It works, kinda, but it's not all daisies and daffodils. It's a big hassle to manage this, from the second you get it out of the package. It's really difficult to get it to lay flat at the beginning, since it has spines poking up, and I not wanting to press those down (since that's the whole point), trying to find something heavy enough to force it to lay flat, was a huge challenge. I ended up using some heavy tools, that were thin enough to fit between the spines. Then when my troublemaker tried to circumvent it he pulled it off onto the floor, and those tools really did a number on my hardwood floor. 😱😰 It isn't fit very well to countertop sizes, it only protects a strip, my cats continue to go around it. When the path around it is blocked, it does work, so far. I have seen them get on it a few times, but they obviously don't like it, and struggle to get off quickly. So far not a single one has learned to stay off the counters. I think they are getting up there less frequently, but I'm not being scientific to be certain. Their lack of cooperation is my fault, I've been permissive for far too long. I'm hoping this will work, I just still don't know. When I need to use the counter, it's a hassle again I need to fold it up a roll it up to get it out of the way, and try not to poke myself while I'm doing that. I've got one troublemaking cat that jumps from the counter to the top of the upper cabinets, he's the reason I bought these. He's already managed to rush by, while I'm trying to wrangle this mat, to make space for cooking or feeding them, and STILL get up on the top of the cabinets, multiple times. That was disappointing. When I take it off the cabinets for meal prep, I don't know what to do with it. I don't really have any spare flat surfaces in my kitchen to put it on. I end up just trying to fold it and put it on the side of the counter reducing my counter space. There's not much of a way to make this fit the front edge of the sink / counter in front of sink, nor the sink bowl. A thin strip on an uneven surface will just fall off. My troublemaker can jump from either the sink bowl, sink edge, counter edge at the sink, to the upper cabinets, so sadly, this isn't the right solution for that. So, this far, it's what they advertised, but it's effectiveness, and usability have more gaps that I expected.

Works
From the other reviews I was expecting it to not work. The cats who had encountered this have all jumped and ran. Super effective at keeping the cats off of wherever you put it. You get a lot for the price. I will say some of the spines can come bent but I haven’t seen any broken right out of the package.

Waste of time and money
UPDATE: I raised the rating because I found another use than what this is intended for. Though this is actually useless for keeping feral cats at bay, I found it useful to attach with clips to the back of my sling back patio chairs. Birds regularly like to perch on the back of them, which usually isn’t a big deal. Don’t make a mess because they are only on them for a few seconds. But I now have a flock of Common Grackles around who not only quickly clean out the feeders, they perch on everything…and leave far too many droppings. Everywhere. These keep them off the back of the patio chairs. It also seems to deter (for now) squirrels curious about my potted Meyer Lemon tree, also on the patio. (Raccoons, however, are another matter. Metal Chicken screening needed around the tree for them!) These are sturdy, yet flexible enough to bend without breaking. I am buying another roll. If you want to use this product outside and want it to lie flat, just use ground staples or tent stakes to keep it in place. 😉 PREVIOUS REVIEW: People here think because we’re in a warm climate it’s fine to let their cats roam outside at night. Absolute killing machines; their instinct is to swipe/grab anything that moves. I’m an animal lover; I would *never* allow my pet to roam loose at night and subject them to being injured/infected by raccoons, bobcats, coyotes, etc. Just plain stupid. I don’t want my yard to be a litter box/killing field! I tried every natural deterrent known to man to get them to stay away, to no avail. This product stinks. Does nothing…they walked right over it. Time to buy a trap.
