How large is the opening? I need extra room to pour excess water from the saucers back into the can.

The one I have has a 4”x4” opening. The handle design makes it easy accessible and you should have no problem pouring back any excess water

You could pour water in the top opening, but the handle would probably be in the way unless you poured it in on the side of the hole. I really like these watering cans because you can rotate the spout to pour over the plant or into the saucer. Hope this helos.
